To be finished with voting Tory

Viviennemary · 03/04/2022 16:47

I've voted Tory in the last couple of elections. Didn't like Corbyn and thought Keir Stammer was a bit feeble. But after that smug performance by Sunak I am totally not going to vote Tory for a very long time. We are now in a position not to be affected too much by recent rises. Not always been that way of course. I wonder if others are feeling the same. But the lack of any sort of help for less well off people makes me absolutely sick. And all decided by a multi millionaire.

Or injured going over a pothole (yes I know it's the local authorities, but underfunding).

In fact I think societal collapse is more likely to happen under labour. They will spend too much money and we will end up like Greece.

Unlike the absolute mess that the Tories have done to the economy, the police, poverty, schools, NHS, all the while lining their and their mates pockets with pure corruption. Anyone that votes for the Tories are either stupid or very rich and selfish.

Alexandra2001 · 19/04/2023 12:59

@Emotionalstorm Impoverish him? How? Cause great friction? wtf!!!

Do you know we now have the highest taxes in 75 years? with workers experiencing the largest fall in living standards since the 1970s.

However, if you discuss these things and it would affect your marriage, then fair enough, its a shame your husband wont respect your choice and he controls you so much.

Abhannmor · 19/04/2023 13:44

Like societal collapse isn't happening now.

Mind you , Labour is partly responsible. Gordon Brown promised to shut down the tax havens in British Crown dependencies , which is about 90 % of them.
That was when he was still in Opposition. Nothing happened when he took office. According to tax expert Nicholas Shaxon there is $ 18 trillion lying in offshore accounts. Probably a lot more as his book , Treasure Islands , is about ten years old now.

$18 trillion ....you could fill a lot of potholes.

Blossomtoes · 19/04/2023 13:52

I had no idea. $18 trillion. I can’t even get my head round a number that big.

Soapnutty · 19/04/2023 13:58

I judge the Tories on their record: austerity, Brexit, Windrush, food banks, Universal Credit, bedroom tax, hungry kids, Grenfell, Rwanda, fracking, partygate, Trussonomics, double-digit inflation, mass homelessness, the cost of living crisis, sewage in our rivers and record NHS waiting lists due to massive underfunding between 2010-2019, particularly estate and repairs. Rank dishonesty. Practically legalised rape, schools estates repair bills off the scale, more in danger of collapse. Same for the court estate. Roads in a bad state. Reduced tax on inland flights, exorbitant train fares and rubbish services.

Well I dare say a lot of that money belongs to the taxpayers of other jurisdictions.

But , if even $ 1 trillion of it is British , that's lot of money. How can politicians sit there with a straight face and say things like :
' Of course we'd all like to spend more on schools and hospitals but there simply isn't enough in the kitty.'

Dotjones · 19/04/2023 14:29

YANBU, but if you don't want things "decided by a multi millionaire" then that rules Labour and the Lib Dems out too.

Emotionalstorm · 19/04/2023 20:31

Blossomtoes · 19/04/2023 12:27

Where did that ambulance take you? Because it wouldn’t be given the time of day at my local A&E.

And the Tories are playing games with women’s right, self ID was their idea.

It took me to A and E and I was seen within 7 hours. The local hospitals can't tell the difference. The NHS sold their fleets of ambulances years ago and they pay the same private providers I used to pick up patients. So it's the same vehicle, the same paramedics and the same equipment. At least this was what the paramedic told me. Except they arrived within 10 minutes whereas if I called 999 it could have been 10 hours.

It will cause immense friction in our marriage if I vote for a party that impoverishes him.

You do know it’s a secret ballot? He’s not going to be “impoverished”, is he? I’ve read your posts and you’re pretty well off, you’re not going to be on the streets if we have a government that spreads wealth a little more equitably.

My husband's net pay should increased as a result of the last budget whereas there is a high chance it would decrease under labour is what I mean.

