End of school Hoodie given out too early

My son finishes primary school at the end of July. We have paid for special hoodies to be printed to mark this special landmark.
I was really upset to find that the PTA decided to give them out last Friday without consulting any other parents.
Obviously the kids are excited but I feel that they would have really marked the end of
Primary School if they had waited till the end of term. AIBU.

Going back a few years, but both my two had theirs early and were allowed to wear them to school as part of uniform. Got lots of use out of them and the kids liked being part of the little team wearing them together.

ilovemyboys3 · 15/05/2022 19:06

It makes sense for the children to be able to have them for the last term and wear them as uniform surely?

ilovesooty · 15/05/2022 19:12

Join the PTA and put some time and graft in if you think your views are so important. What a fuss about nothing.

SerialNameChanger2114 · 15/05/2022 19:13

Sorry, YABU, they’ve just finished SATS. It’s the perfect time to hand them out so they get some use.

easyday · 15/05/2022 19:15

Now is much better! My daughter got hers end of GCSEs hoodie in June - worn a couple times that's it. She picked the colours a few months before and would have had a lot more wear if given out earlier.

Wafflesnsniffles · 15/05/2022 19:15

At least this way they will get some use out of them. I cant imagine many will want to wear a "Yay Ive finished at primary school" hoodie once they are at secondary school. Plus if they are printed with their names they are of no use to anyone except one child. Even with just the schools name on......... who is going to want them? Zero waste fail.

FrecklesMalone · 15/05/2022 19:17

I want your life if this is something you have time and energy to worry about.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 15/05/2022 19:17

Our year 6 wear them as soon as they return from October half term. They get given out in assembly along with a speech from the head teacher about the privileges and expectations of being in year 6.
Means they get some wear out of them.

Herbyhippo · 15/05/2022 19:17

I think they should get them on day 1 of year 6. They can then wear them all year. They will never be worn again after they start year 7. The end of year 6 could then be celebrated by them signing one another’s hoodies.

Hellocatshome · 15/05/2022 19:18

All the schools round here give them out in time for the last term if not before so kids can actually wear them to school and feel a bit special for a bit. Honestly after a few weeks into the summer holidays they won't get worn much or at all.

Pixie2015 · 15/05/2022 19:18

Wish DS had his early worn once and now just hanging in wardrobe

mnnewbie111 · 15/05/2022 19:18

End of SATs for most round here I think so they get used for the post exam treats etc. It's nice.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/05/2022 19:21

Our primary school leavers wear them for the last few weeks of school. The last two weeks of term are transition weeks to high school, in normal uniform. The leaders hoodies at school are a ceremonial rite of passage.

Runkle · 15/05/2022 19:21

Is this all you have to concern yourself with?!

Dementedswan · 15/05/2022 19:24

End of year hoodie isn't done at our school, the kids get a group photo, special treats, a personalised cup with class photo and they all do the old fashioned signing of shirts. Which is hung up in wardrobe and forgotten about. My child left y6 last year and is still close friends with his primary group

scrivette · 15/05/2022 19:24

Ours have had them for a few months so they can wear them on own clothes days and to their residential trip.

RampantIvy · 15/05/2022 19:25

Why? Confused
At least they will get some wear out of them if they are given out now. It seems a very sensible thing to do.

When DD finished her year 11, she got her hoodie at the end of term and has never, ever worn it. Such a waste of money.

ChessieFL · 15/05/2022 19:26

Same here, ours got them around now too so they could wear them for the last few weeks of term. DD still wears hers loads now though (she’s year 7) so it’s getting plenty of wear.

LondonQueen · 15/05/2022 19:26

We handed ours our months ago... They might as well enjoy them.

This has got to be the pettiest complaint I've ever seen on here!

...and that's saying something!

Lifeisaminestrone · 15/05/2022 19:29

I see kids round here wearing them all the time!
I still wear and have my sixth form one from the 2000s!
