To choose an Irish name for their dog... in light of Britain's history with Ireland.

YABU- get over it, it's a dog
YANBU- it is tone deaf

There really is nothing you can do these days without someone finding offence in it. It's all so tedious 🙄

ShirleyPhallus · 02/05/2022 19:16

This is going to be Meghan Markle’s fault isn’t it?

Teder · 02/05/2022 19:17

I’m getting sooooooo many dog ads. 😂

Dundonian · 02/05/2022 19:17

Bonbon21 · 02/05/2022 19:17

Have you seen the news recently?
The state of the world right now?
And this... THIS... is what you worry about...

Get a grip!

JaneJeffer · 02/05/2022 19:18

Give over. Jesus people will start any shite thread to try to wind Irish posters up.

Let’s wait for the racists claiming I am Not a racist (you are) commenting on it being a black dog

or claiming William can’t be the unnamed racist as he has a black dog

JinglingHellsBells · 02/05/2022 19:20

Well at least they didn't call it Napoleon.

YABR

CounsellorTroi · 02/05/2022 19:20

I’m sure the entire population of Ireland is outraged about this.

greasyshoes · 02/05/2022 19:20

I'm reassured to see that most people think this person is unreasonable.

These responses 😁 ah, good ole Mumsnet 😂

Ahh I see.

another internet lesson for DS. Good one op.

jcyclops · 02/05/2022 19:25

Orla in gaelic means "Vomit" - a very strange name for the royal pet. Órla (with the fada) is the girls name. I can't find it stated anywhere whether the pet is a dog or a bitch, so maybe it is a dog and named after renowned Danish statesman Orla Lehmann. If the name is offensive they could always change it to "Spud".

JudgeJ · 02/05/2022 19:25

Organictangerine · 02/05/2022 18:43

Yep, people love to feel like a victim

Better still, there's a kind of person who loves being offended on behalf of others who are usually too intelligent to care less.

TyrannosaurusRegina · 02/05/2022 19:26

I'm actually cringing for you, OP.

TheKeatingFive · 02/05/2022 19:27

I'm Irish and no fan of the Cambridge's and I think you're being ridiculous

Luckyelephant1 · 02/05/2022 19:27

Nutellatea · 02/05/2022 19:11

These responses 😁 ah, good ole Mumsnet 😂

Funny, that's exactly what I thought when I read your OP.

TheKeatingFive · 02/05/2022 19:28

I will admit there is a tiny part of me that is only dying to hear of Sammy Wilsons (DUP) response.

😂

They have two of their kids French names. Also tone deaf given England's history with France?

In view of France's aggression towards England I don't approve of their use of French names, what's wrong with good old Anglo-Saxon?

XingMing · 02/05/2022 19:30

It's a DOG name. You are being totally daft.

tkwal · 02/05/2022 19:33

They called the dog Orla, not Orlaith (Irish spelling)
