To think dogs are fantastic?

To give a different perspective to the dog hating thread.

We've got a 14 month Doberman.

She's lovely, well trained, I always pick up her poo, great recall.

We are met with a lot of dislike and hate.

Because she's a lockdown puppy, because she is a large bread, because she runs fast, but does not go near people.

We lost our other dog 18 months previously, I initially said never again. But I realised the 14 years joy he gave, made up for the pain of losing him.

Picture for effect.

@GuyFawkesDay

Here's my lost lockdown puppy. He'd awesome. Typical spaniel: an Exowet mud/water seeking missile, adoring, needy, daft and just the loveliest soul. Amazing with kids, loves everything and everyone.

4 legged joy bringer.

What a beautiful boy. This thread is giving me life.
BeanyBops · 16/04/2022 08:58

I absolutely adore my boy, he is my best friend!

Fuckitydoodah · 16/04/2022 09:01

@Catnuzzle

He's a red Border Collie. Born in Wales.
Ah definitely not a Greek then! 😁

I ummed and aahed for many many months before finally getting a dog. 10 years later he really is a part of the family and I dread the day he has to go. He has given us all so much joy and laughter. In a house full of of hormonal teenagers and their menopausal mum sometimes I feel he is the glue that keeps us together

FfeminyddCymraeg · 16/04/2022 09:09

I adore my two - they are half sisters but couldn’t be more different.

Neither are small at 10-12kg each and love being laptops - usually at the same time. They will only eat their food if you put cheese on top and love a bowl of milk. Thankfully neither appear to be lactose intolerant Grin

@catnuzzle your pup is the spit of my late dog.

PugInTheHouse · 16/04/2022 09:12

We have an 18month old pug who has brought some much happiness to our lives, we said we'd never get another puppy as they are such hard work but we have had our 10 week old alaskan malamute/czechoslovakian wolfdog cross for a week now and he's amazing!

Wouldn’t be without her. A joy to us and the kids.

Getting my pup at the end of last year was the best thing I’ve ever done. I don’t have kids, sadly never will, and I’ve been struggling with depression for a couple of years. My mental health has improved so much, and my partner - who didn’t actually want a dog 🙈 - is utterly besotted with him. Our relationship has improved and he brings us so much joy. His recall is pretty rubbish (the dog’s I mean…although my partner’s could be improved too 😂) but we’re working on it and have made sure he’s well socialised so he doesn’t bother anyone who doesn’t want to speak to him. Which doesn’t happen very often to be honest as he’s so bloody cute!

I love dogs. Having a really good dog is such a joy. Its like all the good bits of having children except they actually want to please you.

Rosiesmydog · 16/04/2022 09:16

We lost our beautiful, 16 year old golden retriever Rosie a month ago. Still hurts like hell. She was the best dog in the world. We have Daisy, who’s 20 months and really earns her nicknames of crazy daisy and daisy the destroyer! But she is such a character and we love her to bits. In 3 weeks we will be welcoming a new sister for her!

All such gorgeous dogs.

I have 2 dogs that I absolutely love. I think dogs are much much nicer than most people and, like a another poster, never trust people that say they don't like dogs or, even worse, that they hate them.

My DH had 2 dogs when we met and we have only been without a dog or dogs for 2 years of our 42 year marriage

Mercurial123 · 16/04/2022 09:19

I've always been a cat person BUT am currently in Brighton so many dogs on the beach it's great. Unfortunately, not in a position to get a dog as work too many hours. YANBU.

Mydogisagentleman · 16/04/2022 09:26

YANBU.
My Bedlington is the light of my life. He is as thick as mince but so loving.

I prefer dogs to people. I’ve had big dogs in the past, we’re currently between dogs so I’m fostering for the local rescue and have had the pleasure of sharing our home with two of the cutest little pocket dogs. They don’t really fit our lifestyle but it’s been so nice to have them to stay.

Dogs bring me joy just watching them in the park. Dogs always make the best of any situation Smile

Moonface123 · 16/04/2022 09:26

Of course your right OP, having a dog is the most beautiful love affair.
I no longer respond to the almost every day occurrance on here of dog, cat and everything in between haters, its so boring now. I don't bite the hook.
People who don' t understand dogs are really missing out in my own experiance, and l find people who love complaining about dogs tend to love complaining about everything else as well.Sadly we have become a nation addicted to complaining so what a lovely breath of fresh air this post is.

dizzydizzydizzy · 16/04/2022 09:28

Yep, dogs are amazing. I often bump Into a friend walking her dog and I always tell the dog she is my favourite. She is well trained and gentle with a lovely soft coat.

Trouble is a lot of dog owners are not amazing. I live near a beautiful large park which is a popular dog walking place. I love going there but hardly ever do because every time, I get dogs jumping up, which I don't like at all. It really makes me mad when the owners tell me the dog loves everybody or is only playing or whatever. They should be apologizing because they don't have their pet under control.

Tulipblacksmith · 16/04/2022 09:30

@Kukdoos

Does he put himself under the duvet?

My staffy does it’s hilarious, she’s 15 this year.
Legs are too weak for walks now.

She is the daftest dog I have ever owned, but she is loved very much.

Mydogsbetterthanyours · 16/04/2022 09:34

You are not wrong! My dog is awesome (hence the username!). He has limitless patience, love, compassion, empathy, kindness, gentleness. Who/what else gives so much and asks for so little in return? When we're out walking, he regularly runs off ahead then bounds back to me grinning, ears back, just full of pure joy at the most simple thing of going for a walk!

crepesncream · 16/04/2022 09:35

I love dogs so much. I honestly couldn't be without one. I remember a remark a woman made to me once when I was out walking mine . "Dogs are a gift from God aren't they".......I had to agree.

I love dogs. I love seeing photos of dog.

This is my softy. Snuggling up to a teddy. She thinks she's so big and tough (you should hear her bark at polar bears and lions on tv!) but she can't sleep without a cuddle.

She hates walks, and dog treats, and she won't play fetch. She is literally the world's worst dog and the world's best dog at the same time.

That's the hard part of dog owning, I'm sorry Thanks

Daisy is gorgeous though.

We have a shepweiller, she is an awesome dog. Very intelligent so been a dream to train, much more obedient than our many kids. My only gripe is she costs a small fortune as she has allergies.
