I'm suprised the Mail article cause such a stir. And it's way more offensive to Boris than Angela. I think she's come off really well from this, raises her profile. I wouldn't be suprised if this was entirely made up by the journo and there is no leak.

I couldn’t care less that she’s a working class woman, as am I. I couldn’t care less about her “breeding”. That’s not a phrase I would ever use and that’s not what I said, nor do I think any kind of “refined” education is better than her background. It’s clearly not because she represents more of the population than the Tory toffs because of her working class background. You’ve paraphrased what I said and changed it into something completely different.

@Rhondapearlman Paraphrasing is putting something into your own words while retaining the original meaning of the source. If you feel I've misinterpreted your post, no problem I'll accept I'm wrong, but I've not paraphrased anything.

I've directly quoted your entire post and when you lead with something like "she's thick as mince" and make comments about how she speaks then that's how it came across to me.

I care that she can’t give a viable alternative whenever she’s interviewed and asked about what alternative action she would take, to whatever issue she is talking about. She a lot of bluster and very little substance. She lets herself down because of this.

That's literally every politician ever. I don't think I've every heard one give a straight answer or do anything other than disagree with the opposition when asked for an alternative. But AR seems to get a particularly hard time because of how she speaks and presents herself compared to others, which I can only assume is down to her class. The only other politician I have seen get similar levels of abuse is Mhairi Black, who is also from a working class background and doesn't try to hide her roots. Seems to be a bit of a theme that if your female and from a certain background you're somehow thick and uncouth.

It's fascinating that there are reports 4 MPs have said Rayner was the source of the 'crossing and uncrossing legs' story, they all overheard her bellowing about it in the HOC.

So I'm baffled by all her faux outrage tbh.

More anonymous briefings? I know who I believe.

If the Mail practiced actual journalism it would just say who reported it to them. That would be an actual story, albeit one that probably wouldn't suit the conservatives.

Sarah Vine, DM columnist and soon to be ex Mrs Michael Gove, believes it's a compliment. That's what passes for a compliment in Tory World? Lucky Tory women.

I do hope so. I think she's great at her job; it just goes to show never write people off when they are young.

She definetly deserves better support from a lot more women. She has not had an easy ride, but look at where she is now.

More to the point, why would you not support her; she has had to fight career battles over and over again that few of us truly understand.

She represents strong, focused women and working class people - there's nothing wrong with that!✊

As a woman, she gets no support from me. She is emotive and aggressive. Calling the Tories scum..aside from being unoriginal, it's highly unprofessional. She doesn't even make the list of female politician role models, for me.

@Rhondapearlman - It’s because they think the average working class thicko will identify with Raynor and therefore vote for her.

This is the reason that Labour are totally unelectable: they have no idea about the values of the people they claim to represent. No decent working class person would ever vote for aggressive, loud mouth Raynor - she represents everything they despise. Just because you get stuck having to live near people like her, doesn’t mean you have to aspire to be like them.

  1. Polls say otherwise. Her personal ratings are considerably better than Johnson's.

  2. Talking about 'decent working class people' like they're one homogeneous group with a single hivemind (that conveninetly aligns with your own political stance) is deeply foolish.

Yup and a very thinly veiled hatred of anyone from North of Islington is very prevalent on here too.

Coming from some one north of Islington in Yorkshire, I find her unbearable and common a muck. If you are going to represent an entire area you represent all, and yes she is a goby so and so, imaging her speaking like that in front of the UN, NATO, EU etc. She stirs the pot just as much as any other seedy politician, she certainly does not represent me as a working class woman.

derxa · 27/04/2022 11:39

You can't even be bothered to spell her last name correctly for one thing. Just one example of why I won't be taking your "analysis" very seriously.

WoodenClock · 27/04/2022 11:46

I agree, I think it's more offensive to Johnson than Rayner.

I mean, he has his reputation there for a deserved reason, but the idea that the PM might be distracted by someone crossing their legs? He doesn't sound entirely suitable for the role!

If this came from the Tories, it's surely more attempts to undermine their leader than to harm Labour?

newnamethanks · 27/04/2022 11:51

Well, I hope Ian Blackford will be wearing his kilt at PMQs today. Hypnotic. Those knees! Hard to tear myself away.

EYProvider · 27/04/2022 11:52

@SleeplessInEngland - Polls? Filled in by whom?

We will see who is foolish at the next election if AR is shoved forward as a potential leader. She will literally finish off the Labour Party.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 27/04/2022 11:54

Georgeskitchen · 27/04/2022 09:22

Ask her who has a cervix

Isnt that the question Johnson refused to answer?

EYProvider · 27/04/2022 11:59

@daimbarsatemydogsbone - LOL. You’re right, that’s how much I respect AR - can’t even be bothered to learn how to spell her name.

I wasn’t giving an ‘analysis’, by the way - just offering an opinion. Is that OK? Your aggressive response is exactly what I would expect from a 20 something advising the likes of AR, however. It’s why she will never win any votes outside of the Islington bubble. No one likes being patronised, @daimbarsatemydogsbone .

Hi Janiie, maybe you like to read Angela Rayner's take on it

twitter.com/AngelaRayner/status/1519234322221486080?t=orTrxXHkwfe5DJHoCvSv_Q&s=19

The Mail implies today that I somehow enjoy being subjected to sexist slurs.

I don’t.

They are mortifying and deeply hurtful.

I think they're the only ones who think it's hypocrisy

jowly · 27/04/2022 12:07

@luckylavender I was questioning whether she is a victim of not. I wasn't blaming her for anything, just questioning why the automatic assumption.

And that's what always happens to women. We should be questioning why no one was surprised that this was a plausible scenario because we have a PM who cannot keep it in his trousers. Nothing to do with Rayner.

itrytomakemyway · 27/04/2022 08:10

And in response to the comment that this slur is a 'distraction' from party gate, are we really saying that Mr Johnson/ the Tories are only allowed one scandal at a time because the British public cannot cope with understanding multiple issues.

Why on earth should Angela Rayner quietly put up with this because they are other, bigger problems at hand? I think this IS a big deal. I have never especially been an Angela Rayner supporter, but in this I stand with her. It is grossly offensive. No woman, in any job, should be expected to tolerate this. In addition, it happened to her. She has the right to deal with it as she wants - it is not up to others to complain that she could have done more to promote the rights of women or challenge mysogyny.

Apologies @itrytomakemyway It was not my intention to suggest that anyone should put up with this type of slur. Absolutely not.

My point was this sort of 'dead cat' is used over and over again and is allowed to take over everywhere. It has pushed out other more damaging stories. My contention is that Johnson doesn't mind that too much and is very happy to see the previous scandal slip out of public notice.

Looking back it's clear that this happens over and over again, so much so that I am sure it must be deliberate. Dominic Cummings first used the 'dead cat' description. It may have been used before that (good day to bury bad news' but nowadays it is routine.

And successful.

It doesn't damage Johnson, who has been charged with much worse and just shrugged. He was clear this time that it was 'not in his name'

I would like to see this at least some of the news cycle devoted to things the current government think they have got away with. That list is pretty long but everyone is talking about this case. Pure distraction.

For a w/c woman, pregnant in her teens and working in a care home to become an MP let alone a senior front bencher is quite inspiring surely?

Its good to know that you think about half the voting electorate in Ashton under lyme are not decent working class people, says quite a lot about you.

As women, are we to automatically support every woman? I support those who invoke certain emotions/thoughts in me - whether man OR woman.
