I'm suprised the Mail article cause such a stir. And it's way more offensive to Boris than Angela. I think she's come off really well from this, raises her profile. I wouldn't be suprised if this was entirely made up by the journo and there is no leak.

Apparently she had admitted making these remarks to 3 other colleagues, one also a woman, who have all corroborated that she made these remarks. Just because she is a woman, everyone is automatically assuming she is a victim.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 27/04/2022 06:46

She was already a house hold name. She wipes the floor with Boris at PMQs , whoever paid for his education should get a refund.

Some of the women phoning into LBC were unbelievable saying she deserves all she gets because of the way she dresses. I imagine they say that about rape victims too.

balalake · 27/04/2022 07:06

The only positive I feel about this is the support shown for Angela Rayner.

DirectionToPerfection · 27/04/2022 07:15

Some appaling misogyny shown on this thread, bloody hell.

AlternativePerspective · 27/04/2022 04:35

I can’t stand the woman.

Sounds more like a publicity stunt on the part of the Labour Party to me.

AR is fairly widely despised and no, disliking someone does not equal misogyny, she would be equally disliked if she was a man with the same views.

The whole article is so ridiculous that it’s actually laughable and IMO not even worthy of discussion.

And the Mail on Sunday would go along with this publicity stunt?
Yeah that makes sense 🤔

FinallyHere · 27/04/2022 07:39

I honestly think it's another dead cat ploy by the Tories "Look there's a dead cat"

Successfully stops everyone talking about Party-gate

Johnson doesn't care. He has had worse said about himself and of course he gets to 'play the gentleman' and claim he never said it. Nothing will ever happen to the people who write / published the story and the new cycle has successfully been. Over on.

My dearest wish would be for more publishers and broadcasters to report it framed as a distraction and maintain momentum of the real story. How can the media be so naive unless they want to play along with the PM?

HRTQueen · 27/04/2022 07:42

I think her response is showing how she is maturing as an MP which is not what would have been expected

that said I still feel she has no place in the shadow cabinet but she is there to appease the left of the party

girlmom21 · 27/04/2022 07:46

I think she could have done much better from it.

She's going down the 'classist' route rather than the misogyny route...

She could have used this to make a real stand for women and she hasn't.

Cuck00soup · 27/04/2022 07:54

I disagree with her politically and worry about her grasp on biology.

The MOS story and the Tory MP source belong in the 1970's along with Jim Davidson, Bernard Manning and nude women revealed behind packets of nuts.

Cuck00soup · 27/04/2022 07:57

She could have used this to make a real stand for women and she hasn't.

Except she includes men in her definition of women so the strategy isn't available to her.

itrytomakemyway · 27/04/2022 07:57

It was an utterly vile thing to say about a woman - I don't care what party they are in. It was disgusting.

I can't believe that posters on here are suggesting the Labour party or Angela Rayner herself were the source of this slur in order to make political gain.

If someone had something similar about me I would be in pieces. I admire the way she has handled this with dignity.

Momicrone · 27/04/2022 07:58

What does twaw mean

AngelsWithSilverWings · 27/04/2022 08:05

It will absolutely have raised her profile but I'm sure it can't have been nice for her to experience.

I mentioned her at a dinner party the other night as someone I'd like to see as leader of the Labour Party and no one around the table ( a couple of disillusioned Tory voters and a couple of staunch Tories ) had heard of her. I'm sure they know who she is now though.

I'm struggling with the idea that she is widely despised as she always comes across as really likeable and approachable to me. I listened to an interview she did last year and her back story is fascinating. She has not had it easy in life.

chilliplant634 · 27/04/2022 08:06

"I can't believe that posters on here are suggesting the Labour party or Angela Rayner herself were the source of this slur in order to make political gain."

No one can say that for certain. But after the last few years, I have zero trust in politicians, be they men or women. They may not have been the source of the slur, but they will certainly use it to their advantage.

picklemewalnuts · 27/04/2022 08:06

@Momicrone Trans women are women. As in, men can literally turn in to women and therefore are entitled to use women's spaces, win women's races etc.

