To think if you vote Tory now…

You’re effectively propping up this absolute shit show of a government and have no empathy.

I’ll be honest, I’ve voted conservative before as a middle class family their (taxation) policies have suited me more than Labour. I honestly feel ashamed of this and I wish I could’ve seen that the conservatives agenda of ‘levelling up’ is BS.

Regardless of your personal situation, enough is enough now right? People are reliant on food banks, they’re choosing between heating and eating. Austerity has been a total nightmare for society causing the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer.

The whole "partygate" thing is tedious & trivial. If we want to blame the Govt for something, it should be for all the unnecessary Covid rules that were too restrictive & went on for far too long. But at least they have seen the light now, so that improves things a bit.
Increased cost of living is an issue for just about every country in Europe, regardless of political persuasion.
There may be many reasons to vote for or against the Conservatives at the next election, but these really aren't the ones.

I quite agree, it is utterly trivial that the Prime Minister broke the law in his office in Downing Street, whilst forbidding millions of children from enjoying birthday parties with their friends.
Willyoujustbequiet · 12/04/2022 22:27

I'm ashamed to say I voted conservative in my early twenties when I was stupid and selfish....hopefully I've matured and am capable of looking beyond my own needs now at the greater good.
The die hard tories I know in real just aren't nice people, incredibly entitled and have no insight or awareness. Fortunately virtually all of those who switched to conservative at the last election are absolutely horrified by the corrupt shitshow this has turned out to be so the tide has definitely turned. Cant happen soon enough.

Chloemol · 12/04/2022 22:27

I vote for the MP that will work for what I want

If that’s conservative so be it

lifeturnsonadime · 12/04/2022 22:28

Oh indeed women's rights are hugely important, especially to Boris which is why and the Tory governments have spent so long cutting public services some of which are disproportionately used by women.

I'm not sure that the labour party has a better track record.

No woman has ever even led the labour party despite having some strong candidates. There have been 2 conservative women prime ministers.

You are right that Tory cuts will impact women but how under a Labour Government will we know this? If you can't even name women then all services are unisex.

You will no longer be able to site a 'gender' (actually sex) pay gap because women won't exist as a group distinct from males.

I can't stand many of the Tory policies but as a woman the Labour Party is unsafe.

Must be a very different kind of Conservative MP to the one in this area who works almost exclusively for his paymasters in Riyadh and Moscos.
lioncitygirl · 12/04/2022 22:30

Because labour is the better choice?! 😂. Yes, no thank you.

Dampclout · 12/04/2022 22:30

A non event for me. Boris is a great Prime Minister.

roarfeckingroarr · 12/04/2022 22:31

I'll be voting Conservative in May. I feel no shame.

Hotcuppatea · 12/04/2022 22:31

I'm not voting Labour again until they remember what a woman is. Just not doing it.

MarshaBradyo · 12/04/2022 22:31

@HermioneWeasley

What’s the alternative? Vote Labour and have womens rights chucked in the bin?

I think the current government ar with most lazy, incompetent and corrupt we’ve had for many decades, but I don’t actually think Labour would be more effective, they’d just be crap in different ways AND we’d lose womens rights,

Yep could be
FOJN · 12/04/2022 22:32

I've never voted conservative but I've never tried to guilt or shame conservative voters either.

I voted for the LibDems in the 90's when they said they would increase taxation because I think raising money to fund public services is a good idea. Having enjoyed the lower level of taxation you voted for you've found the threshold for changing your vote is people not being able to afford heating or food. You may feel ashamed of that but I don't think you should try to pass that shame onto others.

This government promised levelling up and won the election in 2019, within a few months the country was dealing with a pandemic, we're only just coming out of it now and are dealing with residual supply chain issues, the conflict in Ukraine and its consequences. I have many criticisms of the conservative party and their performance but, given everything that has happened over the last two years, failing to deliver on their election promises isn't one of them, even though I think levelling up is urgently needed.

I have no idea what you hoped to achieve from this thread.

knowinglesseveryday · 12/04/2022 22:33

The notion that the Tories stand for woman's right is utterly farcical.

lifeturnsonadime · 12/04/2022 22:33

I think this thread is astonishing. No one has learnt from Brexit that assuming a faux moral high ground puts the electorate off rather than encourages their vote.

