To be finished with voting Tory

Viviennemary · 03/04/2022 16:47

I've voted Tory in the last couple of elections. Didn't like Corbyn and thought Keir Stammer was a bit feeble. But after that smug performance by Sunak I am totally not going to vote Tory for a very long time. We are now in a position not to be affected too much by recent rises. Not always been that way of course. I wonder if others are feeling the same. But the lack of any sort of help for less well off people makes me absolutely sick. And all decided by a multi millionaire.

@Xenia

I don't agree the country has moved to the right. The current Tories have moved to the left and centre ground which is why they were elected - high spending, massive state, magic money tree discovered.

As for calling people" scum" is that allowed on Mumsnet? Would I be allowed to call Labour "scum" if Labour voters are allowed to call Tories "scum"?

We have been moving ever further right since Thatcher smashed up the post war consensus and destroyed the trade unions and manufacturing jobs.
MadnessOfHamsters · 05/04/2022 08:46

@longwayoff of course you are not, interesting that you view a disabled person expressing an opinion as some sort of invitation to a ‘who is more disabled’ competition. If you happen to be ‘more’ disabled than me would that make your condescending comment ok, or you automatically have any kind of point? Hmm

Fairislefandango · 05/04/2022 08:53

I'll be spoiling my ballot paper.
Yes, the Tories are liars and yes I agree that Boris Johnson would say anything to be popular. But at the other extreme we have Labour, who are no doubt also liars but don't appear to even be bright enough to say the right things to be popular - i.e. they seem to actively discourage people from voting for them, and persist with policies and views which clearly do not represent the will of their potential voters.

I voted Lib Dem in the last elections, as I Iive in the closest thing to a safe Lib Dem seat, with a popular and ostensibly likeable MP, but they don't know what a woman is either, so they aren't getting my vote.

@knittingaddict

ONE comment by Raynor, apologised for..... compared to the vitriol Diane Abbott gets from the press, from TV, from MPs and so called ordinary voters.
Jess Phillips with panic and police alarms, Raynor has received terrible abuse and threats.

Yes all women in Parliament get abuse but the vast majority of it heads Labours way.

I'm not talking about Labour politicians, I'm talking about ordinary Labour voters on here. "Scum" is an example. Other nasty terms are available.

VerityPJohnson · 05/04/2022 09:26

The Conservatives have always been quite clear on their values. The ‘nanny state’ is bad and left to their own devices everyone can make something of themselves without lots of state support. A dreamy vision which assumes everyone is starting out from the same place. It results in individualism over society and vast inequalities, eg better off people will go for private treatment where they can.

This underpins everything they do, and is why Covid was such an existential challenge. I also think Conservatives are more likely to be in it for the power for its own sake, someone like Sunak already has all the money he could ever need.

This is not new news though.

Alisae · 06/04/2022 15:32

Well…have got to say that after Boris Johnson’s statement today, I am actually going to voting Tory! (Unless a miracle happens and Labour suddenly remember how to act like grownups instead of just repeating brainless mantras)

Blossomtoes · 06/04/2022 16:11

What’s he said today @Alisae?

Sorry, I can’t be arsed to go and look.

Fairislefandango · 06/04/2022 16:13

What’s he said today@Alisae?

That male-bodied people (i.e. men) should not be allowed to participate in women's sports and that it is important to keep women's spaces female.

Yeah, because its not like Boris ever lies and just says what he needs to do to stay in power, is it?

Cant wait for my NI hike he swore we would never get coming in this month.

Horst · 06/04/2022 16:18

I’ll vote for which ever party knows what a women is and wants to protect our sports and spaces so Tory I guess.

Blossomtoes · 06/04/2022 16:20

Oh God, he’s spouting more stuff he doesn’t believe to get the feminist vote, is he?

Completely agree @Butteryflakycrust83, the second it’s expedient he’ll do yet another U turn. I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could spit him.

Honeymint · 06/04/2022 16:21

YANBU the current government is absolutely diabolical.

I’ve voted Tory in the past, but after the last ten years or so I don’t think I could do it again, not for a very long time at least.

It seems to me that the longer they stay in power, the more radical they become. Every decision has been a disaster, benefitting only themselves. Every scandal has been denied, every service has been squeezed.

I wasn’t a fan of Corbyn and in an ideal world I’d probably vote Libdem. But Starmer seems reasonable enough and Labour are the only party that really has any hope of throwing these clowns out, so I’ll be voting Labour this time around.

