To buy an official oodie rather than a much cheaper replica?

tomatoandherbs · 27/04/2022 16:36

oodie offer on. But one get one free. So £84 for two.

good deal but…. The replicas are substantially cheaper than the oodie offer price.

any thoughts re those that have experienced both?!

many thanks

I don't really like them, I prefer things that tie up, button up or zip up. It would be awkward to put on and then take off when you inevitably get too warm in all the polyester.

I would get a cheap one from Primark to see if you actually use it.

Sunnierdays · 27/04/2022 16:40

Just bought an Oodie for my son’s 14th birthday, he’s a label snob and I knew he would love it. My other children have got cheaper versions and it has to be said the Oodie is better quality, it’s longer in length and a lot heavier. Going to invest in some more for the kids for winter !! Hope this helps!!

tomatoandherbs · 27/04/2022 16:41

Oh I’d 100% use!

dont give a hoot about brand name though

it is a tricky one whether the difference is worth the increase

DD has an oodie and a primark equivalent. There is a massive difference in quality, you get what you pay for in this instance. The primark one is very thin and just like a big hoodie. The oodie is thick, and more than just a hoodie.

averythinline · 27/04/2022 16:46

The Dunelm tie dye one is good and washes well ....its not quite as thick/fluffy as an oodie but much better than the primark one! ....and has been extensively sofa tested by my ds!

mycatisannoying · 27/04/2022 16:53

I love one that I got from EBay! I'm pretty sure it's called the Sienna hoodie blanket. It's just like the Oodie I think.
Have just had a look and they're reduced (no doubt because it's nearly winter Grin) but I'm in Scotland and it's still freezing, so will probably treat myself.

IsadoraQuagmire · 27/04/2022 16:54

I don't have an Oodie, but do have a Kudd.ly which is v similar in price and quality. I also have a cheapie from Amazon. The Kudd.ly is MUCH warmer, thicker and nicer.

IsadoraQuagmire · 27/04/2022 16:57

Sorry, didn't get the cheaper one from Amazon, but ebay, they're sold on both though. It's the Sienna, which is popular on here! Nice, especially if you don't feel the cold too much, but nowhere near as warm as the more expensive ones!

LunaMay · 27/04/2022 16:58

I think they're one thing worth the price. I really didn't think I'd like one until I was gifted one and oh my god I think I'll be living in it this winter!

I'd previously tried a friends cheaper version and the difference in quality was noticeably different.

nearlyspringyay · 27/04/2022 16:59

My kids have several of the primark versions, there is no difference apart from they're not in stock in primark now. They're quite warm, do you really want one now?

10HailMarys · 27/04/2022 16:59

I've never tried one (I would invariably just feel smothered and annoyed in one, I'm weird about things like that but if I was buying one for someone else, I think it depends how much cheaper really - I would definitely be wary of going on Amazon and ordering one for £20, or going somewhere like Primark where i reckon they're unlikely to be as thick and blankety as a proper one.

But my SIL got one from John Lewis by a brand called Ony Original and it felt very thick and luxurious to me, quite heavy and very soft, not just like a scaled-up normal hoodie. She said it was about £40 I think? But I don't think I've ever actually seen a genuine Oodie branded one in the wild, so not sure how it would compare! If you're getting two for £84, and you will either use both or could give one to someone else, then that seems like a good deal really.

ShakespearesSisters · 27/04/2022 17:02

I have a "comfy" off amazon, was about 30. Least flattering thing ever but so warm and cosy. I was worried about it as I get terrible static off those fleecy dressing gowns but don't on this material.

mycatisannoying · 27/04/2022 17:02

A pic of the one I've just bought. I'm excited!

I think thats the one the online home shop sells, I have it, it's thick and cosy. They also do an extra long version which DD tells me they will have to prise from her cold dead hands.
I wouldn't pay Oodie prices tbh

Oodie all the way. Much better quality and super warm. Wash well too.

mycatisannoying · 27/04/2022 17:08

@DeusInAbsentia

I saw the extra long, and it was an absolute toss up! In the end I went for the normal one, as I thought the longer length might be annoying to wear.

dizzydizzydizzy · 27/04/2022 17:11

I bought DD a cheap replica on Amazon nearly 2 years ago. She absolutely loves it and has worn it almost every day since. I always have to wash it straight away because she doesn't like to be without it. I think it was £20 or £25.

Tiree1965 · 27/04/2022 17:12

I have an oodie and can’t recommend highly enough. No need to pop the heating on when I’m working from home.

Heliotropium · 27/04/2022 17:13

I've got the sienna one and the quality is fine. I think the Oodie one would make me too hot as it's thicker, but the sienna is perfect

TheFormidableMrsC · 27/04/2022 17:17

I've got a Primark one and it does the job perfectly. I often find myself taking it off after a few hours as it get too hot. I wouldn't want anything heavier.

HangingOver · 27/04/2022 17:19

Just be aware if you have a cat she will sit on it at every available opportunity

TheyCallMeMaman · 27/04/2022 17:19

We had two for Christmas but only really need one as we can share it - if we're both freezing we'll put the heating on a bit but if only one feels cold... oodie.

So I have a second unopened one that I don't know what to do with because they don't seem to go for that much even BNWT

LunaLoveFood · 27/04/2022 17:20

We've got 3 of the £20 ones from amazon. They wash really well and are really warm and cosy.

TheyCallMeMaman · 27/04/2022 17:21

Oh no, ours are snuggz. They're really good and cheaper
