I've been getting grey hairs since I was 21, If I don't dye it my hair will still be uniform dark but with a few noticeable greys. Always thought this was very young to get them, just interested to hear others' experiences

First grey hair at 27.
At a level where I regularly need to dye my hair to cover it...about 34/35.

Heronatemygoldfish · 11/04/2022 12:11

First grey hair noticed at 46 though I still don't have many a decade later. Not enough to dye, at any rate!

My mum was only 50:50 when she was in her mid-80s so I figure I'll never completely lose my colour.

Early 30s. Now I'm totally grey at 54.

hellosunshineagainx · 11/04/2022 12:15

In my 30s none so far and same for my sisters. My mum is in her 60s and has none so I think it must be genetics? My dad has loads though so who knows!

ShinyPikachu · 11/04/2022 12:15

21 and more grey than anything now at 40.

Proudboomer · 11/04/2022 12:16

Mid 30’s. Never bothered to dye it and now in my 50’s I am about 75% grey. I am hoping it goes white like my mums.

MedusasBadHairDay · 11/04/2022 12:19

Late 30s, only a couple of grey hairs though. Only noticeable if you are looking for them.

Interested to see if I rapidly get more, or if that's it. One side of my family went grey early, the other side start to go grey really late (nan only had a few grey hairs at the temples when she died in her 80s)

incognitoforthisone · 11/04/2022 12:21

Started to get a few grey hairs about two years ago, in my mid-40s, but I still only have a few. I am noticing more, so I'm sure I'll be getting greyer and greyer from this point onwards, but at the moment it's really still just the odd one here and there, and they're pretty evenly dispersed.

It's not at all unusual to get grey hairs in your 20s, though. My DP and his dad both had fully grey hair by the age of about 30ish I think, and a school friend of mine started getting grey hairs when she was 17 or 18.

incognitoforthisone · 11/04/2022 12:23

I think it is. My mum's side of the family seem to go more grey, and more quickly, than my dad's side. My dad's hair is still only really peppered with grey and he's in his late 70s, and his dad was much the same, as is his brother.

Madre123 · 11/04/2022 12:27

17...50's now

purplecorkheart · 11/04/2022 12:29

Saw my first white hair rather than grey on my 22nd birthday. Would be totally white now if I did not colour it.

CMOTDibbler · 11/04/2022 12:32
  1. By 28 semi and demi permanent dyes didn't cover my streak up and I had to go to permanent. At 38 I was bored with dyeing and grew it out to be grey. Now I'm 49 and mostly white. My maternal line all have a big grey streak very early
twilightcafe · 11/04/2022 12:33

Little Mallen streak at the front of my hair in my early 40s. Now almost 50 and random grey strands are popping up all over my head.

WellTidy · 11/04/2022 12:33

A friend was entirely grey by the time she left university at 21yo.

Am 50 and have a few silver ones threaded among the brown. The only thing that throws me is how wiry they are compared to the brown ones!

19 during my first pregnancy, im in my 40s now I was naturally very dark but dye it blonde now or my roots would be horrendous.

Blossomtoes · 11/04/2022 12:37
  1. Wide white streak at the front by 30.
thewhatsit · 11/04/2022 12:38

Early 30s.

I think a lot of people go grey earlier than we think. Lockdowns definitely opened my eyes into how many relatively young people dye their hair.

brokengoalposts · 11/04/2022 12:43

Around 30. Dh is 50 with very little grey, he was actually glad to get those few greys at the temple as it proves he doesn't die it, which everyone assumed he did. I hate him 😂

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 11/04/2022 12:46

In my 50s, ginger and no grey still. Got a stubborn one on my eyebrow though!

Abymol · 11/04/2022 12:47

I started going grey at 18 so did my sister. I’m very grey now at 38 and have died my hair for years. My sister is 10 years older than me and decided to go natural although her hair is a solid colour so it looks great not like my salt and pepper hair.

GodspeedJune · 11/04/2022 12:55

Early thirties and none yet. My DDad is mid sixties and has a tiny bit of a grey in his temples, otherwise still a full head of colour. Would love to have his genes as I find dying hair a faff but doubt I’ll be so lucky!
