To be pissed off at DH - After holiday

batsmaf · 27/03/2022 21:39

We get home from a city break. I always strip the bed before a trip. So i make the bed and DH puts the disgusting suitcase on it!

I'm not a germaphobe just an average person that likes a clean house, but come on! It's common sense, its been on a filthy plane, in bathrooms, dragged around numerous cities, now all of that is on our lovely fresh bedding!

That excitement of getting into a clean bed after a good scrub off the holiday shower is now tainted

OP posts:
Ilovebrussels · 27/03/2022 23:31

Yanbu. Totally get ya. Its gross. Im also not a germaphobe

Ilovebrussels · 27/03/2022 23:32

It's also disrespectful to you, after your efforts to ensure clean fresh bedding (which we all love) then he does that. It's be fuming too

oioimatey · 27/03/2022 23:42

I'd put a suitcase on the bed but only at the foot, never at the head end. And it would never go anywhere near the parts of a duvet that come into contact with my arms or face!

bellsbuss · 27/03/2022 23:43

I would hate this too , I have a thing about dirt and germs which stems from one of my children nearly dying. I'm obsessive about it but DH understands why.

Moser85 · 27/03/2022 23:44

What was your reaction?

Were you pissed off but said nothing or did you berate him for it?

steff13 · 27/03/2022 23:46

@TossieFleacake

I remember reading somewhere that suitcases on beds is the way that bed bugs get transferred. They jump aboard from the hotel bed, cling on round the cities and on the plane and then jump off onto your bed at home!! Am aware this may not make you feel any better about the situation. But it is the reason why my suitcases stay on the floor.
If the hotel bed has bedbugs, wouldn't they also get in your pajamas? So you put your dirty laundry covered in bed bugs in with your other dirty laundry and then you wash it and by that time they've gone everywhere.
AbsentmindedWoman · 27/03/2022 23:53

I hate this too! NO to suitcase on the bed Grin

SapphireSeptember · 27/03/2022 23:59

Not unreasonable! I hope you made him change the sheets. Envy

AnnesBrokenSlate · 28/03/2022 00:00

It is gross. I can't believe he did that Envy

And I'm not a germaphobe. If there was a scale, I'd probably be more towards slattern ... but I'd never put a suitcase on a bed after a trip.

MrsEricBana · 28/03/2022 00:01

My dog is snoring next to me on the bed right now. Is this not ok then?

godmum56 · 28/03/2022 00:05

@Volhhg
"It cost them hundreds of pounds and a huge amount of incontinence to get rid of them,

best typo EVER
or did they really pee in the bed to kill the bugs? Grin

Sunnytwobridges · 28/03/2022 00:23

That would gross me out too. I mean it wouldn’t ruin the day for me but you’re right it’s come in contact with a lot of nastiness from the ground so I would never put it on my bed

Amici · 28/03/2022 00:26

I get grossed out watching Four In a Bed and seeing people with their shoes on lying down on a nice, clean bed 🤢

YANBU but I wouldn't let him squirm for too long, in the grand scheme of things there's worse that could happen but yeah, I'd definitely be pissed off about it too. It's just mentally knowing things are actually clean (doesn't mean you're a germophobe btw, you're totally right for not wanting God knows what where you sleep)
Having worked in housekeeping for many years, seeing people sweating away then using their tops to 'shine the cutlery' 🤮... Some people just have different standards of real clean and looks clean. I'd definitely see it as being tainted too 😅

stepawayfromtheminstrels · 28/03/2022 00:27

I'm not the cleanest and tidiest person so no germ phobia, but why would anyone put their suitcase on the bed? Never done it in my life.
And to those of you with dogs and cats in bed beside you? You are proof evolution is now going backwards.... Smile

Tsuni · 28/03/2022 00:30

Waiting for the massive dripfeed where you tell us why you're actually pissed off.

PingPages · 28/03/2022 00:39

Ugh I’d be the same as you OP, that’s gross. But then I also hate shoes on the bed and other people seem fine with that?!

ozymandiusking · 28/03/2022 00:44

I wouldnt do this. The case could be dirty from being on the floor/ground. There is a risk of bed bugs from hotels and these could be trasferred to the bed.

Pandypuff · 28/03/2022 00:56

@LegoLady95

YABU. This wouldn't even cross my mind as an issue and I am not a slattern.
Same
PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 28/03/2022 01:02

YANBU

Handbags shouldn't go on beds either.

Get a luggage stand.

RainyDayyy · 28/03/2022 01:07

YANBU

It’s not clean.
Maybe if he was the one to change sheets, he’d be more understanding.

violetbunny · 28/03/2022 01:08

Sounds like a great way to catch bed bugs. I've told DP off for doing the exact same thing!

ukborn · 28/03/2022 01:09

This would not even cross my mind as an issue.
And bags on table @BurntEnds? Are you eating directly off the table?

Volhhg · 28/03/2022 01:11

I know it sounds crazy but look it up on all the pest control sites. They all say specifically don't put your suitcase on your bed when on holiday or arriving home. I thought it was mad too but they all say the same thing. Maybe it's something like the bed bugs are more likely to be concentrated in the bed area?

BOOTS52 · 28/03/2022 01:11

It is gross, same with people who get home from food shopping and put the bags on the table or worktops. Did you have a nice break.

Volhhg · 28/03/2022 01:15

I think it's because the bedbugs infest in an area near to where you are sleeping such as mattress and then come out to feed on you at night. I don't fully understand the bed and suitcase issue but apparently it's a real thing and it's on all the pest control guidance
