Mrs Hinch showing off house renovations

First off, I'd like to say yes I am a bit jealous as I really wish I wasn't worrying and stressing about the increasing heating bills etc. but seeing Mrs Hinch showing off the full downstairs underfloor heating she's having fitted just now is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I'm having a late lunch having some soup and wrapped in a hoodie AND a hoodie blanket as I've had to switch off my heating during the day to save money and keep it at bare minimum in the evenings.

I just feel she should be a bit mindful that loads of her followers might be feeling a bit crap about it with the increase in bills etc.

Don't get me wrong, it's great she can afford to do it and her new house is lovely, but I just think she should be thinking twice about posting updates of all the expensive work she's having done! I have since muted her stories so I can't see them lol!

I'm also curious to know how much the full mutual in Rons room cost lol!

YABU - get a grip, the energy bills crisis is not that big a deal

YANBU - she should maybe think twice before posting.

I think these cleaning influencers are on a par with the perfectly shaped body positive influencers. In that it’s all nonesense.
Unfollow her - people don’t need cleaning tips. They can keep their houses reasonably clean and tidy (if they want) and enjoy being outside/playing with their kids/hobbies in the time not being used for cleaning.
Im sure Mrs Hinch and others don’t mean to make people feel insecure/lesser but if it does then unfollow. After a few weeks you will have forgotten about her and life will be better 🙂

mnnewbie111 · 30/03/2022 15:20

I think her work seems really bloody tedious so I guess she deserves it for spending so long doing mind numbingly dumb shit for likes

troppibambini6 · 30/03/2022 15:21

Rather than start a thread about her just unfollow.
There are always going to be people with more money and able to just do more it's not just her.
Just don't watch.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 30/03/2022 15:23

In 2022 any social media is best viewed through the lens of: if you're not paying for the product, you are the product.

I don't mind Hinch at all, have met her a couple of times professionally and she's a decent woman. And fair play she's made a lot of money off a cleaning channel on Instagram.

But that's literally all it is. She's never claimed to be anything other than someone who got lucky riding social media's bull market.

If it's upsetting, irritating or even just chiming wrong with you right now, just mute her or unfollow her.

The locus of control here is yours, with the follow/block buttons, not hers with the posts.

LampLighter414 · 30/03/2022 15:36

If you don't want to feel bad about how a millionaire lives their life in comparison to yours then I would stop following said millionaire on social media

BulletTrain · 30/03/2022 15:36

She is not just a "normal" person, but a woman pretending to be your mate. She used to work in sales for a recruitment company, despite all the "Ooh I'm just a daffy part-time hairdresser" shit. In 2020, someone who approached her management company said she charges £24k for a 4-frame instagram story. Honestly when she recommends a product it's no more likely that she uses it than it is that Michelle Keegan actually wears her Very collection. She's really not to be compared to the real life of anyone.

DowntonCrabby · 30/03/2022 15:39

YABU
Her whole image/brand is dedicated to her beautiful home. Just unfollow.

Shiningpath · 30/03/2022 15:41

If she didn’t share aspects of her life that are better than your average person could afford she’d be accused of hiding them, being “inauthentic”, deceiving the public somehow. I don’t have any feelings particularly about the woman (though can’t stand this trend to fetishise cleaning) but it seems like she can’t win. She’s not had a diamond toilet installed, it’s common or garden underfloor heating.

SaxendaSummer · 30/03/2022 15:43

so what?

she does plenty of content showing how to epicycle and craft new things from old

SaxendaSummer · 30/03/2022 15:43

*upcycle

rainbowsandclouds · 30/03/2022 15:46

I followed her for the cleaning tips but quickly unfollowed because the cleaning tips are only if you are willing to spend a lot of money on cleaning chemicals that add up and not to mention the variety of sponges and tat. Plus I found her frequent home bargains shopping spree a bit Hmmwith her though, she has 2 children, a dog and is on instagram all day with full make up and hair done so it's unrealistic what she achieves without any help so that's why I can't really relate with anything she shares and now looking at her page she has alpacas and some farm shit going on lol. But you have the power, if you don't like it just unfollow her like I did.