My husband expects me to vote in a way that doesn't make his life more difficult. He would be very annoyed if I did otherwise. I do understand that. Coupled with the fact that I don't think voting labour would fix the NHS, broken education system or bring our Gini coefficient I just don't feel that motivated to do otherwise.

YANBU, but if you don't want things "decided by a multi millionaire" then that rules Labour and the Lib Dems out too.

The fact is, under a proportional voting system a vote that is not for labour or the conservatives is a vote wasted. Until we have proportional representation, I only really have two choices.

Kendodd · 19/04/2023 20:43

For those saying the Tories are the only party standing up for women's rights or other such nonsense, check out the Communist Party's statement - Gender as an ideological construct should not be confused or conflated with the material reality of biological sex. Gender is the vehicle through which misogyny is enacted and normalised.

AgnesX · 19/04/2023 20:44

It took you until now? Better late than never.

Blossomtoes · 19/04/2023 20:52

I don’t understand the last one but could Labour make the NHS or education any worse? Both improved immeasurably in their last term.

I really cannot get my head round anyone voting the way their husband tells them. That was one of the reasons given for opposing votes for women - that essentially it would be giving married men two votes. Woman up, vote the way YOU want to.

pointythings · 19/04/2023 21:22

@Emotionalstorm your and your husband own two houses in London! Methinks you can spare a little compassion for others.

As for voting the way your husband wants you to - that is just weak and pathetic.

Moodlesofnoodles · 19/04/2023 22:10

In its own way, your life sounds pretty grim, @Emotionalstorm .

It does, doesn't it.
I don't think the love of money can ever bring happiness, I'm not religious, but the bible was very wise on that one. I think theres even research saying as much, that beyond basic needs, money adds little. Obviously without basic needs being secure, misery results, unfortunately this is the situation for so very many, and growing numbers, in the country. All so a tiny number at the top can have so much, that won't even add anything to their happiness.

Mummysatthebodyshop · 20/04/2023 08:31

Pixiedust1234 · 03/04/2022 17:13

I've never voted tory but right now they are the only party that knows what a woman is biologically. Since rapists are being put into womens prisons and womens hospital wards now is the time to say #nothankyou, not #bekind. Its shit tbh

Hate to break it to you but all the rights trans have got the past few years have been with... A TORY GOVERNMENT

Kendodd · 20/04/2023 08:38

When I look at my own children, one of them has completely swallowed the consumerist dream, the other two haven't. So one has got a room full of shit she doesn't need from Home Bargains, the other two don't. She's no happier than the other two, she's just tripping over crap in her bedroom thinking about what to buy next, that she 'needs' and the other two are not.

Kendodd · 20/04/2023 10:40

Emotionalstorm · 19/04/2023 12:21

I think the conservatives are better at matters to do with womens rights and I booked a private ambulance when I needed one last year (they cost £450 per trip).

Can I ask about the private ambulance if you don't mind.
Did they blue light you or blue light to get to you? I'm curious as to how that works. So if I was a medic, could I just buy myself an old ambulance and set up my own private ambulance service allowing me to use blue lights to overrule normal traffic laws? I don't expect you to know the answer to this, but somebody else might.

LexMitior · 20/04/2023 10:53

@Kendodd - you are right. I do not think it is well regulated. Private ambulances are a thing. They do not necessarily need to be at NHS spec either. I see a lot of them in London, and they do not blue light (because they do not have the authority).

Blossomtoes · 20/04/2023 10:56

They seem to be taxis with a bed from the very little Google reveals. There’s no suggestion that they’re for hire for emergency transport.

IOnlycreatedaccountforthispost · 20/04/2023 18:18

Just because someone has a different view point doesn’t give you the right to be bully them.
At the end if the day the decisions people make in life (including which party to vote for) are lead by what benefits you (and yours) the most, I don’t for one minute believe anyone votes for purely altruistic reasons although I’m sure you’ll delight in telling me otherwise.

Moodlesofnoodles · 20/04/2023 18:55

The obsession with more money for the extremely rich at the expense of everything and everyone else is what's destroying this country.
