To be finished with voting Tory

417 replies

Viviennemary · 03/04/2022 16:47

I've voted Tory in the last couple of elections. Didn't like Corbyn and thought Keir Stammer was a bit feeble. But after that smug performance by Sunak I am totally not going to vote Tory for a very long time. We are now in a position not to be affected too much by recent rises. Not always been that way of course. I wonder if others are feeling the same. But the lack of any sort of help for less well off people makes me absolutely sick. And all decided by a multi millionaire.

@Earlydancing To conserve is to save. So when you've got some money, perhaps that is the time to vote Tory. If you haven't got any, avoid the self serving rich Tories.

MrsIglesias · 03/04/2022 19:19

I agree. The only way we can stop having tory governments is if Labour agrees to work with other parties though

Thedogscollar · 03/04/2022 19:20

Never started.
Never will.
Tories are not for the ordinary person on the street never have been.
This shower literally are the worst ever and I've lived through the Thatcher years!!
They DO NOT CARE!!
We need to show them what we think at the next round of local elections.
Seriously enough is enough. Time for action.

lovescats3 · 03/04/2022 19:22

Johnson should know all about what a cervix is the amount of women he's been with

BitOutOfPractice · 03/04/2022 19:24

I wouldn’t vote Tory even with a gun to my head. Never have. Never will.

VivX · 03/04/2022 19:29

I never started voting Tory either. Johnson's political prowess "peaked" years ago on HIGNFY.

Now we're all living in Brexit misery (apart from those with a handy hedge fund) and a good proportion of the population are deciding between eating and heating.

The idea that Tories are the last defender of women's rights against self-ID is frankly laughable.

lovescats3 · 03/04/2022 19:29

I've never voted Tory and never will.having worked on the health service during the Thatcher years which was terrible I can say they are not to be trusted ever .this current lot are a real shower of shit .I could not believe people voted for Johnson either after they saw his performance as mayor.they are so right wing it is scary and I think we will see civil unrest because of what is coming with regard to the cost of living crisis .wake up everyone don't vote for them!

Libertybear80 · 03/04/2022 19:30

How anyone thinks that a bunch of Elton educated toffs are going to represent jo public I will never understand. I earn good money. I've had a great education. I've never voted Tory because they simply don't want you or I to have a comfy life. They believe in absolute elitism. They want to see the poor acting like poor so no to holidays abroad or big TVs anymore.They want to see the middle class sensibly hunkering down and being happy and grateful in their little semi and let the elite and ruling classes take the cream.

SickAndTiredAgain · 03/04/2022 19:31

+I've voted Tory in the last couple of elections. Didn't like Corbyn and thought Keir Stammer was a bit feeble.*

I’m not a massive fan of Starmer, but if you are going to vote for personality, surely “a bit feeble” is preferable to a morally bankrupt liar.

Did you actually look at the policies?

Thedogscollar · 03/04/2022 19:37

@Jessasamantha

I always knew that the Tories didn't care about poor or vulnerable people, but I don't think it's ever been so blatant. They are not even pretending to care. Not even pretending that they are trying to do anything about this crisis that will see people starve or freeze to death, on their watch. I don't know how any of them sleep at night.

Then they insult us instead with their multi millionaire Chancellor of the Exchequer who has never known and will never know a day's hunger, cold or poverty in his life, standing on TV and telling us all how fucked we are before he returns to his mansion to switch the heating on and quaff champagne. We are on our own.

That is it in a nutshell. They have no bloody clue about real life and they don't intend to ever find out.

They are not a party of the people but a party of the certain people.

ilovesooty · 03/04/2022 19:37

@Snoozysnoozy

"This is what YOU voted for. Miserable life's for everyone and grannies freezing to death."

You know that's not specifically what people voted for, right? They didn't cast their ballot thinking "well that's some more poor people dead" and you can't prove to me that any other party would've done any better given the current circumstances

Even so I find the OP's sudden epiphany quite astounding. I thought she voted for the Conservatives knowing what they were like.

@Pixiedust1234

I've never voted tory but right now they are the only party that knows what a woman is biologically. Since rapists are being put into womens prisons and womens hospital wards now is the time to say #nothankyou, not #bekind. Its shit tbh
The Conservatives have been in power since 2010 (albeit alongside the Lib Dems for some of that). During that time they have done nothing to stop transgender women from being put into women’s prisons or hospital services so I’m not sure that’s a particularly persuasive argument.

I’d also suggest that a lot of their other policies and decisions have been far more harmful to most women than the occasional transgender woman accessing womens’ services.
There have been significant cuts (or at least failure to keep up with inflation/increased demand) to:

  • Sexual and reproductive health services
  • Domestic violence and sexual assault services
  • Access to legal aid (including for divorce and family law)
  • Access to benefits and services for people with disabilities and their unpaid carers (who are disproportionately women)
  • NHS bursaries and public sector pay freezes (these are predominantly female professions and this has also resulted in significant difficulties in recruiting to these professions).
  • Mental health services meaning that more people are either not receiving the care they need, having massive waits for care or are being treated out of area (especially for specialist services like eating disorders, CAMHS and BPD)
  • Children's services
  • Social Care. This means that family (again, usually women) have to take on additional caring responsibilities. It also means that carers (also, predominantly women) are often exploited using 0hr contracts and unfair pay structures.
  • Criminal justice system. This means that crimes (including crimes against women like harassment, stalking, domestic violence, sexual assault etc) are less likely to be investigated and charged.
Women who go to prison are more likely to be placed away from their families, there are fewer mother and child units, and less focus on rehabilitation/mental health/substance misuse services due to lack of funding and staffing.

