To be finished with voting Tory

I've voted Tory in the last couple of elections. Didn't like Corbyn and thought Keir Stammer was a bit feeble. But after that smug performance by Sunak I am totally not going to vote Tory for a very long time. We are now in a position not to be affected too much by recent rises. Not always been that way of course. I wonder if others are feeling the same. But the lack of any sort of help for less well off people makes me absolutely sick. And all decided by a multi millionaire.

I’ve never voted Tory and definitely don’t intend to start now.

TheMarvelousMrsMaisel · 03/04/2022 16:52

I never voted tory.

Bit late to regret it now isn't it? This is what YOU voted for. Miserable life's for everyone and grannies freezing to death. Be careful what you wish for.

FangsForTheMemory · 03/04/2022 16:52

I never started.

SilverHairedCat · 03/04/2022 16:54

Why did you ever vote Tory in the first place? Serious question - what attracted you to vote? A specific set of policies or decisions?

DazzlingDarrenDring · 03/04/2022 16:54

What type of morally bereft, selfish ,idiot would vote Tory now?

And don't 'but Labour' either..you actually don't HAVE to vote for anyone if you think they are all as bad as each other, you cdn still exercise your democratic right and put 'none of the above' or something on the ballot paper.

TheGoogleMum · 03/04/2022 16:55

Yes it's going to be scary times for people, YANBU parties dont deserve blind loyalty, if you don't like the way they're running the country don't vote for them!

ExtraOnion · 03/04/2022 16:56

Then stop voting for individuals and whether or not you think they are “nice” or not - and start scrutinising policies

Moodlesofnoodles · 03/04/2022 16:57

I'm interested in why you voted for a (hard) Brexit.

ComtesseDeSpair · 03/04/2022 17:00

I don’t vote Tory; although generally I don’t particularly want to cast my vote wherever I do end up casting it because there’s no party who currently offers anything like a sustainable form of government in its values and policies. But I disagree there’s “a lack of any sort of help for less well off people” because that simply isn’t true. There are benefits, there are tax credits and top ups, there are grants, there are all kinds of initiatives. They might not be as generous as some people think they ought to be, but the vast majority of people who need it can receive some sort of help.

Howareyouflower · 03/04/2022 17:11

My father had it right when asked by the local Tory MP if he could count on his vote in the coming election. "Conservative? Certainly I'll vote Conservative!.......When I've got something to conserve!"

FrecklesMalone · 03/04/2022 17:13

They are morally bereft. They do not care about us. The whole ideology of the right is about putting one's self first.

Pixiedust1234 · 03/04/2022 17:13

I've never voted tory but right now they are the only party that knows what a woman is biologically. Since rapists are being put into womens prisons and womens hospital wards now is the time to say #nothankyou, not #bekind. Its shit tbh

IOnlycreatedaccountforthispost · 03/04/2022 17:14

At the end of the day, who you vote for is a personal choice. It usually depends on your family situation and where you are in your life at that time. I refrain from judging others harshly for voting for a party that I may not agree with and I have to say I am often aghast at some of the vitriol that is spewed on MN!

BananaBlue · 03/04/2022 17:18

@Pixiedust1234 do you mean you will vote Tory to stop rapists being put into prisons and hospitals?

BobbyeinArkansas · 03/04/2022 17:21

I vote Conservative. I didn’t the year of the post Brexit election. But I do again now.
The taxes etc will be worse under Labour.
Have to say those the idea of giving with one hand while taking with the other of the last election seemed very socialist to me.

LuaDipa · 03/04/2022 17:23

This.

I’m thinking of abstaining as I won’t vote Conservative but can’t bring myself to vote Labour as I don’t understand how can they defend my rights when they can’t actually tell me what I am. It’s an utter shitshow at the minute.

So rapists are being put into women’s prisons and hospital wards now...under the tory government...so in order to stop that, you’re going to vote tory?

How does that one make sense then Confused

As much as I disagree with labour on the issue I still need to do all in my power to stop continuing austerity and all the other shit the conservatives have thrown at us. I can’t afford to say none of that matters just because Boris said something about women.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 03/04/2022 17:28

There hasn't been a general election since Starmer became leader and you've been a staunch Tory for a very long time Vivienne so I'm not sure you'll really change.

Suedomin · 03/04/2022 17:31

"The taxes etc will be worse under Labour.*
What evidence do you have for this? We now have the highest rate of tax ever. The problem is it is hidden.
Although I would be quite happy with high taxes if we had good public services and a more equitable society but at the moment we have high taxes, terrible public services and people relying on food banks to eat

Earlydancing · 03/04/2022 17:35

@Howareyouflower

I've read this a few times but I don't get the joke. Or maybe it's not a joke? I don't know.
VelvetChairGirl · 03/04/2022 17:38

I have never voted tory in my life and would prefer to not vote at all then vote for them, there is never and has never been an excuse to vote tory, there reputation and ideology is far older then any of us, never vote a tory.

Portillista · 03/04/2022 17:40

I voted Conservative all my life - until the last election and Brexit. I would now not vote Conservative because they implemented lockdowns, to which I have been vehemently opposed. I could never vote Labour, so the Lib Dems can have my vote - not that it will do them much good, as my ward is in such a firmly Conservative seat that it makes no difference (other than to me).

Michellexxx · 03/04/2022 17:40

I think berating someone for previous choices when they are reflecting is very indicative of todays society. Lots of people vote Tory, and it doesn’t mean that they want people to struggle/die. This divisiveness is a huge problem. And also why surprises like brexit happens- everyone wants free speech, as long as it’s for themselves..this blanket label leads people to keep quiet on their voting habits/ideas on policies.
Arguably, lots of Tory policies were very un-Tory during covid. That being said, the recent costs of living are out of control, but it is also a world wide issue, yet I do think they should try and do something about it.
I’m in scotland and our income tax is actually significantly higher too- so a more socialiser party does usually mean higher taxes.
I tend to vary who I vote for, but am having really trouble with supporting anyone at all with the mess that Westminster is.

AlexaShutUp · 03/04/2022 17:41

I'm glad that people are turning their backs on the Tories, but honestly speaking, I don't really understand why they are unhappy with the Tory's response to the cost of living crisis. Isn't this what they voted for?

The response has been awful but the government is responding in exactly the way that I'd have expected them to respond. I thought it was common knowledge that the Tories don't give a toss about the poor or the vulnerable. Is it really the case that people didn't know this?Confused

VelvetChairGirl · 03/04/2022 17:42

then tory speak with forked tongue then, as who is in power right now putting rapists in womens prisons and hospital wards?
