To ask why people use spray deodorants

When roll ons and sticks are more effective, more economical (all the product goes where it is meant to rather than half of it going into the air around you) less polluting and less irritating to the lungs? Seems like a no brainer to me.

@youdoyoutoday

Agree, some of them stink to high heaven 🤮
I have a condition where my sweat glands get infected and clogged easily. I cannot use roll on or stick as it complicates matters.
TimBoothseyes · 16/03/2022 16:32

Because I want to.

TheSpottedZebra · 16/03/2022 16:33

@CheshireChat

You want a dr to prescribe deodorants?! I can hardly get hold of the medicine I've been prescribed
Blimey, isn't the NHS busy enough? Grin
fairylightsandwaxmelts · 16/03/2022 16:34

@LadyinRead

It’s That the sensation in my armpits makes me want to claw myself to shreds. I'm sorry for misunderstanding. Perhaps the sprays should only be available on prescription then.
Do you not think doctors have better things to do? Hmm
WeirdlyKind · 16/03/2022 16:35

Because the roll ons and sticks never dry on me and have caused me some horrible reactions in the past. Because I prefer a spray.

CounsellorTroi · 16/03/2022 16:35

Why is it so unacceptable to ask a question? There would be very few threads in AIBU if no one asked general questions.

Of course everyone has a choice about what they use. I’m not some sort of fascist.

And no it’s not a TAAT. Though anyone is welcome to report it as such if you want.

OP posts:
WetLookKnitwear · 16/03/2022 16:36

Do you really find it that difficult to imagine why people use a roll on deodorant? Couldn’t you have brain stormed some of the reasons yourself

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 16/03/2022 16:37

As PP’s have said, roll ons are horrible and sticky. I’m not a particularly smelly person and my spray is perfectly fine for me. I’ll stick with that thanks.

BellatrixOnABadDay · 16/03/2022 16:37

Perspirex or Driclor are the best IMO- roll on at night (NOT after shaving armpits though!). Properly stops any sweating/odour.

Couldn't give a toss what other people use. Honestly how bored must you be to start a judgy thread over deodorant.

Toottooot · 16/03/2022 16:39

Jist dinna like em ken.

Butnp it's not just asking a question, it was telling everyone they're wrong, and these are the reasons why. And then finding it hard to believe that different people are... different.

This.

PuzzledObserver · 16/03/2022 16:45

I got fed up of holding my arms away from my sides for 5 minutes while the roll on dried. Or using a hairdryer.

As for the smell - you can get ones which are virtually unperfumed. I use Sure Extra Dry Cotton Fresh, it smells of nothing. And one can lasts months, so it’s hardly breaking the bank. I wait till they’re on offer and buy three.

Readyforspring · 16/03/2022 16:46

Because i want to.
Because roll ons make me feel sweaty / sticky. And ive tried brands and cheaper ones.

WeirdlyKind · 16/03/2022 16:47

@LadyinRead

I agree completely OP! Spray deodorants should be banned, especially in gym changing rooms.Keep your fumes and repulsive scents to yourself, thank you very much!

Salt of the Earth stick is excellent and has no aroma whatsoever.

Unscented sprays are available. I tried natural deo once - after 12 hours in a busy kitchen, I absolutely stank. It didn't do a thing. I'm sure that's more offensive than a blast of Sure in each pit.
CLC22 · 16/03/2022 16:48

I have a medical condition which means I can’t use roll on so I use spray 🤷🏼‍♀️

Pllink · 16/03/2022 16:50

Roll ons feel disgusting and unless you only ever use it after the shower (no touch ups at any point, before going out etc) you're going to end up with dead skin, dirt, hair etc on them. The thought of rolling that on my skin is 🤮

EmpressCixi · 16/03/2022 16:52
@Lesperance unless I’m mistaken, bathroom
fans don’t lessen the damage done by VOCs to the planet. The chemicals in aerosols like deodorant goes into the atmosphere to create a smog that is extremely harmful to human health snd the environment, it has more of a damaging impact than the output of ALL cars.

I’d expect that aerosols will be banned completely eventually like they are in some Nordic countries.
This^

In fact, according to a 2021 University of York study aerosols- deodorants, air fresheners, furniture polish- currently contribute more to smog in the U.K. than all the cars do.

When roll ons and sticks are more effective
Not necessarily, I've found some sprays are more effective than some roll-ons or sticks.

more economical
Not necessarily, depends on how effectively you spray!

less polluting and less irritating to the lungs?
Not necessarily, I spray and walk away, not irritating to my lungs at all and makes my bathroom smell nice!

Seems like a no brainer to me.
So what you are really saying that people who use spray deodorants are inferior to you and a bit stupid? You really can't understand that someone else just likes something different to you? Because the knowledge that different people like different things is a bit of a no-brainer for me!

steff13 · 16/03/2022 16:52

@Thoosa

Why do you struggle with other people having different preferences and priorities?

Is this a new genres of thread?

“Why do you drink coffee?”

“Why do you drive an estate car?”

“Why aren’t you vegan?”

Confused

I have seen a lot of these threads where the OP has this faux wide-eyed, "I just don't understand," when it's perfectly obvious that it's just personal preference. The tone is very much that the OP wants other posters to justify their "bad" choices.
ProudAS · 16/03/2022 16:53

Nothing wrong with people using spray deodorant in their own homes but I'd like to see it banned in swimming pool changing rooms etc. It can cause problems to people with asthma.

yayforsun · 16/03/2022 16:54

I'd guess it's because some people are still unaware of how bad sprays are in terms of disrupting hormones. cancer etc. Funnily enough the shiny adverts never mention the many chemicals that go into sprays and some roll ons.

Pinkpepper79 · 16/03/2022 16:54

Roll ons are unhygienic, they don't smell very nice they clog up around the outside. They don't feel nice on the skin and sting after you have shaved, they irritate the skin under your arms, not as effective

Mommabear20 · 16/03/2022 16:54

Because roll on are awful!

EmpressCixi · 16/03/2022 16:55

@VeganVampire

Showering everyday is an environmental disaster - all of the wasted drinking water, power to clean it and move it and then energy to heat it. Better to shower every other day and have a quick blast with the deodorant can - much better for the world.
It’s not an either or. You can shower less AND not use smog causing polluting aerosol spray deodorant.
