To think dogs are fantastic?

To give a different perspective to the dog hating thread.

We've got a 14 month Doberman.

She's lovely, well trained, I always pick up her poo, great recall.

We are met with a lot of dislike and hate.

Because she's a lockdown puppy, because she is a large bread, because she runs fast, but does not go near people.

We lost our other dog 18 months previously, I initially said never again. But I realised the 14 years joy he gave, made up for the pain of losing him.

Picture for effect.

Totally appreciate how great dogs can be for some people, but I can’t stand them. Therefore YABU 😬

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 16/04/2022 09:42

Mine's a little shit. I love him to bits and he's the cutest dog ever (adult westie but looks like a puppy). But he's the most disobedient dog I've ever met. It's not training, he knows full well what the instruction means, he just doesn't give a shit.

Mreggsworth · 16/04/2022 09:43

My dog is amazing.

Big fluflly friendly aussie shepherd, he has sense of compassion more than most people i know, if a human cry's he rests his head on then and cries with them, when my friends toddler fell over in park he ran over to us to notify us, when he sees a big dog playing too rough with a little dog he stands in the middle to make sure it doesnt get hurt (never aggressive). He's friendly to all guests and gets so happy to see people, but also knows that he is too big to get excited around small children so tones it down.

He's very loud and likes to move items around the house but apart from that he's the most loving cuddly fluffer in the world.

I've got a doberman as well and he's just the best. I actually like that people don't like him, it's what he's for, he's not a lap dog and I didn't get him for anybody else's enjoyment.

I said this on the other thread and wasn't well received but I do think there is something off with people who don't like dogs. (Being scared, unsure of them, occasionally annoyed by them is different) but to just dislike dogs just because you don't like them...something definitely off.

All my friends are dog lovers, and I've met some of the nicest people through my dog walks. Majority of people I see on the street seem pleased to see a dog.

I only know of one person who was a receptionist who used to rant about her hatred of dogs, she was a miserable, uptight lady who acted like the world was just set out to inconvenience her.

Came for the photos and was not disappointed! Lovely doggos. The golden retriever puppy was a highlight. Now to go back and actually read the thread….

I have been wanting a Doberman FOREVER but I couldn't offer it the life it would deserve re exercise etc:( you are lucky and she is beautiful!!

DragonOverTheMoon · 16/04/2022 10:33

I love dogs. I would really love to have one. I work more than full-time so it just wouldn't be fair, plus I hate picking up poo and would hate a garden full of it. But in my ideal world I'd live somewhere by the sea being an author with a cute fluffy dog.

Kukdoos · 16/04/2022 10:34

@Tulipblacksmith he does! It's a baby cot duvet. When he gets too hot he'll kick it off - but when he's too cold he'll 'shiver' and make a noise to wake us up so we can cover him back up with the duvet Grin

Labscollie · 16/04/2022 10:35

@1967buglet
Totally agree with you about cats as well. I don't get the hate for any animal.

Buildingthefuture · 16/04/2022 10:40

Loving the Dobergoat Grin I love dogs, all dogs, absolutely adore them. I’m lucky enough to have lots and they are the BEST thing in my life. I adopt mine and tend to go for the harder to home ones…… it’s so rewarding to see a terrified, traumatised dog slowly relax and learn to trust again Smile Cannot imagine a time when I won’t have multiple woofers! Also agree that people who hate dogs are bloody odd. Everyone I’ve ever met who has hated them (not been scared, that’s different) has been….a not nice person…..

Buildingthefuture · 16/04/2022 10:41

@ReeseWitherfork……beautiful and a face you couldn’t say no to!!!!

iloveeverykindofcat · 16/04/2022 10:42

Whilst obviously not as good as cats Wink there is a dog in my life who is....remarkable. He belongs to my mum and lives a couple of streets away so I see him all the time and walk him a lot. He is a multi-generation pedigree tricolour Pembroke corgi and cost an absolute fortune, certainly more than I would personally spend on a pet when so many are in rescued. Is he perfect? No. He's highly strung and 'very dramatic' (to quote a vet). But. Aside from being stunningly handsome, he has genuinely changed my views about animal intelligence. I have never in my life met such an intelligent animal, to the point its really made me think quite deeply about animal rights issues. It can't really be explained without meeting him, but suffice it to say he

  • understands everything in his world
  • knows literally hundreds of words, including verbs and adjectives, and can pick them up without any change in tone/inflection
  • understands whole sentences with word order (take x to y, go to the z, etc)
  • genuinely appears to have a sense of self and other. When we got a second dog, we asked him in ONE DAY 'Where is [name of second dog]' and he went and touched her with his nose
  • knows what happens on different days/times, who comes to the house when, when it is time for anything to happen.

There's more, but you'd have to meet him really. I don't blame you if you don't believe some of this, I wouldn't have believed it myself a couple of years ago. I'm also prepared to think there's probably a huge range in dog intelligence and he just happens to be right at the top. But in short, if you would like to live with a short (not small), bossy, vocal person who happens to exist in the body of a dog, maybe look into a corgi (and save up).

No one can resist our sweet little 18 m old Shih Tzu ! He is the friendliest, funniest , cuddliest little doggo ever ! We’ve just had to leave him for the first time ever while going to see my parents abroad we haven’t seen for 2,5 y and we’re all a bit sad but he seems to be ok with the nice couple he’s boarding with . Can’t wait to hug him again in a few days …

YANBU OP!
Here's my lovely boy. He's an 8yo German shorthaired pointer. A bit clingy (massive daddy's boy), still pulls like a train on the lead, and absolutely psychotic about going to the vet's, but other than that he's perfect Grin.

My absolute favourite thing is when I'm driving along and see someone walking their dog, and the dog keeps looking up at its owner as if to say "god I just LOVE you." Makes my heart happy 😊

Spidey66 · 16/04/2022 10:52

I'm only here for the pics of lovely dogs.

This is my wonderful dog Maggie. She's friendly, affectionate well behaved, funny, quirky (her love of washing machines is legendary), non judgemental, good with children and always pleased to see me. I prefer her to the majority of people, if I'm honest.

This is our 4.5yr old Greek rescue, currently snoozing next to me on the sofa. He's been with us for six months now and has been gradually building his confidence all the time; he has a way to go though! He is the sweetest, loveliest soul - after seven dogless years, he's snuffled his way right into the heart of our family Smile.

I love dogs, and love seeing all your dogs! to those who have lost their friends, it's so hard.

Here's my one year old reprobate. He's a pain in the arse in so many ways, but worth it
