To think that Kier Starmer is spineless?

I'm a long time Labour supporter.
Not anymore.
Kier Starmer was asked if women have penises.
He couldn't answer.

I've had enough of this gaslighting.
How can I vote for a party that is led by this man?
How, in 2022, can a candidate who hopes to be pm not be able to say what a woman is?

AIBU to think he knows FULL WELL what a woman is but is too much of a coward to say. The men threatening and bullying Rosie Duffield certainly know what a woman is.

And I know a penis when I see one.

@ScribblingPixie

What I didn't realise, before reading it on here, is that there is specific provision in the GRA for estates entailed in the male line. They are exempted from the act in that females can't self identify as male to usurp their brothers in the line of succession.

They have chosen to retain their male privilege, to ensure that they don't actually drop down to the lowly position occupied by women. Says it all.

It's the same in Scotland over male line hereditary titles, I think. Not available to trans men and still inherited by trans women. I think. If someone can confirm (or disprove; I'd love to be wrong), I'd be grateful.

It's an absolutely ridiculous mess they've got themselves into but I still rather vote for Keir Starmer, even if he doesn't know how to tell if I'm a man or woman

Do you fully understand what Labour intend to do with future policies? You won't even exist as a woman if they win, so are you still happy to vote for them bringback?

@Swayingpalmtrees

Do you knowledge of what is in Labours manifesto? would be intrigued to know!

Johnson has now rolled back on his personal promise to ban sexual conversion therapy, despite it also being in his parties manifesto, the sort of "therapy" that drove Alan Turing to suicide... disgusting.... that Spineless

Keep up. LGB conversion therapy is already against the Law under other statutes but Johnson has agreed to explicitly ban it for LGB but not for the T. T has piggybacked onto LGB without checking that was okay with gay people. They are not the same.
This is the right decision as being gay does not require medical treatment and surgery whereas being Trans does. In a roundabout or cunning way they have arrived at the best situation for the protection of young people.

Alexandra2001 · 01/04/2022 07:46

@jkrfan I think you might be the one to "keep up"

Back tracked on the manifesto promise (why make a promise to ban if already covered?) Then 3 hours later, under pressure from some MPs, his wife and LGBT groups... announces its is "something very close to his heart" and will bring in legislation banning something YOU said is already covered..... clearly not!!

Why they have excluded Trans though is a bone thrown to his party, people should not be forced to under go treatment they don't want, which is ultimately what he is allowing, fairly unique in western europe.

Swayingpalmtrees · 01/04/2022 10:04

If you had read the reasons alex it is to prevent people that wish to pray to be different, so a catholic man that believes he is gay may wish to pray to God for support and change because being gay is not conducive with his religion, he will then be criminalised. Do you not see how deeply damaging it might be to take away that choice? We are not just talking about very overt conversion therapy which has already been discussed, and it is illegal already. There are much more subtle issues here, you can't criminalise people that wish to seek help, support and prayer when dealing with their sexuality. Which is why the gov have suggested laws are probably not helpful after extensive consultation and investigation. The courts are probably NOT the right place say for a Muslim man wrestling with his sexuality who finds himself being prosecuted unfairly.
It would be counter productive in some cases.

I really wish people would try and at least understand the finer detail before shouting down others and berating the government before they have understood the issue properly. It was right to take a step back and consider it - it is complex.

This campaign will help us find out where our politicians stand.

I won't apologise for a DM link and I'm not interested in your opinion of the newspaper.

Wheresthebeach · 05/04/2022 11:21

I think we need real clarity from politicians on this. For me its not a party issue - its much bigger than that.

No reply to the email I sent to my local councillor, Bev Craig last week …..

Battytwatty

Here is the email I sent to my local councillor. It was sent in a rush as I was angry (and at work) so excuse any bad grammar. I will update with any response but not holding my breath ….

Good morning,
I am a life long Labour voter and supporter but I am becoming increasingly concerned about Labours stance on the definition of woman and the erosion of woman’s rights to safe spaces and the effects that will have.
As a frequent user of Mumsnet, I have noticed this topic gets discussed a lot and many users including myself find that as the Labour Party can’t define what a woman is, we are unable to vote for them. I have attached a recent thread for your attention. I would urge you to please spend some time reading the Mumsnet boards so you can see yourself how many woman feel unable to vote Labour and feel politically homeless.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

Very disappointing, but I’m not surprised.

Battytwatty · 06/04/2022 10:12

so I followed up with this one yesterday, which was copied from a website recommended by Glinner….

I live in XXXX and before I cast my vote, I would be grateful if we could discuss the protection of women’s rights. You may have seen the campaign ‘Respect my Sex if you want my ‘X’’, in which women all over the country are talking to local election candidates about women’s sex-based rights and single-sex spaces and services.

Sex is a protected characteristic in the Equality Act. Women’s single-sex spaces and services matter for the dignity, privacy, and safety of women.

Yet some local authorities, have begun prioritising the concept of self-identified ‘gender’ over sex. This filters down into Council policies with an impact on the provision of women’s single-sex spaces and services – for example public toilets and park facilities. Clarity about sex also matters for sports – girls and women need single-sex competitions to guarantee fair and safe competition. Clarity about sex matters for safeguarding children. Some schools have removed single-sex toilets and local authorities have endorsed materials which suggest that what makes a child a boy or a girl is whether they fit into masculine or feminine stereotypes. I’m interested to know where you would stand on these issues. If elected, would you work to ensure that our local authority:

retains the concept of sex where it matters in language, communications, data collection, and policy development;
protects women’s single-sex spaces and services, both in direct provision, and where you have regulatory / partnership influence;
prioritises safeguarding the vulnerable, especially children, in the provision of all spaces and services where sex matters?
I look forward to hearing from you.