Party Gate is a scandal. But the likes of Starmer, Lammy and Raynor are telling massive lies when they say that being a woman includes people who are not human females.

They deserve what they get when they fail to oust the Conservatives despite the fiascos of the last few years.

lifeturnsonadime · 12/04/2022 22:36

@knowinglesseveryday

No one has said they do.

Do you think that a party that doesn't know what a woman is can act in the best interests of women?

Thats' the Labour Party.

If women are displeased by this and won't vote for them as a result that's on Labour and has nothing to do with the Tory track record on women's rights.

hamstersarse · 12/04/2022 22:36

It’s all manufactured outrage that I can’t get fired up about

Dominic Cummings started all of this which just makes it all a shit storm of vendettas and revenge

Also, I’ve never in my 47 years been to a party that lasts 11 minutes

Girlmumdogmumboymum · 12/04/2022 22:36

Enough is enough, and I have spoken with DH about this at length. Hes always voted Tory, I voted Labour because I believed that Labour would protect the most vulnerable in society, mainly through a robust benefit system that's been absolutely ravaged by Tory reform.

I would say in certain ways the pandemic shone a very negative light on the Tory party, but who can wholeheartedly say that we would be in a different position if Labour were in control?

Where is labour's protection of womens rights? There have been atleast two high profile murders of women, in sexually motivated attacks in the past 2 years, now is not the time for any political party to be agreeing that people with penises can invade womens spaces.

The way I see it is, the state of politics in this country is a fucking disgrace, and there is not aajpr political party that I'd feel safe, or morally right placing my vote with.

duvetdrama · 12/04/2022 22:40

I don't like the 'they're all as bad as each other' argument...that's not the point. The PM broke the law when everyone else was following them. In my opinion there is no way of arguing out of that...he is not fit for the job as to be fit for the job you need to lead by example. Sure, every leader will make mistakes but repeated lies and rule breaking is not a one off slip up. It's completely unacceptable and immoral. One of his chums said today that the PM was just doing what nurses and teachers would have been doing after a long week at work...actually, no we weren't and how dare they put it back on us, the people following their rules.

Onthedowns · 12/04/2022 22:40

He broke the Law yes law. Laws that his advisors wrote. He lied to Parliament. Sunak is took 3 hours to mutter an apology.

Worst kind of people showing utter contempt and disregard for their country at the worst moment in history since the wars.

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 12/04/2022 22:41

@SpringHasSprungYay

Frankly I would negatively judge anyone who votes Tory. Always have.
Yup me too, and I am always proved correct as they tend to be selfish with not a care for people who are struggling. How they can justify voting Tory now, with Brexit and the general embarrassing shitshow is beyond me. Greed is not fucking good!
Neverreturntoathread · 12/04/2022 22:41

@GeneLovesJezebel

There were many people breaking the rules where I live. And, shock horror, I walked my dog twice a day in lockdown. I’m not saying what they did was ok, but if Labour were in charge now it would be stuff they did wrong in the news. They are all as bad as each other.
This is such a myth. Several former Prime Ministers, including John Major, have commented on how unusually appalling this current government is. That this administration drink so heavily at work may go some way to explaining their chaos and incompetence 🧐

I miss Theresa May. I saw Theresa, in the House of Commons sitting there with her face mask on, even when no one else on her side was wearing one. If Theresa May had walked into a boozy party at work do you really think she’d have thanked everyone and joined in? No way. She’d have pleasantly reminded them of the rules and broken up the event.

They aren’t all as bad as each other. And the problem isn’t with the conservative party as a whole, it’s very specifically with Boris Johson and his band of incompetents.

Either Boris Johnson goes soon, or the conservatives lose the next election. People have had enough.

Agree.

The PM has massively taken the piss and ought to resign.

However that doesn't mean that the Labour Party presents a viable alternative.

Onthedowns · 12/04/2022 22:42

No manufactured outrage from people who couldn't be with their loved ones who were dying either. I work for the police we weren't having drinks after shift or meetings in rest rooms like his chum suggested

Totally agree. Nurses and teachers were not drinking at work during lockdown and it’s an extremely insulting lie to say they were.
