3 adults plus DS at WE.Had reasonable amount for us ,and the week ahead .An old chap smiled behind me ,I smiled back .He then commented re amount saying " You dont have to buy the whole shop you know ,leave something for the rest of us!" I muttered a comment and felt annoyed and embarrassed .Had just general meals for Dinners, plus Bread ,sandwich fillings etc plus Loo rolls ,washing liquid and so on .No Alcohol or huge joints of Beef!

Rudeness!

AnnaSW1 · 15/05/2022 16:33

It was hardly a rude comment

gumballbarry · 15/05/2022 16:36

I think this all depends on how the comment was delivered. Since you're asking whether it was rude I would give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he had good intentions.

Wouldyabeguilty · 15/05/2022 16:39

Jesus wept, it was small talk, just making a joke. Cop on.

Amberheart · 15/05/2022 16:44

Years ago I was buying groceries for my family. Cart was overflowing. A man smiled at me and said “It looks like you are buying for a logging camp”. We both laughed. I knew he was only joking.

You are pretty rude yourself you know. Of course you don't need my permission and nor do I need yours.
At least I'm pleasant to possibly lonely old people in supermarkets.

Rude? You call that rude? Some people really need to look outside their bubbles.

Your words, back at you.

dottiedodah · 15/05/2022 16:56

MistyFuckinQuigley I can assure you we are not the same person! WE simply stands for Weekend .This is Sainsburys .Lemongreentea has been one of the few people to get my point. Thanking her for her support .

This thread is mad.

I'm just wondering who's going to get the last word in. It's between the op, lemongreentea and Johnnysgirl my money is on lemongreentea although I'm wondering if the op and lemongreentea are the same poster 🤔

Also, what does WE stand for? It's obviously a supermarket, which one? Oh is it waitrose? YES IT MATTERS slightly over invested in the thread

It won't be me as I stopped replying to that poster at 14 31. She can have the prize of having the last word as it seems important to her.

lemongreentea · 15/05/2022 17:00

The man told a complete stranger.

" You dont have to buy the whole shop you know ,leave something for the rest of us!"

Which part of his sentence is a 'joke'.

dottiedodah · 15/05/2022 17:00

Going off now .For those who still dont get it even though I have said so many times .He started off jokey then seemed sarky .As I earlier stated ,just expected a few "me toos" and leave it at that .Instead according to some people seem to have had a sense of humour bypass as I dont like having my shopping apprasied in a rude manner!

zingally · 15/05/2022 17:02

Just an old guy making a joke! Lighten up!

dottiedodah · 15/05/2022 17:03

Lemongreentea Thank you for understanding my point .Many seem to have no idea what I mean somehow! The tone was sarcastic and uncalled for .I like talking to people regardless of age who dont make value judgements! Thank you once again for your support .Off to do Supper now.

YANBU OP. The man was rude.

Too many people here telling you to lighten up and take a joke but can't seem to lighten up themselves. The irony.

WakeWaterWalk · 15/05/2022 17:05

Lemongreentea you take things very literally.

Mydogmylife · 15/05/2022 17:05

Ye gods ! I hope you bought a nice strong grip in that huge load of shopping g

I'm leaving this thread too OP.

Lets see if the rest will continue to argue about how you should lighten up without you here.

Pathetic people picking on one person and thinking they are so clever.

Crossed posted with you and interested to know.

Okay maybe I do, please can you tell me what he meant by it then and which part of it is a joke. Thanks

I wouldn't like people making a comment on my basket.
Plus I know many many who also wouldn't.people can be very sensitive about their grocery contents.and having seen the fallout of this kind of comment I don't care if that makes them soft or easily offended.its a sticking point for some people.whg isn't that ok.
Why can't people be sensitive to some things or hit harder by stuff others might not think on.cpuld we not have compassion for them and heaven forbid support them up and help them see it's ok and there's no need to let their thoughts run away with them.

@MistyFuckingQuigley "wet lettuce"
Someone spoke to someone while out shopping. Funny.

You really can't see it? And you've decreed that anyone voting YABU is "insane".
You appear to have quite severe comprehension issues.

VelociraptortheClown · 15/05/2022 18:06

It was a joke. You could have replied 'Don't worry, the alcohol aisle is still well stocked'
