To think if you vote Tory now…

You’re effectively propping up this absolute shit show of a government and have no empathy.

I’ll be honest, I’ve voted conservative before as a middle class family their (taxation) policies have suited me more than Labour. I honestly feel ashamed of this and I wish I could’ve seen that the conservatives agenda of ‘levelling up’ is BS.

Regardless of your personal situation, enough is enough now right? People are reliant on food banks, they’re choosing between heating and eating. Austerity has been a total nightmare for society causing the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer.

Johnson and Sunak, the country’s two most senior politicians, broke the very laws they set.

@lifeturnsonadime

Oh indeed women's rights are hugely important, especially to Boris which is why and the Tory governments have spent so long cutting public services some of which are disproportionately used by women.

I'm not sure that the labour party has a better track record.

No woman has ever even led the labour party despite having some strong candidates. There have been 2 conservative women prime ministers.

You are right that Tory cuts will impact women but how under a Labour Government will we know this? If you can't even name women then all services are unisex.

You will no longer be able to site a 'gender' (actually sex) pay gap because women won't exist as a group distinct from males.

I can't stand many of the Tory policies but as a woman the Labour Party is unsafe.

I feel the same.
Mosschopz · 12/04/2022 22:46

It’s only the Tories on this thread who can’t stay civil. Says a lot.

BasiliskStare · 12/04/2022 22:47

Everyone vote for who they choose . I hate tribal politics - have voted both ways - but I do think the current government did do the furlough scheme which benefited many. It has to be paid for - now whether the way they are doing it is good or bad - different debate.

Next time round I will read the manifesto - but I am not in accord with people who say they will never vote Tory or Labour on principle.

jgw1 · 12/04/2022 22:47

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

Oh Lord, the tedious hectoring.
I quite agree that the hectoring that Boris, Sunak and others did from that lectern was utterly tedious, and they were laughing at all of us when they were telling us to stay home and not party.
JC544D · 12/04/2022 22:49

Let's all be honest, given the restrictions some people had to face due to this governments law making during the pandemic, nobody in their right mind could defend them.

I'm not going to go into what some people had to face due to Johnson's rules.

BasiliskStare · 12/04/2022 22:49

& I am not happy with the Labour party's stance at the moment on Women / trans - so they have a bit of catching up to do for me.

You appear to have forgotten that the Labour Party in the main backed the restrictions.

The Conservatives faced more rebellion from it's own back benches than it did from Mr Starmer.

SarahProblem · 12/04/2022 22:52

Oh come on. The failed Covid track and trace, the unused PPE. The lies. The sweetheart deals with tory-linked companies, surging energy prices and cost of living and to cap it off.... Bloody Nadine Dorries!

Boris was only sorry when he was found out and in December said he didn't even go to any gathering. It's the icing on the cake of a shit show. Yes it seems trivial compared to Ukraine but just because covid restrictions are over we should never forget that they partied whilst people died alone in hospitals.

I seriously think Boris could shit on some people's Christmas dinner table they'd say "well he had to go somewhere"

JC544D · 12/04/2022 22:52

Stop trying to defend them. There is no defence, even they know that.

Babdoc · 12/04/2022 22:55

It is not logical to object to Boris having a drink in the garden, safely outside, with the very same people he’s just spent eight hours cooped up in an indoor office with. Would you prefer they’d remained indoors, rebreathing each other’s germs ? Was it the food and drink you object to?
If your family, all living in the same house, had a drink in the garden one evening during lockdown, there is no difference, surely?

Do you have comprehension issues I have posted @ 22.41

*Agree.

The PM has massively taken the piss and ought to resign.

However that doesn't mean that the Labour Party presents a viable alternative.*

CharityShopChic · 12/04/2022 22:58

I broke lockdown rules too. I don't feel even remotely sad/guilty about that.

maddy68 · 12/04/2022 23:00

You would be a massive dick to vote Tory now. Real Tories don't support them his current government. Bring back honest decent Tories that provide a viable alternative to other parties

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/04/2022 23:01

And tbh, I don’t know why people are getting worked up about this again now.

He is the first serving British Prime Minister found to have broken the law.Shock But sure maybe you're right @AlternativePerspective. A PM who broke his own laws and gained a place in history? Nah, nothing to see here.Hmm

19lottie82 · 12/04/2022 23:02

I live in Scotland and I will vote Conservative to attempt to stop the SNP getting in, if I have to.

lifeturnsonadime · 12/04/2022 23:03

a viable alternative

So the viable alternative to this conservative party:

  1. Backed unreasonable lock down laws.
  2. Doesn't know what a woman is.
  3. Doesn't appear to have any real policies on anything. Can anyone actually tell me what they will do if they get into power except from destroy women's rights?
OppsUpsSide · 12/04/2022 23:06

I’ve never voted Tory, unfortunately, at this moment in time, there are no other choices.

MangyInseam · 12/04/2022 23:06

@Hbh17

The whole "partygate" thing is tedious & trivial. If we want to blame the Govt for something, it should be for all the unnecessary Covid rules that were too restrictive & went on for far too long. But at least they have seen the light now, so that improves things a bit. Increased cost of living is an issue for just about every country in Europe, regardless of political persuasion. There may be many reasons to vote for or against the Conservatives at the next election, but these really aren't the ones.
Yeah, I understand why it pisses people off, but it really is neither here nor there in terms of governance. They likely should have had less restrictive rules but I think Labour would probably have been more restrictive.

And the COL issue isn't just Europe. The US, Canada, Australia, NZ, are all in teh same boat, and I am sure elsewhere as well. Potentially Labour might offer different responses to alleviate the pressure but they are not going to be able to solve the problem.

JC544D · 12/04/2022 23:07

Never mind a capable alternative, the Conservative party putting together a capable government after 12 years in power would be nice.

sst1234 · 12/04/2022 23:08

Oh here we go, yet another righteous individual comes along to shame people for voting the way they do. It’s patronizing and people will just roll their eyes at you. You may need another tactic to back your activism.

BitOutOfPractice · 12/04/2022 23:08

“More people vote Tory than don’t.”

Erm, no they don’t. M

And to say Johnson and the Tories are defenders of women’s rights is frankly laughable.

DragonOverTheMoon · 12/04/2022 23:09

I don't vote Tory but to say they don't care about womens rights isn't true. Two women PMs and May did good with Domestic Violence. I can't recall off the top of my head all that she did with that bill but I remember it being good.

My family are all die hard labour, I work in a role where I see the impact of austerity. I wouldn't vote labour at the next election. I care about my sex based rights. It's not transphobic to want biological women only in women prisons ect ect.

Quackpot · 12/04/2022 23:10

They're utter shite but at least Boris knows what a woman is, more than can be said for the opposition.

BitOutOfPractice · 12/04/2022 23:10

@lifeturnsonadime all of the people who “don’t know what a woman is” are doing so right now, under a Tory government.
