To think Will & Kate calling their dog Orla is insensitive at best

To choose an Irish name for their dog... in light of Britain's history with Ireland.

YABU- get over it, it's a dog
YANBU- it is tone deaf

you have enough time to give head space to people you’ve never met/never likely to meet have named their dog ?
fucking hell , that’s sad
really

sad
& not in a funny way

Muckymaisonette · 02/05/2022 20:01

Fun fact
Orla in Hebrew means ‘foreskin’

Hopefully the dog is named after an Irish princess than male anatomy!

Everyday's a school day Grin

In reality hee brother who had Semh needs and an excess of dogs probably needs to rehome one

Eh?

SnowRoses · 02/05/2022 18:39

Christ 🙈

Now that would be an inappropriate name!

PrincessPaws · 02/05/2022 20:08

Oh ffs, some people really stretch to be offended these days

loveisanopensore · 02/05/2022 20:09

I'd understand it for a golden retriever not a brown dog.

It's a different spelling of my name and I don't care.

diamondpony80 · 02/05/2022 20:09

I'm Irish and the thought never even crossed my mind!

Our dogs all have names that could probably be associated with someone or something. We chose the names because we liked them, and for no other reason.

This post is just trying to make something out of nothing.

veronicagoldberg · 02/05/2022 20:03

Eh?

Her brother has social and emotional health needs.
He has a large number of dogs- really too many for 1 person

What is the eh about?

DoctorManhattan · 02/05/2022 20:25

Irish here also, couldn’t give two fcuks if they called the dog Saint Patrick never mind Orla. There are more important things going on in the world surely.

chisanunian · 02/05/2022 20:26

You'd love my cat's name then.

Slavetomytoddlers · 02/05/2022 20:27

I’m Irish and not offended.

That said, my dog is big and daft and I’ve called her a name that I associate with big daft English women so I’d be a hypocrite if I judged them.

TheFoldOx · 02/05/2022 20:28

Just wait until you find out what the MP Alan Clark called his three Rottweilers, @Nutellatea...

loveisanopensore · 02/05/2022 20:29

Maybe they just really love Derry Girls?

saleorbouy · 02/05/2022 20:34

You're actually having a laugh..... you're offended for an old historical reason of a dogs name.
You need to give your head a good wobble.

If you know , you know 🤣

woodenwindchimes · 02/05/2022 20:34

You are being so silly.

acatcalledjohn · 02/05/2022 20:35

Jesus, Mary & Joseph and the wee donkey.

And I thought Isis from Downton Abbey being renamed was batshit crazy.

SnottyLottie · 02/05/2022 20:36

Erm…maybe don’t Google the Sussex’s dog’s name if that’s how you feel about the Cambridge’s dog’s name…

namnamnam22 · 02/05/2022 20:37

My daughter has an Irish name and my father in law was in the British army, should he be offended too? 🤦🏻‍♀️

OMG12 · 02/05/2022 20:40

Dear Christ!

TittleTattleOh · 02/05/2022 20:41

YABU, it’s a lovely name for a lovely looking dog.

Clarinet1 · 02/05/2022 20:47

My Irish great grandmother was called Kate - should I be offended that a British duchess is now using the name?

MoiraQueen · 02/05/2022 20:47

The dog was gifted to Princess Charlotte and the name means golden princess. I assume the dog came already named.

SquirrelG · 02/05/2022 20:48

Oh do get over yourself! What a ridiculous comment.

AnastasiaRomanov · 02/05/2022 20:53

I had a dog called Orla. You’re being ridiculous.
