@Auntieobem

Me too. Not a comfortable place to be in.

Thing is, like the little boy calling out the emperor, once enough people say it we can all say it. Once a few people sail around the world and comes back without falling off the edge, we all can.

Maybe even labour.

BellatrixOnABadDay · 06/04/2022 18:44

I said this on another thread but I actually believe today was a rare occasion where he actually told the truth.

Yes I believe the tories are going to capitalise on labour's cowardice and betrayal of women and children but I do still think those were his genuine opinions today.

AnybodyAnywhere · 06/04/2022 18:45

Wondering when the rape threats and calls for ‘cancelling’ will begin…if they haven’t already, I admit I haven’t looked…

SevenWaystoLeave · 06/04/2022 18:45

I mean, this is Boris - he has flip-flopped back and forth on LGBT issues his entire term, he's done three u-turns on LGBT issues already this week, next week he'll probably be saying something entirely different and contradictory.

Lockheart · 06/04/2022 18:46

@Blossomtoes

I don't believe he's saying it just to appeal to the MN vote

He’s doing it to appeal to the feminist vote. It’s so bloody transparent and I despair when I see women falling for it. This feminist isn’t for turning Tory.

Yep. It's all very well to say "Labour hate women" but the Tories:
  • are the ones who have as their leader a man who is a serial cheat and who abandons his children
  • said leader then calls single mothers "feckless" in national newspapers
  • are the party whose UC and other recent policies have driven food bank use through the roof, a hardship that disproportionately affects women
  • are the party who brought in austerity, 86% of which women bear the burden of

If you think Labour hate women and the Tories don't then you're not looking closely enough.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/04/2022 18:46

The cynic in me says it’s because they know it’s the only way they can win the next election

With the May elections coming up, I suspect it's more about those for now

Of course he's right on this one, but it'll only help him in a general election if real action follows - and if it does, Labour will probably implode

LexMitior · 06/04/2022 18:47

Oh for god's sake - he agrees with lots of women who are more fair minded and far sighted than him. He's literally had this written on a bit of paper for him to say - don't give him credit. Give yourselves credit and note just how long it took for a man in power to say the damn obvious.

And will he actually do anything? Because that's what a useful politician does, not just a headline grabber.

Supersee · 06/04/2022 18:47

It's a sad day when we're all flocking to the net (me included!) to say we agree with the bafoon that is Boris, when all he's doing is stating biological fact and downright common sense.

I have to pinch myself that we're even having this debate. That people are being cancelled, losing their jobs and getting screamed at for being transphobes for stating the obvious.

It's like I'm in a parallel universe.

Polyanthus2 · 06/04/2022 18:47

Oh well, looks like I'm voting Tory after all.

RealRaymondReddington · 06/04/2022 18:49

Do any of you really believe he means or will stand by it though? I don't. The man is a liar and just says whatever he thinks will make him popular.

Westchesterarms · 06/04/2022 18:49

Why are posters on here sneering at Johnson for saying this? Are you that worried about Labour's chances at the next GE? A politician comes out for saying something that many people already believe and immediately he's denigrated for it. Why is it not possible to agree with something said by someone you don't like? Even if you don't agree with him, it's not an unreasonable opinion to hold. I just don't get the personal attacks for quite a generally held view. If you think personal attacks are acceptable, why don't you save them for the politicians that hold the alternative view?

RealRaymondReddington · 06/04/2022 18:50

Also, my vote is not bought so easily from the mouth of a proven and consistent liar.

Annette32123 · 06/04/2022 18:51

@Dogknowsbest

I partly agree with him. Definitely no men in female sports.

Having spent time in family changing rooms with small kids and half naked men around, I'm not sure I understand why women get hung up on "maintaining female only spaces". I'm sure any transgender person would be feeling equally vulnerable if not more. And more to the point, where should they be changing if the only option is binary?. As women, I feel we should be sympathetic to transgender people.

Perhaps you should be as kind to women as you are you men who want to be women. And perhaps consider that you are lucky not to know why it’s important.

Talk about tone deaf.

This.

And will he actually do anything? Because that's what a useful politician does, not just a headline grabber.

But isn't it more likely that he will do something than Starmer who refuses to even read the piece of paper?

Talk is very cheap. He's the PM. Not a spectator, so what's he actually going to do?
Mumoblue · 06/04/2022 18:52

If you believe anything Boris says I’ve got a fucking bridge to sell you.

JaneJeffer · 06/04/2022 18:52

I agree with the stupid fucker too.

I've said for a long time that transgender issues are like the emperor's new clothes

All in favour of people living their best life, but my Mum would hate to be in a hospital bed next to someone with a penis. It does feel like TW's need for validation takes priority over other women's concerns about dignity and privacy

balalake · 06/04/2022 18:54

Mr Johnson may have said something, to try and distract from press coverage about the NI increase which takes effect today. I don't believe for one second he will actually do something to back up what he said today.

LexMitior · 06/04/2022 18:54

Boris Johnson is the PM. He can actually do stuff beyond looking like a party guest that occasionally says something sensible.

Kier Starmer is the leader of the opposition and utterly powerless. If Johnson put any part of this amazingly obvious position into law KS would be stuffed.

Action, not words. Can't believe people so impressed with the bloody obvious.

Florenz · 06/04/2022 18:54

What is wrong with a politician chasing votes?

Picklepopsalot · 06/04/2022 18:55

The rights of women and girls are hugely important, but for me the rights of all children top this and the conservatives / Boris just don't care. He'd back the rights of hamsters if he thought it would get him a vote.

FortniteBoysMum · 06/04/2022 18:57

Totally agree. When it comes to sport genetics based on gender give male born athletes an advantage on most sports. Also some spaces should be womens only. If things like toilets are an issue then there should be three options everywhere male, female and unisex, cubicles only in unisex.