I didn't know who she was before this, so she's had some been from it. I was confusing her with Clare Raynor, and was a bit surprised.

Alexandra2001 · 27/04/2022 08:09

Yorksirenotsorose · 26/04/2022 23:17

The same AR who recently said ""We cannot get any worse than a bunch of scum, homophobic, racist, misogynistic, absolute vile … banana republic, vile, nasty, Etonian… piece of scum." At the labour conference, yep classy one she is. Take a bit more than this to raise her profile 🤣

TBF she did make a full public apology, which doesn't excuse the original comments (made when the Tories wouldn't fund free school meals for the countries poorest children)

However, it is a lot more than Bojo who came out with a load of racist misogynist comments which he, his party and his Govt defended.

itrytomakemyway · 27/04/2022 08:10

And in response to the comment that this slur is a 'distraction' from party gate, are we really saying that Mr Johnson/ the Tories are only allowed one scandal at a time because the British public cannot cope with understanding multiple issues.

Why on earth should Angela Rayner quietly put up with this because they are other, bigger problems at hand? I think this IS a big deal. I have never especially been an Angela Rayner supporter, but in this I stand with her. It is grossly offensive. No woman, in any job, should be expected to tolerate this. In addition, it happened to her. She has the right to deal with it as she wants - it is not up to others to complain that she could have done more to promote the rights of women or challenge mysogyny.

That comes very close to victim blaming. Does Angela Rayner not have the right or reply, or the right to defend herself. Those horrible slurs were printed in a National newspaper. Now they are being made worse by suggestions that she contributed them herself.

girlmom21 · 27/04/2022 08:16

You're right. She can deal with it as she likes. However she hasn't made the right noises politically.

Oddessafile · 27/04/2022 08:35

Scratch beneath the surface of MN and you'll find a misogynistic and snobbish underbelly. Previous threads about AR have never ended well as she's not the right kind of w/c woman, a bit too common and gobby apparently.

Mxflamingnoravera · 27/04/2022 08:37

Maybe she should wear a floor length dress to keep her legs covered so that those manly instincts are not stirred. I also cannot believe that the daily mail would entertain running a story that would benefit Labour.

This whole issue is about misogyny and the suggestion that men cannot control themselves from the cunning wiles of women who use their feminine charms to distract poor men. It's the same argument that the Taliban use for forcing women into the burqa. Men need to grow up and look beyond the end of their cocks. It says more about the men than it does about Angela Raynor. I agree with her views about the Tories and the sooner we can see that this Etonian oligarchy are governing for their own and not the greater good the better.

Rhondapearlman · 27/04/2022 08:42

She’s as thick as mince. If I were her I’d be more worried that she can’t string a coherent sentence together than anything else. I can’t stand the tories especially the duplicitous Boris, but she’s just can’t answer a question straight, or give any sensible alternative when questioned about how she’d do things differently.

Mayorquimby2 · 27/04/2022 09:05

So the new line is that Raynor/Labour briefed the story to the mail (who ran with it for reasons) because they knew the story was so indefensible that no Tory mp or supporter would even attempt to defend it to raise her profile so they could be the victim, notwithstanding the raft of Tory supporters who are in fact trying to defend it.

Did not see that one coming I just admit.

But we can't call them stupid

Mayorquimby2 · 27/04/2022 09:09

The "use it to their advantage" line of attack is up there with the complaints that the mean lawyer man wasn't nice to Boris for 7 whole minutes

"They've only bloody well made us face the consequences of our own actions, the opportunistic bastards"

Scorchedterf · 27/04/2022 09:17

For an earlier poster, TWAW means Trans Women are Women.
Angela Rayner believes that A man can become a woman and from that they can gain access to womens spaces such as prisons, changing rooms, sports, hospital wards, refuges, statistical recording ….. the list is endless.
The rest of the Labour Part also agree that TWAW . A lot of women think that this stance will eventually silence women and is a deeply misogynistic policy.