Bobbleka · 30/03/2022 15:46

YANBU but “influencers” exist to show off and to flog things to people who are easily influenced! They are all as bad as each other only on different budgets. I can’t stand brummymummyof2 who constantly buys things, albeit she’s much lower rent than hinch, and endless ads flogging stuff she never uses. It’s the sheer volume of shopping and consumption that is jaw dropping with that one.

If I ever had that much influence and earning potential I hope I would actually do something that would do good in the world, and that I wouldn’t be so caught up in constant consuming and touting for likes and engagement. I guess it’s addictive though and feeds into the self obsession, must be hard for them to ever break free. With all that attention and money I might end up just as bad.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 30/03/2022 15:46

YABU.

There are always going to be people who are better off and not struggling. It's not fair or realistic to expect those people to never mention their good fortune or achievements for fear of upsetting others.

If watching her stories upsets you so much, just unfollow her Confused

CupcakesK · 30/03/2022 15:46

YANBU

I didn't mind her at first, but the cleaning content has got less and less and now she lies/hides so many things or only mentions them to up her engagement. Everything is an ad, most of it undeclared. She is heavily filtered all of the time - nothing is real in what she posts. She has made millions of off the back of people much less well-off then her buying into her lies. She also uses her children as content and gives them no privacy or the right to say no.

She isn't the only one doing it though. The reason influencers love Instagram is the ability to buy followers and likes. Instagram has been repeatedly shown to be bad for people's mental health. Of course you can ignore it, but often by the time you do this the damage is already done.

LunaNova · 30/03/2022 15:48

I'm going to go against the grain and said YANBU on the basis of who Mrs Hinch's target audience is (and not just her, a lot of "influencers"). To me it feels in poor taste that in one breath she's talking about saving money going to home bargains and b&m and the next flaunting something worth thousands of pounds. It's almost like every time her followers might start to disengage with "this woman is nothing like me anymore" she does a b&m shop and reminds people she is relatable and they forget she's actually incredibly wealthy.

I don't blame the woman for enjoying her money, I'm sure she's lovely and she's done well to become so wealthy. But I also know that a lot of people who follow influencers on social media are led into believing that these people aren't so different to them and it's that that feels wrong to me (as then people often feel like they need to get into debt to emulate the same).

WeDontShutUpAboutBruno · 30/03/2022 15:49

I don't have social media, but if I did I would only follow people I like, if I like someone then I would be delighted they could buy lovely things and have a nice home.

Why shouldn't she post about the nice things in her life? We are all in a better position than someone.

Mrsjayy · 30/03/2022 15:51

You know you can unfollow her immediately you don't have to upset yourself in watching someone do their house up ! People should follow influencers for a bit of light entertainment and if you are reading too much into it maybe find someone else to pass your time.

WhereYouLeftIt · 30/03/2022 15:53

"YABU - get a grip, the energy bills crisis is not that big a deal"

"YANBU - she should maybe think twice before posting."

The energy bills crisis is very much a big deal. But you're still being unreasonable.

Streetsigntonowhere · 30/03/2022 15:57

you cant blame the woman because at the time she’s having her house renovated, happens to be the same time heating bills are going up.
Yes she doesn’t have to show it, but her way of making a living is to show these updates. We can’t expect her to forgo her wage because some of us are a bit touchy about the rise is heating bills.
It seems like you’ve taken it a bit personally.

HeyItsPickleRick · 30/03/2022 15:59

Yeah just don't follow her. I once looked at her Instagram to see what the fuss was about and... nope don't get it. Everything looked quite cheap and grey and the posts were so mundane. I don't know how people get themselves so excited about cleaning.

sauvignonblancplz · 30/03/2022 16:00

I agree with the minority here , a lot of her target audience are women at home , who love the hinch haul out of b&m and other low cost stores.
She is very entitled to enjoy her wealth but when a lot of her audience are struggling I don’t think it’s unreasonable for her to be considerate about what she shares. Esp because it is very unattainable.

Shoxfordian · 30/03/2022 16:00

Yabu; it’s up to you which content you access and if it makes you feel bad then stop following her

AgathaMystery · 30/03/2022 16:04

Unfollow. She is not your friend, she does not know you. You do not know her.

Social media is weird AF.
