Do you wake sleeping teens or leave them be?

I have two teens and both sleep in past pm if you let them and I was exactly the same. Dh (ex military) thinks they should up, dressed and fed by as soon as we are up. I think they need their sleep and waking a sleeping teen is like like waking sleeping baby! I do however stir them just before 12 so that they can eat at lunch and aren't skipping meals. What do you do?

Let them sleep.

I agree with PP who said there is a difference whith a child's sleep cycle when they become teenagers. My sons CAMHS worker told us Studies have proven they need as much sleep as young children, anywhere upto 10 hours a night. She said sleeping in was healthy as long as they went to bed at a reasonable time and didn't become 'vampires' i.e. awake all night, asleep all day.

As a baby/toddler/child my dd was always up at 5am so now I enjoy the peace and quiet....and not having to go downstairs with her to watch Mr Sodding Tumble at daft o'clock so dh could sleep! Let them sleep I say.

I find it annoying when our teenagers sleep in well after noon when they have been up half the night on social media!! It’s causing a lot of arguments in the house as I feel I am doing everything whilst they laze around ! I agree that this is an unhealthy lifestyle and I am feeling I have lost the battle to be honest !! Will be laughing when they start full time jobs Grin

It’s causing a lot of arguments in the house as I feel I am doing everything whilst they laze around !

But that's got nothing to do with their sleep patterns and everything to do with the way you share out chore in your house.
My dc (young adults now, but obviously were teens not long ago) still do / had to do their share of stuff to contribute to the house, they just do things at times that suit them.

We wake DSS if it gets to lunchtime - otherwise he'd be completely nocturnal and playing videogames through the night, and the house is too small for this not to keep us awake!

Mine wakes by 10.30am. She keeps mad hours during term time with schoolwork and hobbies so I let her sleep in. Teens grow at a ridiculous rate and sleep is a by-product of that.
