To think this is actually great PR for Angela Rayner?

I'm suprised the Mail article cause such a stir. And it's way more offensive to Boris than Angela. I think she's come off really well from this, raises her profile. I wouldn't be suprised if this was entirely made up by the journo and there is no leak.

"I think the country is or soon will be, ready for a quieter style of politics, being PM shouldn't be like the X Factor."

I hope so.

Are you claiming misogyny isn't misogyny if the target isn't a shrinking violet? That's a novel interpretation.

Well I am Tory scum according to Rayner. Should I take offence or shrug it off? I really wonder how some of you get by in life, if you're so affected by triviality. I will carry on doing what I've always done: take notice of opinions of those I respect. Rayner doesn't even feature on my respect radar.

DuncinToffee · 28/04/2022 17:07

I was waiting for that whataboutery

Angela Rayner apologised for making that comment.

Misogyny and sexisms is now trivial?

Notonthestairs · 28/04/2022 17:09

AR's comment about scum was directed at Tory politicians, not voters as I'm sure Lab is aware. We don't all identify quite so closely with the political party we vote for.

And presumably using Labs logic the MoS piece would qualify as misogyny if it were directed against Rudd or Cooper for example but Rayner doesn't qualify because of her ..

I don't agree with anything else @Labscollie is saying but her apologising is her saving face and means nothing, like all the other constant political 'apologies'

As far as i'm aware, AR has apologised just the once, if she kept doing it and was always being found out, then fair enough.

So i'm sure BJ would have been cut some slack if he attended one party, say the evening drinks one, photographed by Sunak? but he went to a dozen or more.

SueSaid · 28/04/2022 17:54

'Angela Rayner apologised for making that comment.'

She apologised eventually. I believe after the murder of David Amess when she finally realised inciting hate was not a good idea.

She of course wasn't responsible for his death but it is disingenuous to glibly say Rayner apologised when we all know fine well she took her time to do so.

Blossomtoes · 28/04/2022 17:58

Remind me how long it took for Johnson to apologise for Partygate.

Nobody's saying Boris' 'apologies' hold any weight. It's not either/or.

SueSaid · 28/04/2022 18:00

We can't have whataboutery I'm afraid.

Rayner apologised. Eventually.

newnamethanks · 28/04/2022 18:03

Admiration of Thatcher, remind me where that memorial statue of her is. And why it's there and not outside. Perhaps she'll make it to Grantham this year? I have my doubts and if it is re-erected there I expect people with long memories won't be celebrating.

Notonthestairs · 28/04/2022 18:15

I'm still not really understanding why Rayner's ill advised and unpleasant remarks at a conference reception means it's not misogynistic for the MoS to imply she sits like Sharon Stone to distract Johnson.
The two issues are unconnected.

Similarly I despise the Carrie Johnson leads the PM astray stories.
Wicked women, vulnerable men crap. It has no place in our media.

Johnson apologised - after lying repeatedly.

The statue needs cleaning so often theyve had to ask Rees Mogg to stop visiting it, looked like a plasterers radio

Well its like this. She can't act all faux outraged when she has said far worse. Perhaps she could lead by example and be a better role model regarding slinging insults about?

newnamethanks · 28/04/2022 18:29

He apologised for one thing, not for the catalogue of apparent misunderstandings, non-comprehension and duplicity, which is still accumulating, requiring an explanation other than simple expediency. And he wasn't there; if he was, he wasn't doing anything wrong and you're all just mean. What about Keir's beer?

Blossomtoes · 28/04/2022 18:32

She’s not the only one who’s outraged. Would you be outraged if it had been Truss or Patel @JaniieJones?

Exactly.

Incidentally, it looks like Carrie will be carrying the can for Abbagate, 'cos Johnson was in another part of the flat, interviewing someone for a job.

Apparently.

If anyone is vulnerable, it's her. Johnson won't hesitate to dump her if he wants or needs to. And he will.

Notonthestairs · 28/04/2022 18:47

"she has said far worse."

That's a matter of option isn't it?

Truth is some people are quite happy to read misogynistic articles provided they don't like the individual it's aimed at.

No. Posters are saying she should perhaps stop with the insults too.

DuncinToffee · 28/04/2022 19:09

She has

And saying 'she should perhaps stop' is minimising.

HRTQueen · 28/04/2022 19:49

a few polls do not change the deep seated belief that many have of the Tory party being the better party on managing the economy, as Labour spend more and have fairer taxes If you look at the polls around Labour managing the economy read further as this is also about taxes and spending. Tories are at the moment increasing both. That is a problem for Labour

as for Johnson being a political powerhouse he is it’s that simple he is very popular with voters he always has been. Hence why the Tory Party have a very large majority.

it has nothing to do about you or I thinking he is not the right person to be PM he wins over voters that is why they backed him being party leader

I agree two years is a long time and that is exctly what is concerning for Labour given the past two years under this government

Blossomtoes · 28/04/2022 20:06

Perhaps not, but the fact that we’re currently being taxed at the highest level for 30 years might be a clue.

I agree two years is a long time and that is exctly what is concerning for Labour given the past two years under this government

I agree two years is a long time and that is exctly what is reassuring for Labour given the past two years under this government, with its fucking awful record.
