To ask why people use spray deodorants

When roll ons and sticks are more effective, more economical (all the product goes where it is meant to rather than half of it going into the air around you) less polluting and less irritating to the lungs? Seems like a no brainer to me.

OP posts:

I'm a very sweaty person and sprays just don't work. The roll-on 96 hour ones by Sure and Dove are the best for me. Also it smells great, feels gentle on skin and doesn't sting or irritate at all (compared to sprays).

ravenmum · 16/03/2022 17:01

Are plastic-free deodorants not a thing yet in the UK? My favourite is Ben and Anna, which comes in a cardboard tube, or you can get a couple of cream deodorants in recyclable metal pots that you apply with your fingers.

DillDanding · 16/03/2022 17:01

Can’t bear it when women in the gym changing room spray deodorant. It’s so stinky and choking.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 16/03/2022 17:03

I’ve never liked roll-ons or sticks. The tackiness makes me feel grubby. I sparingly use an aerosol, recycling the empty can.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/03/2022 17:06

This thread is baffling. “Why don’t people only wear blue jumpers?” would be an equally valid question.

I use a stick if anyone cares. My DP uses a spray.

PrivateHall · 16/03/2022 17:06

I haven't tried roll ons in years, might give it another go based on this thread. I feel like I go through spray ridiculously fast so wouldn't mind seeing if a roll on lasts longer. I do hate that wet sticky feeling though!

Notanotherwindow · 16/03/2022 17:08

Because roll ons and creams are gross. They're sticky and take too long to dry and leave manky residue that stains my tops. And they dont work for me. I have BO in about an hour.

Spray dries instantly, works better and doesn't mark my clothes.

LondonQueen · 16/03/2022 17:11

Roll one feel cheap and sticky where sprays are much nicer.

gamerchick · 16/03/2022 17:11

You have the time to faff on with creams and shit OP. You carry on doing what you do and the rest of is will carry on doing the things we so. Sprays have be shared, jobs a good un.

Oblomov22 · 16/03/2022 17:18

I hate roll ons and sticks. I prefer a spray.

MorganBrocklehurst · 16/03/2022 17:19

I managed to get through most of my life without needing to use deodorant as I rarely sweated. However, perimenopause changed all that. I starting using either Mitchum roll-on or stick, but I developed a fungal infection - they didn’t always drying properly due to my many hot flushes and sweats which created a nice damp and warm environment for bacteria to breed. Since then, and on the pharmacist’s advice, I have stuck to the spray - haven’t had an issue since. (HRT has also stopped the near constant sweating too).

I have thought about returning to using a roll-on or stick but the infection was so horrible, I don’t want to tempt fate/find myself in that position again.

Rainbowshit · 16/03/2022 17:19

I disagree that roll ons and sticks are more effective. They make me feel sticky and moist under my armpits and I feel like I drip with sweat.

Oblomov22 · 16/03/2022 17:21

Because your title and OP are very confrontational. And now in your recent posts your backtracking, asking what the problem is? Hmm

Jellykat · 16/03/2022 17:22

I and my DSs havent used aerosol deodorants for years, theyre shit for the environment.
I sweat like a good'un in the Summer, being of a certain age and doing physical work.. Sanex roll-on does me fine, and leaves no residue on my clothes.

Quackpot · 16/03/2022 17:24

Why use it at all op? You could always just wash with soap and water instead, much more economical

MindfulMarch · 16/03/2022 17:26

@WomanStanleyWoman

Roll-ins usually contain gelatine. I don’t use animal products.
Dove deodorants have not been certified as vegan, however, Dove has confirmed that they do not contain any animal-derived ingredient. Dove has received a PETA accreditation for being cruelty-free and has not tested on animals

@CounsellorTroi

I like spray on, but I don't use it because I get it on the carpet. Not sure why I can't get it on without doing that, but there you go.

I use Dove Original Roll On - it's lovely, not at all sticky or claggy! And has never let me down! (The other fragrances don't work as well on me) I don't time how long it takes to dry, I just get dressed, no issues.

I guess people use sprays because it's what they prefer!

I should use a more natural stick (because of the plastic in roll on 'Applicators' but I haven't found one I like. I might try again soon, but right now it's one of the fees things where it's reliable, constant & affordable!!

dementedma · 16/03/2022 17:28

I stopped using it during lockdown and never restarted. Bath/shower daily and no smelly pits. Wish I'd done it sooner.

ThursdayLastWeek · 16/03/2022 17:29

I get fungal infections when I use anything other than a spray deo and I smell if it doesn’t have anti perspirant in it.

DetailMouse · 16/03/2022 17:29

My dad has been saying this all my life. There's no need if you wash properly regularly and he's always been religious about an evening bath and a strip wash in the mornings. He has always smelt.

@Oblomov22

Ok I didn’t phrase it well, in hindsight would have been better phrased as Am I being unreasonable to think roll ons and stick deodorant are better, and better for the environment, then added a vote.
OP posts:
doadeer · 16/03/2022 17:31

I don't find roll ons very effective, I keep trying but always go back to sure

WeirdlyKind · 16/03/2022 17:33

Lots of things are shit for the environment- showering daily, washing clothes after one wear, flying, having kids.

I don't have kids which is better for the environment than two squirts of deo every day...

Whawasthat · 16/03/2022 17:34

I don’t like roll on, feels unpleasant to me.
Sprays feel fresher, cool me down instantly on a hot day, can give a quick all over body spray.
I share the can with dp.
Two boys who share a can of whatever male scent is purchased that week, usually lynx.

Pluto301 · 16/03/2022 17:35

I use both. I thought everyone did.
Roll on first and then dry it with the spray on top.

caringcarer · 16/03/2022 17:37

I hate the sticky sticks but like the dry sticks such as Dove. Then if very hot I do a quick spray too.
