To think dogs are fantastic?

To give a different perspective to the dog hating thread.

We've got a 14 month Doberman.

She's lovely, well trained, I always pick up her poo, great recall.

We are met with a lot of dislike and hate.

Because she's a lockdown puppy, because she is a large bread, because she runs fast, but does not go near people.

We lost our other dog 18 months previously, I initially said never again. But I realised the 14 years joy he gave, made up for the pain of losing him.

Picture for effect.

My puppy (a cocker poodle cross so hated on MN) is 10 months old and completes our family. Just annoyed I didn't take thr plunge in first lockdown.

Shes so lovely. Even when being all yappy. (That is improving thankfully !)

OMG! What are these beauties? Are they related?

A dog does complete a family.

I adore dogs and would give nearly anything to have one. I grew up in a house with three large breeds who were way bigger than me and it felt like I had my own security team.

Once when I was about 10, my older brother and I were walking the dogs. All three off the lead and I had to stop to sort out my shoe or something so I looked like I was on my own. Some weird man approached me and kept trying to offer me a lift home. As soon as the dogs knew I wasn't there, or maybe they heard the worry in my voice, they came pounding over and the guy did one. Honestly, my heroes.

The only reason we don't have one now is we really just can't afford one. We both work full time and out of the house so it wouldn't be fair either.

We're in our 12th year of dog ownership and EVERY second has been a pure joy. There is nothing I love more than walking and spending time with my dog.

@DOBERGOAT they are miniature dachshunds, one long haired, one smooth. Not related, but best of buddies ❤️

This is my 10 year old Weimaraner; also snoozing on my bed right now. Such a big soppy lump…described by all my friends as ‘the pony’ as he is the size of a small pony. He insists he’s a lapdog though!
Dogs are amazing.

Ohhh this thread has made my day already ❤️ dogs really are the best. Those who get it, get it and those who don't are weird.

Here is my wee perfect, cheeky, loving boy.

I love Dobies with natural tails. 😍😍
I'm off to walk a big lurcher for neighbour soon.
No time for our own dog but pleased I get to 'borrow' one a few times/week.

NoWigNoWit · 16/04/2022 08:39

Naaawwwww love these puppies!

We bought our first dog in lockdown too. Very lucky to be able to take him to work ❤️

Meet Frank…

Frank likes to dig holes in the garden, annoy the cat and take up the bed.

Frank also likes to sit on people and lick them.

Be more like Frank.

Frank is like our Dobe, she's a lapdog don't you know! It's not her fault our Laos aren't big enough!

I 💜 Frank!

Lovely pics! I've always avoided anybody who says they hate dogs. What a weird attitude to have. Dogs give more joy than miserable people, with no personality. I mean, you have to have to be soulless to say you hate dogs. As my name suggests, I'm a proud owner of a border collie and a labrador. I just couldn't imagine a world without dogs..people on the other hand ...

Catnuzzle · 16/04/2022 08:44

This is my DDog. Best decision I ever made. Just got back from a long walk and now I'm being snuzzled cos he thinks I'm the best dog mummy ever.

auntieobem awww he is gorgeous, how old is he?

Yes we have a 12month old, she is fabulous. She is the opposite to yours OP she is a little fluff bomb that thinks she is the size of a dobergoat, she has no fear

Here's my lost lockdown puppy. He'd awesome. Typical spaniel: an Exowet mud/water seeking missile, adoring, needy, daft and just the loveliest soul. Amazing with kids, loves everything and everyone.

4 legged joy bringer.

What breed is he @catnuzzle? He looks similar to our boy, who's a rescue from Crete

@WhatdoImean

Dogs are wonderful companions!

I love ours to bits, and she is such a character (not sure the cat would agree... he "puts up" with her :-).

If there is an issue, I think it is that with covid/lockdown etc. there has been a boost in pet ownership by people with less experience, and dogs may not have been socialised or trained well. In my mind, it is never the dogs fault - it is the owner.

Personally, I would support having a dog licence/fee again, but i know if it was ever brought back, the Government would use it as a money making scheme and rather than just make people pause and think about a dog, it would probably turn out to be an annual tax of stupid proportions.

I'll go back to cuddling my dog now ;-)

Absolutely a spot on comment. I’d really like there to be a mandatory basic obedience class for new dog owners. I think the lack of damage and reduced need for council interference would more than pay for the Councils subsidizing it a little bit.

She is absolutely beautiful and I wish you both a long and happy life together.
Did you see that gravestone somebody found in a park?
