To think male violence will never end?

I was reading the news about 14 year old boy raping and killing a 10 year old girl and I just became so tired.
So tired of endless violence boys and men do to girls and women.
And how they don’t care, they seem to think it’s funny or get angry at any woman who try and speak about it.

To draw a parallel, if someone opened a similar thread and substituted the word men for blacks, gays, lesbians or any other protected characteristic, its be closed down and they'd be probably looking at a forum ban....

It'd be much more constructive to ask why male violence predominates, why it doesn't seem to be changing, what factors in society / genetics / environment are contributing and what routes could influence or change things.

@YouAreNotBatman this thread shows exactly why things haven't changed in any significant way despite all the lip service laws,speeches and what not.

I'm dealing in facts here, whereas you are merely orchestrating some kind of feeble MRA narrative that, sadly, disadvantages male victims of violence in just the same way that women experience.

In my 52 years, I have been separately raped, sexually assaulted, harassed, stalked, beaten and abused. By several different men, from the age of 8 upwards.

In those 52 years I have not experienced any violence or abuse from women.

I’m a bit disappointed. This thread has descended into an argument about which sex is most violent. Why? It’s clear by any measure and at all times, the male sex is the most violent. What a pointless waste of space.

I was hoping we could discuss the question the OP raised as to whether violence will ever end? A few have said it will never end. I think it will one day as it’s been gradually decreasing over human history. If the trend continues, we will solve the violence problem.

We could be having a great discussion about the causes of violence and how violence begets more violence. But no, it’s just post after post of not all men, women and children are violent too, how dare you say that it’s men that are the problem and basically just posts on who is most to blame for violence.

I think that’s quite saddening. Imagine if we had addressed climate change the same way and just got bogged down in whos to blame, whose the worst polluter…we’d never have made any progress on green energy, technology or cleaning up emissions. Hell, we’d never have invented recycling!

For example, there are studies linking head injuries to violent behaviour. Studies also show that abused children (having had violence done to them) are at risk of growing up to be violent adults. Inequality, poverty, racism- structural violence increases likelihood of civil unrest levels of outbreaks of violence. Prison makes nonviolent offenders violent and violent offenders even more violent. We know so many of the causes of violence, so why aren’t we discussing these and thinking about what activism we should support that will keep that downward trend in human violence going?

I suggest you keep those glasses, I think you need them. 😃

Completely agree with this. Just goes to show the double standards on this site.

The fact is, violence will never stop. Full stop. The human race is the only animal that is violent for the sake of it.

If this thread was about violence from women you'd have people saying ah but men are MORE violent. If it was saying a specific race was violent, it would've been zapped by now. But because it's aimed just at men, here it stands. Shocker.

No it’s not - whales and dolphins are violent for fun. So are cats, dogs probably too.

I think, to answer the OP’s question, the only way male violence will stop is if toxic masculinity is squashed out. And the biggest perpetrators of toxic masculinity are other men.

You need to intervene at an early age to stop the anti-social behaviour from ages 2 upwards. Once a child gets above an age of 4, any violent tendencies will stay with them. We should have a better schooling system to cope with this.

With young women writing utter bulge like this, why do we even bother? Honestly. I just can’t.

My DF was virtually made homeless, financially abused for 10 years and then threatened by his late wife's daughters when he refused to leave the marital home. Women can be pieces of shit too.

Thats not quite true. Many species, from alligators to Guinea pigs will eat their own young. Many male mammals taking over a harem of female mammals will kill all infants they may already have as theyre not his offspring. Cats torture mice to death for fun. Big cats (tigers, leopards, lions) torture humans and other prey to death for fun. Several species of shark attack and bite out of mere curiosity. Dogs will attack cats, squirrels, foxes, and packs of wolves will hunt and kill for fun.

Nature is full of violence.

How ironic. The OP in her op says how men get angry about women speaking out against male violence against women. Which is then followed by four pages of men getting angry about women speaking out against male violence against women.

But yup, no problems at all with male attitudes to women. Not. And yes, I see you, the men posting and pretending to be women to validate your argument.

Why is it so hard for men to understand that women on a woman centred message board will speak about issues affecting women? And that will include a large proportion of problems with men.

Yes, as a society we are progressing in some areas & developing deeper psychiatric & biological understanding of what causes & drives violence.
But at root - no, we will never be completely free of it.
Homo sapiens is a violent species, some members of which absolutely revel in power, dominance, & inflicting deliberate pain.

Taking my head out of the domestic sphere for the moment - look at the pain humanity has inflicted on itself via territorial & religious wars, political & financial gains, & even petty street arguments. No other species seems to 'get off' on sadism quite like humans do, & despite the better understanding referenced above, the prevalence of readily available porn, video games based on win-at-all-costs competition & violence glorification, increasing objectification of bodies & people as objects to be consumed/lusted after/derided/obtained/ as if they were commodities, we'regoing backwards as fast as forwards right now.

The Romans flocked to stadia to watch victims being tortured by gladiators & lions. We Brits flocked to public hangings as entertainment. It might be comfortable to imagine we have outgrown that, but we haven't - we just have Reality TV & hideously violent & degrading porn channels now. Oh! - & Patel wants to bring back hanging, so there's that to look forward to ...
