To be pissed off at DH - After holiday

200 replies

batsmaf · 27/03/2022 21:39

We get home from a city break. I always strip the bed before a trip. So i make the bed and DH puts the disgusting suitcase on it!

I'm not a germaphobe just an average person that likes a clean house, but come on! It's common sense, its been on a filthy plane, in bathrooms, dragged around numerous cities, now all of that is on our lovely fresh bedding!

That excitement of getting into a clean bed after a good scrub off the holiday shower is now tainted

Oh wow. You’d fight with your DH over this? YABU

batsmaf · 27/03/2022 22:34

@Puppyseahorse

Oh sorry I misread. Why do you strip the bed before a trip?
Just to give the bed a chance to breathe

Nothing that has been outside our house is allowed to touch our bed, but that is because I have severe allergies. So I absolutely agree, it’s foul. DH can’t sit on our bed in his street clothes though so I might not be the best judge.

AwfulTed · 27/03/2022 22:35

OP you are completely right!!! Disgusting, I’m not a neat freak but would definitely change the duvet cover! Yuk.

Honeyroar · 27/03/2022 22:35

I was cabin crew. I probably did that once a week for over two decades. I’ve not died from all the dirt/germs! As long as he’s not put it on your pillow or in your actual bed I’d not worry.
Clearly a fold out suitcase stand, like you see in hotels, would be a good present for you for Xmas!

batsmaf · 27/03/2022 22:36

@RoundGlass

Personally. I'd be flabbergasted and appalled.
Lol

I get it may seem weird

I didn't have an argument with him or anything i just said please don't do that it's unhygienic.

I more wanted to see if others thought it was gross too

If I've just come back from a holiday the last thing I'd want to do is make the bed!
If it was raining and the wheels etc were muddy I'd be irritated but generally I couldn't get worked up about it. You've just slept in a bed in holiday that thousands of strangers have slept in, had sex in, sweated in ok sheets are changed but if you think about it that's probably worse (also doesn't bother me)

BoredZelda · 27/03/2022 22:38

Did you have a nice break? You seem quite tense.

What a shitty comment.

You don’t have to be tense not to want dirty wheels on clean bedding. No different to putting dirty shoes on the bed. Nothing to do with germs, ot is to do with mud/grit/earth which gets on to the sheets and is as bad as having crumbs in the bed, so uncomfortable.

BakedBeeeen · 27/03/2022 22:38

@BurntEnds

I agree it's grim. Same as people who put their handbags on the table they are about to eat off
Weird - I eat off a plate.
BoredZelda · 27/03/2022 22:39

I’ve not died from all the dirt/germs!

Stop with the “nobody died” nonsense. People don’t have to die for things not to be a good idea.

Bedbugs have made a comeback in the last 10 years and it is a big problem in the US now. Some friends I know brought them back with a suitcase on the bed from a hotel in Rome and that's the only reason I know about it. It cost them hundreds of pounds and a huge amount of incontinence to get rid of them, it turned out to be very stressful for them

@BurntEnds

The bottom of handbags is covered in shit.
Eh?

Why have you been putting it on the ground?

My handbag is always on me or on a chair or hanging on the back of something

BeforeGodAndAllTheFish · 27/03/2022 22:40

The excitement of getting into a clean bed?

That's a phrase I never imagined hearing.

Brokenseas · 27/03/2022 22:41

I'm not a clean freak at all, but yy to bedbugs.

DespairingHomeowner · 27/03/2022 22:43

YANBU - as others have said the wheels especially would be dirty plus bedbugs

I also hate handbags on beds because they’ve been everywhere too

Sounds like he wasn’t thinking but hopefully he won’t do it again. Is there any other surface he could have used? If not I’d have put down an old sheet or something

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 27/03/2022 22:44

YANBU it’s nasty. On a par with lying on bed with your shoes on. Spit, shit, bedbugs, all kinds chucked on to the bed. Nasty.

Topseyt · 27/03/2022 22:45

I couldn't get het up about something this ridiculous.

UrsulaPandress · 27/03/2022 22:46

I’m the grimmest skank ever. BUT. I had bed bug once and I think they came home in my case from a hotel in Yorkshire.

hettie · 27/03/2022 22:46

Was any part of the suitcase dirty (like muddy/oily dirty)? If there was something that could have marked the bedding I get you being annoyed (wouldn't bother me if I could wash it out at some point, but I get your frustration). If it's about 'germs' then presumably you're worried about infection. In which case you're worrying unnecessarily and you might want to get a better understanding of infectious disease

Allinhistiming · 27/03/2022 22:46

You are not being unreasonable! This is one way bedbugs get into your bed! 🤮🤮🤮

PyongyangKipperbang · 27/03/2022 22:46

Totally not getting the handbag thing.

A) I eat off a plate not a table so no issue there
B) if I put my bag down anywhere its in my car on the seat or in my house on a storage/pouffe thing where no feet or shoes go
C) if I need to take my bag off in a loo then I hang it on the hook (mainly for security as there was a spate some years back of bags being nicked by pulling them under the gap) or hold it on my lap.

If I am in a restaurant I will hang it over my chair under my coat or on the table. Where is "filth" going to get on my bag from that?!

katepilar · 27/03/2022 22:47

Never understood why people put suitcases onto their beds. For this very reason. Its discusting. I am not a clean freak but this is a big no for me.

BoredZelda · 27/03/2022 22:48

Oh come on, who doesn’t love a fresh bed?

Rattysparklebum · 27/03/2022 22:49

@Volhhg

YANBU. I usually don't care about stuff like this and do things considered unhygienic. However I happen to know that this is the most common way that bedbugs are spread. Bedbugs have made a comeback in the last 10 years and it is a big problem in the US now. Some friends I know brought them back with a suitcase on the bed from a hotel in Rome and that's the only reason I know about it. It cost them hundreds of pounds and a huge amount of incontinence to get rid of them, it turned out to be very stressful for them. So If you ever stay in a hotel don't put your bag on the bed leave it far away from the bed
You do realise bedbugs have legs and live in skirting boards, behind wallpaper, behind the wardrobe and chest of drawers, all sorts of places, not putting your bag on the bed does not prevent bedbugs spreading.
