To be pissed off at DH - After holiday

200 replies

batsmaf · 27/03/2022 21:39

We get home from a city break. I always strip the bed before a trip. So i make the bed and DH puts the disgusting suitcase on it!

I'm not a germaphobe just an average person that likes a clean house, but come on! It's common sense, its been on a filthy plane, in bathrooms, dragged around numerous cities, now all of that is on our lovely fresh bedding!

That excitement of getting into a clean bed after a good scrub off the holiday shower is now tainted

OP posts:
ASongOfRiceAndPeas · 28/03/2022 01:18

YANBU. That’s gross, I’d be p’d off too and probably immediately change the duvet cover. I don’t want outside things on my nice clean bedding.

Weightscales · 28/03/2022 01:21

I would feel the same OP!

Thinking2041 · 28/03/2022 01:22

We were watching some crap reality thing the other day and a man put his suitcase on the bed. My DH said ‘he can’t be serious?!’
Thank the lord he gets why that is seriously gross.

I find it amazing that some people wouldn’t care. I assume if you don’t care about a suitcase then you wouldn’t care if someone put their shoes on your pillow or bed? I just find the range of responses so interesting. I take my daughter regularly to soft play where you are meant to take your shoes off. I can’t understand why people would walk into the gross Urine splattered toilets in just their socks. On planes too! Those toilets are disgusting! And people walk in just their socks or barefoot. It makes me shudder when I see it.

pollyglot · 28/03/2022 01:22

I was brought up with the maxim of "never put your suitcase on the bed". For the very reasons you cite. So I think YANBU, OP.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/03/2022 01:25

@Ylvamoon

And I thought germs were a good thing. Don't they help build the immune system?
The last thing I need is my immune system getting overexcited any more than it is already. An over enthusiastic response to infection is as dangerous as under reactions.
Amici · 28/03/2022 01:33

@stepawayfromtheminstrels

I'm not the cleanest and tidiest person so no germ phobia, but why would anyone put their suitcase on the bed? Never done it in my life. And to those of you with dogs and cats in bed beside you? You are proof evolution is now going backwards.... Smile
Listening to my dog snoring away by my feet on the bed, we couldn't care less what your opinion is 😁 I'll happily see all your degrees to show how you formed an opinion of evolution going backwards though? Oh, you don't need facts or logic to have an generalised opinion? Nvm then 😉 My dog gets his paws washed after every walk as I don't want him bringing anything that could harm him into the house (parvo etc) or if he has rubbed up against something that probably has dog wee in it, he gets a full shower so he is cleaner than you would be if you came into my house. It's been proven having a pet builds your immune system up so settle down love, you don't need to project here about pets when it's a post about suitcases where the wheels etc aren't washed before being brought into the home 😊
Winterflower84 · 28/03/2022 01:53

Just change the bedding! Why the drama? I wouldn't like it of course, but would tease DH and change the bedding instead of getting that upset.

Sapphireskies · 28/03/2022 02:08

I would be more worried About all the recycled air in the plane than a suitcase on the bed.

lovemelongtime · 28/03/2022 02:16

I'm with you all the way. You drag your suitcase round the airport, if it's got wheels you drag it round the streets and everything and then put it on the bed. Yuck. That's gross. It's like putting dirty shoes on the bed, you don't know what filth is on it.

haveagohero · 28/03/2022 02:35

@batsmaf it is my bugbear - and extremely disgusting! I work in a very clinical environment where you could almost be let go for doing something like this. YANBU

LoisLane66 · 28/03/2022 02:43

@batsmaf
Don't tell me it's never happened before.
What have you done on all the other occasions?

LoisLane66 · 28/03/2022 02:47

@batsmaf
When you unpacked and repacked your cases in the hotel, did you leave them on the floor or put them on the bed whilst doing the (un)packing?

stormswiftlysweetafton · 28/03/2022 02:49

I would never put a suitcase on the bed (though DH might, if I wasn't there to intervene), but our dogs do visit us on the bed sometimes (only on top of the covers, never under/in the sheets). I'm not sure where this puts me, on the evolutionary scale. Wink

Dutchesss · 28/03/2022 03:34

YANBU on top of the duvet - fine. Under the duvet on a fresh clean sheet? Envy

Whatup · 28/03/2022 04:00

Stuff that goes on the floor outside should be left near the front door or on the floor.

RustyShackleford3 · 28/03/2022 04:07

If it wasn't visibly dirty it wouldn't really bother me enough to get upset and feel that I needed to change the sheets, but I don't think it's germaphobe level to be bothered by it. Planes are gross and full of international illnesses just itching to come home with you.

ClassyCupcake2020 · 28/03/2022 04:09

YABU. This wouldn’t even cross my mind.

TwoShades1 · 28/03/2022 04:15

It’s grim. Put it on the floor. If you really need it up higher put down a towel first.

You just reminded me of my mum! Her dog "visits with her" on her bed on a Sunday morning as a treat Grin
dizzydizzydizzy · 28/03/2022 06:01

YANBU. DP does the same. He has no concept of hygiene whatsoever. When I first knew him, I found him cleaning his muddy boots with the washing up brush.

BurntEnds · 28/03/2022 06:19

@Glitteringduck

I feel bad for your DH. Must be awful waiting for the next stupid thing that will set you off.
It hasn't "set her off"
Shoxfordian · 28/03/2022 06:41

If it didn’t look dirty then it wouldn’t even occur to me this was a problem - yabu

mnnewbie111 · 28/03/2022 07:20

@BurntEnds

I agree it's grim. Same as people who put their handbags on the table they are about to eat off
I'm confused. Why would your handbag ever go on the floor anyway or anywhe tree to collect germs, it's always in your hand.... it's a handbag. Stored on hooks??
HELLITHURT · 28/03/2022 07:27

@BurntEnds

Do you not use a a plate?
PennyPinkPineapple · 28/03/2022 08:03

Yeah that's disgusting, I'd be really annoyed too.

Nothing from outside goes on the bed. I get cross when DH gets home from work and sits on the bed in his train trousers, blah!
