Would it be offensive & rude to ask a family member to stop sending me pics of their dc?

I just want to check if I'm being rude here. I want to ask (nicely) a family member not to send me pics of their kids. I'm not interested in a 100 pics of what Johnny ate for breakfast, Johnny getting the bus, Johnny eating his ice cream, Johnny at soft play, Johnny having his afternoon nap etc. You get the idea. I told a friend I want to stop the pics and she said there's nothing I can say that won't cause offence. What d'you think? Aibu? How can I handle this better?

You’re going to cause offence, yeah. It’s up to you to decide if the stream of pictures is irritating enough to make causing offence worth it.

HeadToToesNo · 01/05/2022 20:34

How are they sending them? If its WhatsApp you could mute the conversation but periodically throw in a 'that's nice'.

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/05/2022 20:34

Are they sending them to you specifically or as part of their SM feed?

Mangogogogo · 01/05/2022 20:34

As pp said, it is absolutely going to cause upset of offence. As much as I would feel the same way as you I wouldn’t mention it but I certainly wouldn’t be replying to every single one

BeautifulDragon · 01/05/2022 20:35

Do you respond to/ acknowledge the pictures? I'll stop doing that first.

Patienceisntvirtuous · 01/05/2022 20:35

Yes you'd upset them I think. Just mute the conversation and respond to the odd one that is of 'Johnny' doing something more interesting.

Oops read that as dic!!. 😳
In my defense we are sat in the dark saving electricity costs!!

Dora26 · 01/05/2022 20:37

Ignore ignore ignore

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 01/05/2022 20:38

Just ignore them
if it's on WhatsApp put them in archive

What?! Are people actually doing this now? Mental.

Comedycook · 01/05/2022 20:40

Mute them on WhatsApp and every now and then send a message saying "aww cute".

It's not worth the drama of asking them to stop

FabulousFlowerpots · 01/05/2022 20:41

I see no one's saying tell them. I bet other people would be annoyed with me if I spammed them with pics of every bit of my motorbike that I'm restoring.

Maybe that's exactly what you should do. A bit PA but might make your point!!

DarleneSnell · 01/05/2022 20:42

Just mute the chat and change the WA settings so your phone doesn't autosave the pics on the phone and deletes on the app after X days (saves valuable storage!).

Of course they would be annoyed… but they wouldn’t let you know.

I was going to say spam them with something in return but I'm quite petty!

Dishwashersaurous · 01/05/2022 20:46

Just mute the WhatsApp and then only look and reply once a month or so, and make sure that photos don't automatically save

PAFMO · 01/05/2022 20:47

Yes, they'd be upset, and hurt and think you were nasty.
If you want to be that foul to someone, fill your boots.
Or, you could do as everyone has suggested. Just delete the pics as soon as they arrive etc.

I was going to suggest this.

Inkyblue123 · 01/05/2022 20:49

Spam them 100s of pictures of your cats, or neighbours cats.

JenniferPlantain · 01/05/2022 20:49

How often do they message? If it’s genuinely more than one pic a day I don’t think you’re rude to ask them to stop, but it probably will offend them. Is it a close family member?

Yes people are... including me right at this moment.

I'd actually be tempted to do that.

They may get the hint without you having to upset them and have the awkward conversation.

Moodycow78 · 01/05/2022 20:51

Every time you get a photo take a picture of whatever it is you're doing and send it back with a 'looks great, here's what I'm doing' obviously send really boring pics 🤣

Alwayswonderedwhy · 01/05/2022 20:52

How are they sending them? Could it be by mistake if it's that often? I have someone send me all their Instagram stories to me directly and I always wonder if it's intentional or not. I just mute them and reply with a like periodically to show I'm not interested.
