To think Will & Kate calling their dog Orla is insensitive at best

To choose an Irish name for their dog... in light of Britain's history with Ireland.

YABU- get over it, it's a dog
YANBU- it is tone deaf

Aren’t they also patrons or some such of the Irish Guards?

googleyourheartout · 02/05/2022 19:00

I love posh (to me) English names for dogs i.e Humphrey, Stanley, Winston. I'm Irish so maybe I shouldn't.

I will admit there is a tiny part of me that is only dying to hear of Sammy Wilsons (DUP) response.

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 02/05/2022 19:01

The dog was a present from her Brother and is a pedigree and was probably registered under the name before they had her .

SinaraSmith · 02/05/2022 19:02

Please don’t be offended on our behalf. You look ridiculous.

Nametoname · 02/05/2022 19:02

God above …. really?

Bordersanddragons · 02/05/2022 19:02

Say Órla wrong and it means vomit. I’m Irish by descent and wanted to call DD Órla but in the UK with no fada? Er… no.

Doris86 · 02/05/2022 19:03

Hahahahahaha.

Nice try, but clearly a wind up thread.

MintyChops · 02/05/2022 18:41

I’m Irish, you are being ridiculous. 🙄

I'm also Irish, and I agree

Libertaire · 02/05/2022 19:03

Utterly batshit, and I say that as someone with Irish Catholic parents. 🙄

QueenofLouisiana · 02/05/2022 19:03

Gosh, my (Irish) dog will be having an identity crisis as he has a Scottish name. Clearly I should have thought harder.

However, I asked for his opinion about an English couple calling their dog Orla and he appears unconcerned. So I think we can stand down the barricades.

SoupDragon · 02/05/2022 19:04

WTF?

😂😂

Hallyup89 · 02/05/2022 19:04

🙄

BreakorMake · 02/05/2022 19:05

They might have called it Gobnait. Irish on here will get it via Fr. Jack on Father Ted. 🇮🇪

This. Laughed at this and other times I have read Orla on here instead of Órla. Vomit inducing indeed 🤮

Branleuse · 02/05/2022 19:08

Its practically treason. Whatever Will she force Harry to do next?? Our Lady Di wod be turning in her grave!

tillytoodles1 · 02/05/2022 19:08

I met a lady walking a cockapoo and asked his name, Ganja she replied. Oh that's unusual I said ,only to be told her grandson named him. I doubt she had any idea what it meant as she walked round the park.

TargusEasting · 02/05/2022 19:08

YANBU for criticising the name but YABU for calling it a dog. It might identify as a cat or a ferret or something.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 02/05/2022 19:09

Flipping heck. They are tone deaf in many case but their dog’s name is stretching it somewhat

LoveLarry · 02/05/2022 19:10

Fucking he'll

Nutellatea · 02/05/2022 19:11

These responses 😁 ah, good ole Mumsnet 😂

BiscuitLover3678 · 02/05/2022 19:15

TokyoTen · 02/05/2022 19:15
