Part 3 AIBU to wonder why so many people assume Johnny Depp is the good guy and Amber Heard is the villain

Following on from parts 1 and 2
Trial has gone 'dark' this week as the Judge is at a conference so it's going to be quiet on that front and I expect this thread will run slower than the previous two, however, there is still plenty of material and evidence from the last three weeks that we can 'cross examine'.

Any and all opinions welcome.

@Miscfeminista you were cut off! Do you agree or disagree with me 😂

Oh no I meant I agree 😅

@Legrandsophie I read that article when I was trying to find some more detail - it doesn't say anything more than KJ was horrified AH had used her story.

I read her testimony love streamed by court reporters on the day. I can’t find the full transcript but she wasn’t allowed to finish what she was saying as Sacha Wass (the QC for The Sun) cut her off and quickly ended her questioning. She wasn’t allowed to finish what she was say but she was clear at the beginning of her answer that Amber had borrow very recognisable elements of the story that she had shared with both Heard and Depp. I’ll try to find it in the trial transcript.

ENoeuf · 16/05/2022 20:39

@Legrandsophie thank you. I'm just wondering what they are all huddling up about now

ENoeuf · 16/05/2022 20:40

Do you think he thinks he can win ? its so much money and lawyers time.

StormzyinaTCup · 16/05/2022 20:46

@ENoeuf I haven't read your link (yet) but if I was a betting person I think the jury will find in favour of neither and no one will get awarded anything.

I think whoever wins damages will be nowhere near what they are asking for especially for Depp as she hasn’t got that sort of money anyway. Depp is winning in the area of the public (at the moment) which is what he wants and he maybe able to earn big money to cover any hits from the trial. Amber needs to win some compensation as unless she has some more evidence her career is over. Especially as she has apparently fallen out with Disney, that might follow her to other corporations.

Miscfeminista · 16/05/2022 20:55

Oh my god. The lawyer doing cross being a woman makes this all the more ridicilous. I cannot look at that lawyer and think she is serious. This is terribly sad to watch

Legrandsophie · 16/05/2022 20:57

@ENoeuf

This article for The Standard has quotes by Kate James from the trial in which she is clear that Amber had used parts of her story as her own.

Don’t you think women can be shot got attorneys? That’s a touch misogynistic.

Legrandsophie · 16/05/2022 20:58

‘Shit hot’ damn auto correct!

Miscfeminista · 16/05/2022 21:06

@Legrandsophie not sure what you mean but I was reffering to fact that majority of DV victims are women and she is standing there, questioning AH as if she's full of it, as if it happens every day that women lie about DV and are"the abusers". I know she couldn't just quit but to go with these emotional tactics"You know why JD won't look you in the eyes"feels way more personal than it should and given I think JD is the DEAD OBVIOUS abuser this looks really ridicilous. I'm just looking it from my perspective, I haven't really watched trials before

ENoeuf · 16/05/2022 21:12

@Legrandsophie thank you, I'll read it. I've had to pause it hoping it starts from where I left off.

I think both their careers are pretty much over.

I don't think she got with him to further her career although there's no doubt it probably did. When I look at the evidence I genuinely think she loved him and vice versa.

Whilst I do think Heard has let down people who have, and will be in the future victims of domestic abuse, I actually think that the reactions on social media, comments about her clothing, sexual partners, people saying he's a southern gentlemen when he's clearly not always that and all the rest has now gone way beyond the damage that Heard has done for victims. I knew about the case before all this, thought they were probably both vile people but didn't think much else of it. It's all the social media or inaccurate tik toks I.e where its suggested shes stating lines out of films that has got to me. Its well beyond people having an opinion. There's one person I saw insisting that Heard could not have been assaulted with a vodka bottle as due to the size and shape of a bottle there is no way she would not have required hospitalisation. When I asked if they actually knew the size, shape, make of bottle or what end was allegedly used they confirmed they did not.

The more I look at this, the more I think that they both need help. I'm sick of Heard being made out to be the devil when it's clear she's not, she tried to help him and she did love him. She's done wrong, he's done wrong. Now they are both doing wrong to other victims of abuse through the media.

She’s “let down” victims? How? For talking publicly about the abuse she suffered and yet failing to be the IDEAL image of a victim of abuse? Because of course if a woman is to share her experience of abuse she better damn well be perfect.

ENoeuf · 16/05/2022 21:23

Gosh this is a confrontational start from the cross lawyer. Wow.

ENoeuf · 16/05/2022 21:26

Well AH is very inconsistent. But Depp does sound like an old lush. 'He's kept that promise hasn't he?' Etc - it's all very dramatic.

AdamRyan · 16/05/2022 21:28

stolen charity money
I don't think not making a donation of your own money can be counted as stealing

And she literally just said she had to stop donating to cover the costs of the legal actions

It's her divorce settlement. Up to her what she does with it

ENoeuf · 16/05/2022 21:29

I'm at the start of this and the female lawyer is sounding quite stressy. Although having a man would not be a good optic. So it's tricky.

she made a promise to donate the £7 split between two charities- she made a public pledge to these charities. Depp offered to give the money directly to those charities and she insisted that it should be given to her first. And then it was never passed on to the charities.

Her lawyers tried to claim in court that she thought JD was going to pay the £3.5 million extra himself and that she could keep the £7. And she got Musk to pay £500,000 on her behalf.

Yet somehow she has managed to pay for a surrogate and a winery. Yes, obviously it is the trial that has stopped her from paying up.

Cross examination lawyers aren't supposed to be nice. I think she's doing a good job so far

I don't think she sounds stressed. She sounds as if she's pulling apart the testimony by AH. She's just not doing it nicely.

Miscfeminista · 16/05/2022 21:46

@Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious no need to be"nice"but the condenscending tones shouldn't belong to court, it feels unprofessional. I imagined lawyers would be(almost)impartial people that defend their clients on basis of evidence. This sounded more like lawyer was Depp's friends making AH admit to doing something. Then again as I said I'm not in the field, I guess hitting under belt and distasteful comments are a-ok from lawyers(male or female). This particular case is specific because until the jury or court or whatever makes the verdict they can't call either the abuser and the lawyer is talking as if she is 100% sure a powerful wealthy man is a victim. If she wasn't a woman that could be in the same situation tomorrow, it wouldn't be less ridicilous approach IMO

ENoeuf · 16/05/2022 21:47

Fair enough, it's early. She stumbled her words a few times and her voice is a bit stressed sounding. Probably gets into it. They've just stopped again about a photo AH says exists but hasn't produced.
One of them at least is a psychopath !

The thing is with these photos, AH is saying things like 'it's not my job', that doesn't work in her favour. If the photos are there, there's no reason her team wouldn't use them. Surely you'd want as much evidence on your side?! I would for sure.

Well of course she is, she's his lawyer. She can't stand up there and doubt him. She has to come across as completely confident he is the victim. His whole legal team does, the same for AH legal team. Even if they may not believe it wholeheartedly, they must portray they do in court.
