End of school Hoodie given out too early

Woolfatthedoor · 15/05/2022 18:43

My son finishes primary school at the end of July. We have paid for special hoodies to be printed to mark this special landmark.
I was really upset to find that the PTA decided to give them out last Friday without consulting any other parents.
Obviously the kids are excited but I feel that they would have really marked the end of
Primary School if they had waited till the end of term. AIBU.

You should probably contact your local rag and get all the geets lined up with their best sad faces for the picture accompanying the article.

scruffanddodge · 15/05/2022 19:32

Oh dear OP, this is really petty.

allow them to wear them now and please don’t put them in it for high school. Best to get some wear out of them before they are forgotten at the back of the wardrobe.

really, you need a reality check.

😂😂
I love those "sad face" articles!

wow- mine got his at the easter hols...
they are permitted wear them only on pe days.
for rest of term.
i didnt even consider there might be a right\wrongity

SookieHouseboat · 15/05/2022 19:33

Oh my good gawd. Is this serious?

RollOnWinter · 15/05/2022 19:34

My GD finishes primary school in July. She's been wearing her "leavers" hoodie now for 3 months!

LittleOwl153 · 15/05/2022 19:36

End of SATS week seems like a good time to give them out to me. The problem with leaving them to the end of the year is that they don't get alot of use as these kids are still growing. My dds year didn't get them till year end and whilst many wore theirs for the first none uniform day in yr7 I haven't seen alot since. My own dds (now yr8) went to guide camp this year but I suspect many of her classmates no longer fit as they do seem to grow in yr 7 quite dramatically - its a bit like the reception to yr 1 growth spurt! So I'd be encouraging as much wear as possible this term!

SallyWD · 15/05/2022 19:36

My daughter's class got them a few weeks ago. MUCH better than givingbthem out at the end of term. They've been allowed to wear them at school for PE and during SATS week. If they got them at the end of July it would generally be too warm to wear them AND they won't want to wear a primary school hoody once they're at secondary school!! This way they actually get some use out of them.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 15/05/2022 19:38

Dc1(12) got hers after Whitsun week last year. Dc2(10) got his after Feb half term this year. He's already worn it far more than dc1 because it was so warm by the time she got hers. I think the earlier the better when you've spent upwards of £20 (in most cases).

Also, fwiw, dc1's has been in her keepsake box since July as she had no interest in wearing it again once the year was finished.

DuchessofAnkh22 · 15/05/2022 19:44

Ours got them around now to wear them on their y6 trip and at school....

BellePeppa · 15/05/2022 19:45

I didn’t think we made such a fuss in this country about the end of primary, we’re not Americans giving Elementary graduations🙄 After the leavers assembly my son and I couldn’t get out the school quick enough although we had to navigate crying parents 😬

elfycat · 15/05/2022 19:45

DD2 got hers last week, 2 weeks after everyone else because I missed the email and had to order it late and get it myself. I was in soooooo much trouble. They're all wearing them instead of coats on a non-raining day. She has been wearing it all weekend.

I imagine that in September she won't touch it again as she'll be a secondary school pupil and won't want to be associated with primary.

Sorry, but YABU.

BetsyBigNose · 15/05/2022 19:49

At my DDs' High School, Year 11 students receive their leavers hoodies in September, then most wear them all year in place of coats. I think it's great to give them out earlier as the kids will get far more use out of them. My DDs got their Primary School leavers hoodies at the end of the summer term, when they were leaving and I'm pretty sure each of them only wore them on a handful of occasions, which is shame as they were bloody expensive!

axolotlfloof · 15/05/2022 19:51

DS got his when the y6s returned to school after lockdown 1.
He spilt curry down it the first evening, didn't tell me immediately and I was unable to get the stain out.
I recommend choosing a dark coloured hoodie.
They won't wear them again come September so get as much wear out of them as possible.

Bwix · 15/05/2022 19:52

Yabu! They don’t wear them after the end of term lol

KittenKong · 15/05/2022 19:53

DS got his last week. He is merrily wearing it. What’s the problem?

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 15/05/2022 19:54

Oh, you daft apeth OP.

They were given the hoodies on Friday to mark the end of SATs. It will now be the height of cool to wear the hoodies for the rest of the summer term, even on the hottest of days.

Thank goodness you posted here rather than saying anything in real life

ChesterDrawsLouLou · 15/05/2022 19:56

Ahhh, so you're one of those types who criticize the PTA rather than get involved yourself.

As someone who's organised hoodies for my DCs class (the only fucker who offered), it's a completely thankless task. I wanted them off my hands asap and the kids loved them and to quote a PP, it was the height of cool for them.

Be grateful to the poor PTA member who organised it, let the kids enjoy them and chill the feck out.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/05/2022 19:56

I'd advocate having them in time for our residential and having them for PE days as has been mentioned upthread. But not worn in place of their uniform.

One leavers hoodie to be worn as their school jumper could get a bit....fragrant.... on some pupils if they weren't put in the wash regularly due to being the only one they have. And some y6 get VERY fragrant!

cafedesreves · 15/05/2022 19:57

🤔 i can't see myself being upset by this!

rnsaslkih · 15/05/2022 19:58

Surely it's so they can get some wear out of it? My ds grew out of his before it was even issued so it ended up binned. Total waste.

Changingmynameyetagain · 15/05/2022 19:59

Mine were given theirs for PGL which their school does in October of yr6, so they’ve had nearly all of year 6 to get use of the hoodies.
The end of term is far too late, I have 1 in year 10 and 1 in year 8 and they’ve never worn them since they left primary school.
DS2 is in year 6 and he wears his to school on PE days.

Testina · 15/05/2022 19:59

Don’t be silly!
Our Y6 get them in September! They bloody love it, swanning around all high and mighty in Y6-only uniform 🤣
It’s fab cos parents save the cost of a jumper, and get lots of wear for their money from the hoodie.
Every child wears them at our school (PTA subtly cover cost of those who can’t afford them). At my friend’s school, you’re lucky to get them worn on colder summer days until Y7, then they’re childish and social death.

Chihuahuapower · 15/05/2022 20:04

They probably didn't tell you because it was to be a surprise for the kids and telling all the parents would have almost certainly ended in the kids finding out

You ordered a hoody, the child has a hoody. I don't think the PTA (who have kindly gone to the effort of arranging it) needed to consult over dates.

GeorgesMarvelousCalpol · 15/05/2022 20:05

cptartapp · 15/05/2022 18:44

They're given out early so the leavers can wear them for their last few weeks. Isn't that the point, to make them feel bonded and special. Mine never wore them after they'd left.
It's lovely to see them.
YABU.

That would be my thoughts.
