To think dogs are fantastic?

To give a different perspective to the dog hating thread.

We've got a 14 month Doberman.

She's lovely, well trained, I always pick up her poo, great recall.

We are met with a lot of dislike and hate.

Because she's a lockdown puppy, because she is a large bread, because she runs fast, but does not go near people.

We lost our other dog 18 months previously, I initially said never again. But I realised the 14 years joy he gave, made up for the pain of losing him.

Picture for effect.

I’ve just adopted a 11 month old pup from the rescue centre. He’s chewed most of my house up but I still lurve him 💕

He's a 14-month-old pug

LakieLady · 16/04/2022 12:08

Dogs are the best.

I don't have a dog atm (lost my lakeland girl 18 months ago) and am trying to get a rescue. But I do dog sit for a couple of friends and a neighbour from time to time, and I am so much happier when I have a dog in the house!

CircusBaby · 16/04/2022 12:12

Love love love dogs. All breeds. In fact I'm more likely to say hi to a dog when I'm out then I am the owner. So, hi dogs of the thread, you're all gorgeous Grin

I have 3 hounds, 2 large breed and a dinky one. The big ones think they're still puppies despite being 4 years old (I bought them both from the same litter), and will climb on our laps for a cuddle. Considering they're each nearly as big as the sofa that's a lot of dog!

Auntieobem · 16/04/2022 12:13

@tiggergoesbounce

auntieobem awww he is gorgeous, how old is he?

Yes we have a 12month old, she is fabulous. She is the opposite to yours OP she is a little fluff bomb that thinks she is the size of a dobergoat, she has no fear

She's 15 months @tiggergoesbounce.

We've had dogs for 20 years. They are the single biggest giver of joy in my life. I love everything about them.

MissDollyMix · 16/04/2022 12:15

Love dogs. My dogs have kept me sane during some very dark hours in my life.

crepesncream · 16/04/2022 12:22

I always say if I ever won the lottery I could make my life complete. To buy a piece of land and look after unwanted dogs would be my dream come true.

Tulipblacksmith · 16/04/2022 12:42

@CircusBaby

I went to see my friends newborn and suddenly realised I had spent the whole time cuddling her dog 😳.

currahee · 16/04/2022 12:49

Is the dislike and hate in real life or just perceived from dog threads on here? It may be that your dog has more impact on other people than you believe.

I love dogs - I have lots, participate in all-consuming dog related hobbies/sports, and work in a related industry - but have zero interest in other people's and I can understand completely why people dislike them on principle, as I too am impacted by things like poor recall, poor social skills, not picking up poo etc.

Theoldwoman · 16/04/2022 13:00

We have just got a rescue dog two weeks ago and we all adore her! She's 8 months old, and is settling in really well after a rough start to her short life. I can't believe the immense joy she has brought to us all in such a short time.

Theoldwoman · 16/04/2022 13:04

This is a lovely thread, please keep the pics coming

I am so jealous

frankie001 · 16/04/2022 13:09

These are my two. Chewy is yorkie, Pomeranian, chihuahua and Mimi is a Pekingese. Chewy is a dick and Mimi can do no wrong! Adore them both!

howthebellstoll · 16/04/2022 13:11

No, I bloody love them and I need one. I'm a puppy raiser for guide dogs and I sadly haven't got the time for a small puppy at the moment, so I'm on the rehoming list for a withdrawn one (DH can help with a pet dog, so will be much easier than another puppy)

I'm having to be content with other people letting me fuss theirs when I'm out on walks at the moment.

Haha, that made me laugh as it's something I'd do 😂

Thesearmsofmine · 16/04/2022 13:22

I bloody love dogs, we can’t have one due to renting which is such a shame as we lIve in the perfect place with a woodland behind us, I am at home during the day and the dc would love one. We have to borrow family dogs and take them out instead!
I grew up with a lovely dog and was absolutely devastated when she died (she was 17 so a very good age).

So many beautiful dogs on this thread.

RedHelenB · 16/04/2022 13:29

Yanbu, my dog is too. He's the sort of dog that children like to stoke too so he gives sonething back to the wider community.

intwrferingma · 16/04/2022 13:31

Dogs rock!

minsmum · 16/04/2022 13:34

We have had a rescue Fox hound coming up to 5 years now wouldn't be without him

GrouchyKiwi · 16/04/2022 13:40

My fluffy beast is nearly 4 now. She's been a lot more difficult than I thought she would because she's not a calm Newfie, but she is a darling and loves absolutely everyone, and recently has settled down a lot.

She's now sitting beside me on the sofa, disconsolate because DH has taken the children out to play without her. She's got arthritis in her knee after tearing her CCL last year so has to take it easy for a while till the joint medicine starts working.

iloveeverykindofcat · 16/04/2022 13:42

@Mreggsworth It's not so much the number of words he knows that startles me (I think there was a dog that knew 1000) but how quickly he learns and also that he knows the difference between 'go to the car' and 'go to the window' or 'big ball' and 'small ball'. Does he know that 'ball' applies to both? Or does he just thing 'bigball' is the name of one and 'smallball' is the name of the other? As my name suggests, I personally have cats and whilst one is clearly very intelligent and the other more of the sweet-but-dumb variety, its harder to test these things out on them because they don't exactly follow commands.

Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 16/04/2022 13:55

I have just been ill. Every time I work up from a nap or sleep my dog was there, watching over me. She has been very concerned that I was not well. Today I met a group a people I have not seen for a while. She went round and greeted everyone one of them. She is the best!
