Mrs Hinch showing off house renovations

First off, I'd like to say yes I am a bit jealous as I really wish I wasn't worrying and stressing about the increasing heating bills etc. but seeing Mrs Hinch showing off the full downstairs underfloor heating she's having fitted just now is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I'm having a late lunch having some soup and wrapped in a hoodie AND a hoodie blanket as I've had to switch off my heating during the day to save money and keep it at bare minimum in the evenings.

I just feel she should be a bit mindful that loads of her followers might be feeling a bit crap about it with the increase in bills etc.

Don't get me wrong, it's great she can afford to do it and her new house is lovely, but I just think she should be thinking twice about posting updates of all the expensive work she's having done! I have since muted her stories so I can't see them lol!

I'm also curious to know how much the full mutual in Rons room cost lol!

YABU - get a grip, the energy bills crisis is not that big a deal

YANBU - she should maybe think twice before posting.

It's no different really toJamie Oliver cooking at his big house or Sarah Beeny building her big house on the TV, don't look at it if you don't like it.

theton · 30/03/2022 17:46

She can only afford it because she's made a career out of getting people to watch her.If people stopped, so would the cash.

Exactly!

Fluffymule · 30/03/2022 17:48

YABU only because you are choosing to follow her.

By following her, you add to her social currency and metrics that she can show to sponsors and companies that gift her items and pay her to post.

Every view of her page, of each post, each like or comment increases her social engagement value. You, and her followers (even 'hate followers') are the ones paying for her underfloor heating, paint, sofas, etc etc.

Influencers pretend they have a friendship based relationship with followers, but it's just about money. They need engagement or they don't get paid. They would soon disappear if people just stop gifting their time and attention to them for free.

Mrs Hinch and her ilk are not selling product to you, she is selling you, her 'followers', to corporate businesses.

Belladonna12 · 30/03/2022 17:48

I think you are being ridiculous. You don't have to follow her. I am finding walking difficult and painful at the moment. Does that mean it would be reasonable me to follow a marathon runner and then complain that they are are making disabled people feel bad?

Fairislefandango · 30/03/2022 17:49

YABU I'm afraid. People like looking at and admiring things they can't have or afford. That's pretty much the whole point of that type of content. And there is never a time when there aren't lots of people suffering from financial hardship, so expecting influencers to stop posting their fancy stuff just because of one current cause of financial hardship is a bit pointless and unreasonable. So long as people keep following this stuff, influencers wil keep on posting it.

tommyhoundmum · 30/03/2022 17:49

Lots of people, including me, have underfloor fitted and then find it's too expensive to run.

@Fidodidit

I’ve got plenty of advice to give on how to ignore massive fur balls and general filth - would anyone like to hear it?
Get rid of dh?
DearlyBeloathed · 30/03/2022 17:51

I can’t see how she’s at all relatable to her target audience anymore.

Abaababa · 30/03/2022 17:52

YABU

And your focus creates your reality, so stop focusing on what others have and what you don’t.

Merrymouse · 30/03/2022 17:52

@CloseYourEyesAndSee

YABU That's literally her job. She will be getting a load of that stuff done for free in exchange for advertising and people don't complain that adverts are tacky and tasteless in the face of the financial crisis or whatever... If you don't want to watch a load of subliminal advertising, don't watch it, but she's doing nothing wrong IMO.
Agree.

You are being unreasonable. Let’s face it, you are picking on her and her success. Just don’t watch, unfollow or whatever. For me, good on her. She’s earning a living and providing for her family. She’s got the money to spend so why not spend it on refurbishing her house. Would you say the same if it was your next door neighbour.

Rosebuud · 30/03/2022 17:54

You can get cleaning tips elsewhere if you need them, but you can’t proactively follow someone then complain you’re jealous. Just stop following them.

Christ you could make the same argument about any one.,oh did you see the cost of the dresses on the Oscar’s, shouldn’t they have dressed from primary as I’m skint so I don’t feel bad? Oh no, My local restaurant is advertising steal dinners, shouldn’t they not do that as I can’t afford my heating?

There will always be people with more than you and less than you. Asking them to pretend they don’t have more than you is pointless.

Mybestyear · 30/03/2022 17:57

I’m in 2 minds. On the one hand, She’s incredibly crass. So fake with the “I just can’t believe I live on a farm /have alpacas/ little old me” shite. And I hate the way she promotes the use of so many chemicals / plastic etc.

Stacey Solomon is just as bad and shock horror, they are “besties”. But….. I can’t help scrolling through on the bus lol!

Merrymouse · 30/03/2022 17:57

It's advertising dressed up as sincerity / reality. They are earning their money from followers, but dress the relationship up as a quasi-friendship. The whole thing is a gaslighting headfuck, monetising people's insecurities and aspirations.

I don’t think this business model is that different to women’s magazines, or even… Mumsnet.

People create content, and it’s funded by advertising.

If you don’t like the content, don’t consume it.

oioimatey · 30/03/2022 17:58

YABU. Come on, seriously. It's up to her what she wants to do with her own home. Just unfollow if you don't like what you see.

ronjobbins · 30/03/2022 17:59

Unfollow..simples

Manekinek0 · 30/03/2022 18:03

Stop following her, stop buying the products she pushes on you and her books. She isn't your friend, she uses her life as an advertisement and manipulates people into thinking they need excessive cleaning products and tat.

mizzo · 30/03/2022 18:05

@JaneJeffer

Be grateful you've got soup and a hoodie blanket and a roof over your head. Some people would envy you!
Are you a dinner lady from the 80's, "Eat that gristle/crust/unidentifiable blob there's starving kids who would love to have the luxury of that"
GoodJanetBadJanet · 30/03/2022 18:15

anyone who thinks cleaning is fascinating subject and is a wannabe Stepford wife needs to learn more about feminism instead

Hmm Biscuit
Or how about it's more feminist to grasp that women are individuals who shock, horror like different things and some actually enjoy what you sneer at /look down on?
Each to their own.

IamTheOldWomanThatLivesInAShoe · 30/03/2022 18:20

I agree. Both Mrs Hinch and Stacey Solomon showing of the bathrooms for their toddlers/dogs is tone deaf. But then I guess they have to do if they want to continue to make money. Obviously we can all unfollow if we wish but somehow we don’t!

Menora · 30/03/2022 18:20

I stopped following and buying stuff she was selling as realised I don’t need it. She’s so wasteful, a lot of the stuff she uses just once or it’s just rubbish - those metal baskets she put in the bathroom for kids bath toys went all rusty, or just like 50 different types of seating everywhere for the sake of having something new. When I saw that she just is addicted to getting new things it helped me see it differently. I don’t really like how she’s decorating her new house at all, it already looks dated and over done but that’s her choice and her house. She’s not immune from paying bills either and will have loads more now, her heating bill will be huge. People still buy her stuff now it’s in Tescos and she's moved on from chemicals.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 30/03/2022 18:20

I think that was kind of the posters point though?!
As in going by OP and other's logic, we should be jealous of people who have more than us and flaunt it on social media.
Posting about being in a presumably warm hoodie and a hot bowl of soup indoors?
Bit inconsiderate seeing as people are struggling to stay warm at the moment and pay for food shopping.
See?
Where does it end, just enjoy her content or stop watching if it makes you upset.

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 30/03/2022 19:10

This is 100% not the point of the thread, but where do you live OP that you need to wrap up that warm? I’ve got two small kids and only have put the heating on for an hour in the morning and evening this week and we’ve been fine. To be honest it feels very decadent having the heating on at all in the last week of March, I always feel I should get to the end of Feb and turn it off. Why would you have your heating on all day anyway?
