I've been getting grey hairs since I was 21, If I don't dye it my hair will still be uniform dark but with a few noticeable greys. Always thought this was very young to get them, just interested to hear others' experiences

1st one at 13, brunette so it really stood out. 37 now and embracing my rather white barnet, been growing it out for 18mth and almost rid of all the dyed bits.

Sweetmayday · 11/04/2022 13:01

I'm 49 and have the odd few that I pluck but otherwise my hair is still dark brown. I used to dye it because I loved the shine but gave up 3 years ago.

RomansTheyGoTheHouse · 11/04/2022 13:05

Two years ago - at 40.

There were no grey hairs and then, suddenly, there were dozens.

Msmarbles21 · 11/04/2022 13:07

Pushing 70 and still only a few white hairs at the temple.Redheads ruleGrin

Crackersnack · 11/04/2022 13:07

Also at 40 but it seems to be a relatively slow process. Based on my mum I expect to be fully grey at 60

Sebastianthecoo · 11/04/2022 13:08
  1. Totally grey now at 38 and don’t dye it, just use a toner to keep it all the same dark silver. Hairdresser found one in DD hair when she was 6. Dad was totally grey at 20 so definitely hereditary here.
PutinIsAWarCriminal · 11/04/2022 13:08

Odd greys, but nothing noticeable till 45, even now I just have a few highlights put in to blend it out. I'm dark blond.

BunsyGirl · 11/04/2022 13:09

Early 40’s but just the odd grey hair. I’m now 46 and have just had my hair dyed for the first time - she literally just touched in the sprinkle of grey in my parting and on my temples.

TheDuchessOfMN · 11/04/2022 13:10

I noticed one or two at aged 30.

I was all grey at the temples at age 36.

Norgie · 11/04/2022 13:10

53, but my hair is naturally blonde so not really noticeable.

CrowAndABut · 11/04/2022 13:13

At 17, to counter balance, I still don't have wrinkles aged 52.

elQuintoConyo · 11/04/2022 13:13
  1. I stopped dying it at 36. I'm 80-85% white, darker underneath (my hair, not curtains-carpet type thing!).

47 now and quite glad I both went grey early and stopped dying it years ago, as I think if it all started now I'd feel old. Cos I haven't dyed it for years, I feel rebellious. In my teens/20s my hair was very long and has been pink, green, blue, purple, black and red at various stages.

Luckily my white hair is beautiful - first time in my life I have been vain about my hair! But I get how 'embrace the grey' isn't for everyone.

@chely I thought I was going to win by saying 13! Wink It was plucked out and stuck in my diary for the year! I have black hair so it was very obvious. Pulled out the first one and a few after but they seemed to multiply so then trimmed individual hairs to the scalp. Permanent dye at home from the age of 21, now a 3 weekly visit to the hairdresser for colour. I can’t carry off the grey/white look at all. I tried over pandemic and it was not a pretty sight. I looked like a batty badger or cow as the grey/white is in patches in between still jet black Confused

Travelswithchildren · 11/04/2022 13:21

Found a couple of grey hairs at 21. Somewhere between 36 and 37 it went from "a few" to noticeable - lockdown actually turned my hair grey. I have really dark hair so though it's still less than 50% grey I've started to dye it because the greys really stand out. My natural colour has suddenly faded too - it had a lovely coppery tone to it and now it's a dull dark brown.

merryhouse · 11/04/2022 13:22

Forty-something. 47? I'm 52 now and have a fair bit of white in my fringe, but the back's still pretty red.

My mum was completely white by the time she was 45. Interestingly, an old photo suggests that her mum was still quite red in her late 50s. I'm wondering whether it was the war childhood, the 70s midulthood or a mixture of the two!

MargaretFromAccts · 11/04/2022 13:25

19 It looks like I've intentionally gone for silver money pieces as its the same section each side (a couple round the back I don't care about) dying is so much effort

notangelinajolie · 11/04/2022 13:25

I found my first grey hair when 13 in a French lesson. Or rather my friend did and proceeded to pull it out. It wasn't a good day for me - double detention and going grey Wink

TrashyPanda · 11/04/2022 13:26

Getting towards 60 and have about 20 white hairs in total.
That’s pretty normal for the maternal side of my family.

ScreamingMeMe · 11/04/2022 13:29

23 ish.

Pommelegible · 11/04/2022 13:32

Noticed first greys at 19
First pregnancy at 24 made a lot more appear
By 35 I had a lot of grey

My son is 14 and we noticed a grey hair on him last year

Prettybubblesintheair · 11/04/2022 13:34

I’ve had my first couple in the last month or so at 34.

I am early 50s and have the odd grey hair but otherwise still have a full head of brown hair, it's genetics, mum and dad had hardly any grey even in their 70s ... most of my friends spend a fortune on hair dyeing so feel lucky to be spared that (so far)

maddening · 11/04/2022 13:41

I am 44 and have 1 grey hair, but I only find it occasionally in the right light.