Alisae · 06/04/2022 16:24

Yeah, because its not like Boris ever lies and just says what he needs to do to stay in power, is it?

And Keir is telling the truth when he says that he believes transwomen are women? The fact is it doesn’t matter whether either of them is lying or not.

One is completely for self-ID and repeating batshit slogans. The other is starting hard reverse on the gender ideology take over and has clearly spotted that pissing off 51% of the population is a stupid idea.

Like it or not, for some the next election will absolutely be decided on a single issue.

Do you prefer Labour’s self ID take?
Blossomtoes · 06/04/2022 16:51

Do you prefer Labour’s self ID take?

I prefer a government that doesn’t lie, give vast quantities of taxpayers’ money to its mates, that doesn’t tax poor people to give the money to the rich, that cares about child poverty and cold pensioners. And those things matter more to me.

MadnessOfHamsters · 06/04/2022 17:02

@Blossomtoes it matters to me that those poor children are not sterilised/have decades taken off their lifespan purely because an ideology has taken hold of the ones who are supposed to help them.

It matters to me that those pensioners aren’t forced into a mixed sex ward and raped, while the hospital whistles and claims there are no men in there so it didn’t happen.

Also of those things you have listed are important. But to me (and many others it seems) it is more important that we retain the right for vulnerable women and children to safety, dignity, privacy and even for it to be acknowledged that they exist and are disadvantaged because of biological differences.

Once that is lost it will not be won back easily or even within our lifetimes.

I will NOT be told that women need to just keep it shut, and wait our turn patiently until all the other world problems are solved first before we get to us. And I’m sick of being told that the problems in the UK are down to people voting Tory, and not the fact that Labour have made themselves absolutely irrelevant to the majority of the country and downright dangerous to women.

I will vote Tory.

If Labour wants my vote, and if they give a shiny shit about any of those problems you just listed, then THEY can abandon the fringe activist cranks, stand up and be honest about reality, and actually stand a chance of sniffing power again.

Alexandra2001 · 06/04/2022 17:06

@Fairislefandango

*What’s he said today@Alisae?*

That male-bodied people (i.e. men) should not be allowed to participate in women's sports and that it is important to keep women's spaces female.

Fair enough but the trans competing in womens sport right now, are doing so under his premiership... and any bans have been implemented by international sporting bodies.

Trans women going to female prisons and refuge's etc today, yesterday and tomorrow, again are doing so under ... yep you guessed it, his premiership!

So, vote for you like but i'd have thought by now at least some people would have woken up to the fact that what BJ says and what BJ allows or does are too very different things.

Fairislefandango · 06/04/2022 17:06

Yeah, because its not like Boris ever lies and just says what he needs to do to stay in power, is it?

At least he's actually listening to what people want him to say. I'm not sure what's so virtuous about ignoring and sneering at what your voters want and believe, like Labour does!

Blossomtoes · 06/04/2022 17:10

Precisely. And he’s saying what he thinks people want him to say. Just like he made manifesto promises about no tax increases and preserving the triple lock on pensions - then broke them. He changes his mind like the wind, depending on where he thinks he can garner votes.

Absolutely spot on @Alexandra2001. Look at what politicians do, words are cheap.

MarshaBradyo · 06/04/2022 17:12

How are Labour supporters still happy with their stance on self ID and removing women’s rights?

Do you not mind the stance at all?

Alexandra2001 · 06/04/2022 17:14

@MadnessOfHamsters

This is what Labours shadow chancellor had to say on this vital matter, a few days ago.

Ms Reeves said "biological characteristics" were what defined most women but also would not want to exclude people who are born a different gender and go through a gender recognition process from living "the live they choose"

She added that it was also important to ensure that there are "single sex spaces in prisons, in refuges and in sport, which is obviously an issue of topical debate at the moment"

A position mirrored by Starmer a day latter in Bury, if your genuinely interested in Labours position?

Or support the Cons which have almost removed all sporting opportunities for ordinary people, defunded the prison system and closed womens refuge's ?

Blossomtoes · 06/04/2022 17:16

Of course I mind. But I’m capable of minding about more than one thing at once. I’m also aware that there are Tory MPs who share Labour’s views and they could easily be the majority of the party at some point.

MarshaBradyo · 06/04/2022 17:19

I’m not ready to throw away rights so easily. Not mine and not dd’s

Especially if Labour win and bring in Self ID it will be very hard to reverse.
