I'm suprised the Mail article cause such a stir. And it's way more offensive to Boris than Angela. I think she's come off really well from this, raises her profile. I wouldn't be suprised if this was entirely made up by the journo and there is no leak.

@SleeplessInEngland that's not what I said, is it?

Where's the logic in repeatedly calling early elections when you don't need to?

It's not about 'needing' to - you do it because you think you can win. That's why they did it in 2017 and 2019. They're not doing it this time because right now they don't think they would win.

Nightlystroll · 27/04/2022 14:55

The story was ridiculous. Does the average person care? To me the Tory Party looks bad for having an MP who's said it. But it won't ultimately harm them because AR does not perform well in interviews and so won't be able to capitalise on it. It's a storm in a teacup. The Conservatives are going to be annihilated at the local elections which will dominate the papers and minds of politicians and theur losses will have nothing to do with Rayners legs.

SleeplessInEngland · 27/04/2022 14:04

Only because the tories are too scared to call an early one. But hey, I'm sure after another two years of a cost of living crisis the incumbents will cruise back into office.

Let's hope when Labour, finally do get back in power, they can clear up the fiscal mess the same way Tories had to. First though, Labour will keep themselves busy spend spend spending other people's money. Business people, they are not.

Yet its the Conservatives that have spent far more of tax payers money over the last 2 years, inc and estimated £43 billion completely wasted (Fraud and PPE)
They have also raised taxes to levels not seen since WW2 with inflation at 40 year highs.... or isn't this any of their fault? lol.

So not really sure you've come up with a good example here.

EYProvider · 27/04/2022 15:22

@Alexandra2001 - Slept her way out of poverty? Where did I say that?

She is there because the Labour Party thinks people ‘like her’ (in their view) will vote for her. She is the poster child the Labour Party have invented to win back the heartlands. It’s about as subtle as a brick to the skull. Naturally, the Labour Party thinks that AR’s voters are too thick to see it.

Identity politics matter to everyone in politics and on Mumsnet. Oh, and brainwashed kids. No one else cares.

Alexandra2001 · 27/04/2022 10:01

Quite. Her inability to offer alternative ideas has nothing to do with her being a woman, it's because she the Labour DL, and the whole party are clueless

Labour have suggested a whole host of different ideas, from education to NHS to energy costs and AR has talked a lot about them.... but if you come from the stance that "Labour are bad" then you obviously wont be listening.

Totally.

itsgettingweird · 27/04/2022 16:36

I've got home from work and working my way through this. I've got to lunchtime ish.

What stuck me so far is that suddenly a load of posters have come out of the woodwork now AR is mentioned to dig the heel in. Very depressing for a website mainly aimed at mums/ woman.

You can definitely see where people have an agenda!

Desdemonadryeyes · 27/04/2022 16:38

What a weird way to spend your time.

So you haven't spent time reading the thread?

Or you just post randomly to disparage others? What a weird way to spend your time.

The Tories have left office in dire financial straits more frequently since the war, than Labour.
Don’t bother bringing up the George Osborn expose, it was and is a traditional joke.
Also, business: I give you The Railways, The Water Companies, The Utilities Groups…

Well clearly you also like to spend time doing weird things too - as you're doing exactly the same

🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤣

But actually I get up at 4, take ds swimming, come home and go to work in a demanding job, get home and have 30 minutes before taking ds training again. And yes, I enjoy catching up on threads I'm following in that 30 minutes. It also distracts me as my mum is in hospital with terminal cancer.

But if you need to think it's weird for people on Mn to read the threads their responding too when your doing the same - crack on HmmGrin

Desdemonadryeyes · 27/04/2022 16:48

I don’t analyse every reply and who has posted it.

Alexandra2001 · 27/04/2022 16:54

@EYProvider It was you who said "we all know how she got there" a very clear inference.

You've an entrenched view of Rayner and somehow believe she was picked as a child to become the "poster girl" of the Labour party.... weird.

So where were all these let's support a woman, when itvcame to Thatcher? The hypocrisy is astounding.

Labscollie · 27/04/2022 16:59

Shall wait for the goalposts to be moved, now an iconic female PM has been introduced to the thread.

Lots of us weren't alive.
Lots more won't have been old enough to make a difference.
She was around before social media.

Steering through a global pandemic? You're surprised spending was so high?

I wasn't around during 1066, but I can still tell you what battle took place. The it was before my time mantra doesn't wash. She is still talked about today.

Gilead · 27/04/2022 17:07

Steering through a global pandemic whilst wasting tax payers money on non existent ppe . Hmm…

eastegg · 27/04/2022 17:08

Ohhhhladz · 27/04/2022 02:37

What if a gorilla riding a motorcycle charged head-on into oncoming traffic, forcing a school bus off the road and into the underbrush and startling a passing bear who then panicked and tripped over a Guatemalan nun visiting on a charter bus tour, thus inciting an international incident that led to a embargo against the UK which resulted in an ongoing shortage of crayons?

Generally, the burden is on the accuser to prove, or show convincing evidence, that a particular thing happened. Speculating that some random thing MIGHT have happened is a bit silly and unethical - and in this particular context probably slightly pervy.

This. I didn’t quite know how to begin to respond to jowly’s stupid post but this does it nicely.

Gilead · 27/04/2022 17:08

Oh and looking at the figures we’re the last country in Europe to be catching up and of course we’re not entitled to any help from the EU pandemic funding assistance. Shot ourselves in the foot there.

Did you moan about ppl receiving furlough or did you think that was money was magically going to be pulled out from a tree?

girlmom21 · 27/04/2022 17:11

@Labscollie and nobody believes Thatcher should have experienced sexism but that wasn't what you asked.

Blossomtoes · 27/04/2022 17:13

Are you living in a time warp? Thatcher left power 32 years ago, half the posters on this thread weren’t adults or possibly not even born then! Anyway, she did fuck all to support women so why should we support her?

ClaudineClare · 27/04/2022 17:15

It’s absolute horseshit, but the Labour Party is full of arrogant kids who think they know better than anyone else (Mumsnet is run by them by the looks of it)

Do you know who actually runs Mumsnet. Hint: Justine Roberts is not a "kid".

The misogyny on this thread is astounding. Yes, great PR for Rayner. In fact, why on earth doesn't the female minister who had to deal with some lecher of an MP sitting next to her looking at porn in the HoC go public? It would be a great way for here to raise her profile.

The Tory government is collapsing into a steaming, fetid heap of lies, corruption and sleaze. Tory voters are in furious denial about the extent of it.
