Noah Donohoe was an intelligent, smart, kind and gentle boy. He was 14 years old, the only child of Fiona Donohoe and her everything.

On 21st June 2020, a bright sunny day and as lockdown had eased, Noah set off on his bike to meet up with his two friends to do some schoolwork together, but never reached his destination. Instead, Noah's body was found 6 days later in a storm-drain, naked, in a part of his home city he did not know.

On the day Noah was found, before Noah was formally identified, the Police did a media release stating that there was ‘No Foul Play’ involved. If the police are so sure that ‘No Foul Play’ was involved and that they will not be found wanting under scrutiny, why are they now trying to stop Noah’s mother and her legal team getting access to four files of information on Noah’s investigation?

The Police have applied for a ‘Public Interest Immunity’ certificate, which, if granted, means they can hide four key files in the investigation. Such a certificate is only used in exceptional circumstances and rarely used in the case of a missing child. This certificate has been brought into play in cases where Police intelligence, informers or paramilitaries are involved.

Noah’s mummy has, from the very start of Noah being missing, believed that the police did not use all their resources in finding Noah. This was confirmed when it emerged they had not paid anyone overtime while investigating his death. They did little, if any, forensics and any suspects that were brought to their attention were dismissed as not relevant.

Noah's mummy believes that someone harmed Noah and that there have been serious and repeated failings in the Police investigation of his death. She will never get to the truth and Justice for Noah if she does not get all the information. These four files are vital to get the truth she desperately needs, to find out what really happened to her precious son.

This is a podcast with Noah's mother. It is a hard watch and so a trigger warning may be needed before watching:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRWsr3giWH8

After watching the podcast and the more I get to know, the more questions and doubts I have, and the more difficult it is to believe the police claim of 'No Foul Play'. Noah's death is being treated as a coroner's investigation and the police are not actively pursuing any person or persons in relation to it. Given the lack of a proper investigation into Noah's disappearance and death by the police and their application to keep their files secret, it is difficult to have any confidence in them. In fact, this has been described as their 'Stephen Lawrence moment'. Add to this that Noah's mother and auntie have received telephone threats, are trolled daily online and posters of Noah have been defaced - his face deliberately cut out of them. My own view is that the files must be released and a new and independent investigation begun.

As a parent, a member of the public and a long-standing Mumsnetter, I want to know the truth about what happened to Noah. Even more importantly, I want his mother Fiona to get the truth she needs to be allowed to grieve properly for her son, for Noah to get the justice he truly deserves, for all other children to be safe in the future and to place transparency and accountability where it should rightly be.

This is an earlier thread about Noah, nearly full and so about to close to new posts, but with useful links to newspaper articles and also to a petition in support of his mother:

I read about this case following a previous thread. It's disgusting that they won't release information. There is far too many unanswered questions here. Far, far too many.

TRIGGER WARNING - post-mortem question covered below:

Please note this information has been released into the public domain by the family: One such crucially important question is about the condition of Noah's body in relation to the location in which it was found. Niamh Donohoe, Fiona's sister and Noah's auntie, viewed post-mortem photographs on behalf of Fiona - to spare her that, basically. If Noah had entered the storm drain system where the police say he had, and travelled such a long distance within that rough terrain in the dark and naked to where he was found as police claim, you would expect some injuries across his body. If his body had remained in that storm drain for six days, you would expect some damage from immersion in the water, bacteria and vermin. There was apparently 'only' a bump to his forehead and water damage 'only' to his hands and feet. It is claimed that Noah drowned but, as I understand it from the family, the water in his lungs was not compared with water from the storm drain to confirm that he did actually die there.

To add, my understanding is that the storm drain is 1km long.

Noah Donohoe inquest should be heard by jury, family lawyer says today:

This part of the article linked to refers to the PII certificate:

'The hearing was also told that an application from the PSNI to to prevent certain information being disclosed to the inquest would be sent to the Northern Ireland Office for approval by a minister “imminently”.
Counsel for the coroner, Sean Doran QC, said that the PSNI had completed their consideration of Public Interest Immunity (PII) certification on sensitive material.
He said: “It remains a matter for the relevant government authority whether a PII certificate will be issued.”
Barrister for the PSNI, Donal Lunny QC, told the hearing that the deputy chief constable Mark Hamilton had examined the PII applications in “some detail” and this had prompted a “reconsideration of a number of proposed redactions”.
He added: “That work was resumed and completed yesterday and that material will be passed on to the NIO imminently. I would expect that to be done this week.
“Once they have it they should be able to give an indication as to how long it will take for their minister to consider it and decide whether or not to grant a public interest immunity certificate.”
Mr McCrisken said: “I urge the NIO, once they receive the papers, to carry out this exercise as quickly as possible.”
Ms Campbell (Counsel for Ms Donohoe) said: “The volume of material I understand is three folders, in the region of 188 pages, 120 pages and 200 pages.
“The proposed redactions, as we understand it, are to the minimum possible.”

The next pre-inquest review hearing will be held on July 1'.

So they've changed the date; of the next hearing from June 21st to July 1st? Someone finally realised how awful that was. Or is it a different hearing

MNettersForNoahAndFiona · 26/04/2022 21:48

It looks like it has been moved from Noah's anniversary, which is a good thing, but you have to wonder why the coroner's office put the family through that choice of date in the first place.

OP posts:
MNettersForNoahAndFiona · 26/04/2022 22:14

The material in the three files in the PII certificate runs to 508 pages.

The more one learns the more lamentable the ‘investigation’ by the PSNI appears.

Superhanz · 27/04/2022 04:45

I absolutely agree OP.

I live locally and find this case really distressing. It does the PSNI no favours, same old RUC? It sadly appears to be that way.

MNettersForNoahAndFiona · 27/04/2022 08:34

I agree, CatChant and Superhanz.

Im glad you read the date of the next hearing has been changed, although it should never have been set for the original date knowing the distress it would cause.

VeganGod · 27/04/2022 20:08

And good to see the numbers signing the petition increasing. Thank you for the links and keeping us informed OP.

Yes it's almost like 'someone ' wants it to be kept out of the public eye.

I also don't understand why there aren't more people signing 😕

catandcoffee · 27/04/2022 20:13

Are people under the impression they have to live in Ireland to sign
