To be pissed off at DH - After holiday

200 replies

batsmaf · 27/03/2022 21:39

We get home from a city break. I always strip the bed before a trip. So i make the bed and DH puts the disgusting suitcase on it!

I'm not a germaphobe just an average person that likes a clean house, but come on! It's common sense, its been on a filthy plane, in bathrooms, dragged around numerous cities, now all of that is on our lovely fresh bedding!

That excitement of getting into a clean bed after a good scrub off the holiday shower is now tainted

@batsmaf - I get it

Maybe I wouldn’t be pissed off at my DH for putting a suitcase on clean bed, but I would certainly urge him not to do it, especially the wheels! I mean, you drag it through airports, streets, train stations, public toilets etc. It’s like putting dirty shoes on fresh bedding …

BellePeppa · 27/03/2022 22:50

Crikey I’ve been putting suitcases on beds for decades. Luckily I’ve survived to tell the tale.

BellePeppa · 27/03/2022 22:52

I would add, I don’t put the wheels on though, they hang off the edge.

katepilar · 27/03/2022 22:53

@BurntEnds

When was the last time you cleaned the bottom of your handbag.
Why is bottom of a handbag relevant? Do you put your handbag into your bed ? Or on the table? Do you put your handbag of all the floors that a suitcase on a flight would be?

My backpack goes on floors everywhere and some chairs at work and thats it.

Angryalot · 27/03/2022 22:56

You know bed sheets aren't sterile? Everything we come across will have dirt and bacteria. I think that's bizarre

Excitement? Seriously?

GeorgiaGirl52 · 27/03/2022 22:57

@bert3400

And with the hand bag on the table...well I eat my dinner off a plate not the table Confused
ROFLOL Common sense speaks at last!
SwishSwishBisch · 27/03/2022 22:57

OP I am completely, 100% with you. Suitcases are grotty, I empty mine in the hallway - it’s not even allowed in the bedroom after a holiday! I don’t care if people think that’s odd - I don’t want pavement/airport ming in my bedroom ta!
And, I also have a thing about letting beds breathe Grin

EthelTheAardvark · 27/03/2022 22:58

@BurntEnds

I agree it's grim. Same as people who put their handbags on the table they are about to eat off
What???? Who eats food straight off the table?

WTF is going on with MN tonight?

FinallyHere · 27/03/2022 23:00

always strip the bed before a trip

I would hate to come home to an unmade bed, I'd make the bed before leaving.

The suitcase isn't IMO 'disgusting'. I wouldn't mind having a suitcase on the bed, newly made up or not.

Never get upset stomach or any such illness. My mother was taught by the HV that a normal environment is better for the immune system than a very sanitised one.

feel a bit sorry for your partner. What a homecoming.

Summerfun54321 · 27/03/2022 23:00

This wouldn’t bother me at all. It takes less than a minute to put on a fresh sheet if you think your current one is tainted by incontinent bedbugs or handbag shit.

ArtVandalay · 27/03/2022 23:02

We have just been away. Our custom is to put clean bedding on just before we leave so it's all lovely and fresh to come back to. But I would not care a jot about a case being plonked on the bed.

Glitteringduck · 27/03/2022 23:07

I feel bad for your DH. Must be awful waiting for the next stupid thing that will set you off.

WonderfulYou · 27/03/2022 23:07

Just to give the bed a chance to breathe

YABU

I think you’re more of a germaphobe than you realise.
You definitely have odd habits.

crackersforcrackers · 27/03/2022 23:08

YANBU I agree its grim and would have to redo the bed.

shellybon · 27/03/2022 23:11

Yes that's gross. I'd be mad too but I'm abit ocd about stuff like that

eldora · 27/03/2022 23:15

Actually, letting your bed air is advised.

You do you and let OP be.

MysweetAudrina · 27/03/2022 23:16

Probably no worse than my cats and dogs who sleep on my bed any chance they get. They do a lot of hole licking while there too.

Sswhinesthebest · 27/03/2022 23:18

I agree, it’s gross.

Sunnyskies24 · 27/03/2022 23:19

I stayed in a hotel once and pushed my small suitcase under the bed to keep it out the way.

One morning I woke to find a large BED BUG in my bed. Just one rogue bed bug. I freaked and checked the bottom of the sheets inside the duvet cover where I knew there would be more. And there were. It was Infested.
Obviously complained to the hotel and got moved to a different room.
When in the new room, I just had a sneaky suspicion that I needed to check the creases of my suitcase. I'd checked it quickly and although I couldn't see any of the big ones I'd already seen loads of in the duvet cover, I found tons of tiny baby ones running through the seams of my suitcase.
I had to throw everything In the bin in the end. Wasn't risking taking any of it home with me.

I have honestly never given your point much thought OP and I'm sure I'm guilty of chucking my suitcase on the bed to unpack when I've got home but this has really got me thinking........
If I hadn't have noticed that one rogue bed bug in my bed that morning, I never would have known they were lurking in the seams of the duvet, under the bed, around the bed and in the folds of my suitcase.
I probably would have chucked that case on my bed when I got home and..........
It doesn't bare to think about.

So therefore YANBU

Well then your bed isn’t lively and fresh on the covers. Envy > not envy
Bibbetyboo · 27/03/2022 23:24

Bedbugs. This is a no-no.

Have you been diagnosed with OCD? Or are you just using it in a flippant way?