During their time in government there has also been:

  • Increased waiting times for almost all NHS services
  • Worsening housing crisis
  • Worsening standard of living combined with an increased cost of living

If you honestly think that as a woman your life is better under the Conservatives then you’re probably in a very fortunate position.

Viviennemary · 03/04/2022 19:40

I voted Tory because I thought they would waste less money on daft schemes. But billions gone on useless PP equipment and furlough fraud. And nothing to be done about it. And contracts for ppe gone to their mates. I voted Brexit because I was sick of Europe calling the shots and challenging our courts. But final for me was Sunak. And trillions grabbed in profit for the power companies and savings never passed on to the customer. All rubber stamped by the tories. A good few steps too far.

Ah! Got ya! Thanks.

FrankLeeSpeaking · 03/04/2022 19:41

I've never voted Tory.
I don't really care who people vote for, but people who are suddenly aghast at their policies/behaviour really have not been paying attention.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 03/04/2022 19:43

Never voted Tory and never will. I wouldn't choose to associate with anyone who openly votes Tory either. Friend or family.

2Two · 03/04/2022 19:47

@Pixiedust1234

Why did I just know that that was going to turn up within a few posts of the thread starting? Let's ignore the fact that men, women and children are having to choose between warmth and heat, let's not care about the way this government is constantly kicking disabled people in the teeth, let's not care about their disregard of the rights of crime victims, let's not care that this is a deeply misogynist government, let's just trot out this incredibly tired mantra which no-one actually believes.

For those of you quoting me. I am well aware it seems weird that this happened under tory rule, but it would have happened under any party since the policy was underhand and sneakily brought in through a backdoor by activists and nobody understanding what it actually meant for women.

So we have a government that is too stupid to notice what is happening, despite the fact that it's been very well publicised for years? And you want to vote for it?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 03/04/2022 19:48

@HerbivorousRex well said.

wanttomarryamillionaire · 03/04/2022 19:50

@Michellexxx

I think berating someone for previous choices when they are reflecting is very indicative of todays society. Lots of people vote Tory, and it doesn’t mean that they want people to struggle/die. This divisiveness is a huge problem. And also why surprises like brexit happens- everyone wants free speech, as long as it’s for themselves..this blanket label leads people to keep quiet on their voting habits/ideas on policies. Arguably, lots of Tory policies were very un-Tory during covid. That being said, the recent costs of living are out of control, but it is also a world wide issue, yet I do think they should try and do something about it. I’m in scotland and our income tax is actually significantly higher too- so a more socialiser party does usually mean higher taxes. I tend to vary who I vote for, but am having really trouble with supporting anyone at all with the mess that Westminster is.
The most sensible comment ive read on this subject
FindingMeno · 03/04/2022 19:52

I have never voted Tory and I never will.

Exdonkeylover · 03/04/2022 19:57

I think a big issue is people wanting the Govt to do more, but on what? Oil prices are the main issue, that does have huge effects on food (cultivation, transportation etc) but it's not ust rhe UK having to deal with with this issue. Gas prices have shot up, but again, wholesale gas costs the govt can't do much on and VAT is only 5%. Yes, petrol tax is higher and the govt should do more to force petrol stations to pass any cuts on, but saying that, the supermarkets generally do and that's shown by the volume of cars using them over Shell and BP.
People might say they helped mates companies out over PPE in Covid, but the public was also screaming at them to get more PPE ASAP.
Companies like Shell do make huge profits, but thats worldwide and they spend most of that trying to find more oil to sell! (Sometimes unsuccessfully)

Just remember that any drop in fuel duty is either made up elsewhere in taxes or just paid back over the next few years and the top 1% of earners also pay 25% of the income tax the govt gets.

I'm not Tory, just don't see what Labour or anyone else could do right now, without throwing the country in more debt.

imsureineverdo · 03/04/2022 19:59

@hulahooper2

I don’t understand why anyone ever voted for them
This!
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 03/04/2022 20:03

I voted Tory because I thought they would waste less money on daft schemes.
Really? You thought electing the man who pissed millions away on the Garden Bridge vanity project as Mayor of London suggested that they'd waste less money on daft schemes?

ssd · 03/04/2022 20:07

Mmmmm....I've seen lots of your posts @Viviennemary, you've got tory through you like a stock of rock.
Your new found conscience doesn't wash with me.

CapMarvel · 03/04/2022 20:08

Bit late to feel guilty now.

We knew well in advance of the last 2 GE that the tories are a bunch of self-serving incompetent cunts.
