To ask why people use spray deodorants

When roll ons and sticks are more effective, more economical (all the product goes where it is meant to rather than half of it going into the air around you) less polluting and less irritating to the lungs? Seems like a no brainer to me.

@Lesperance unless I’m mistaken, bathroom
fans don’t lessen the damage done by VOCs to the planet. The chemicals in aerosols like deodorant goes into the atmosphere to create a smog that is extremely harmful to human health snd the environment, it has more of a damaging impact than the output of ALL cars.

I’d expect that aerosols will be banned completely eventually like they are in some Nordic countries.

@MrsPerfect12

I use both, am I alone in this? Roll on for pits and spray for the other bits eg under boobs etc.
Errmmm, I've never sprayed under my tits. Is this a thing ?
Highlandrainbows · 16/03/2022 15:52

As an autistic person and as someone with skin sensitivity I find that spray deodorant was less of a sensory overload and also didn't hurt my skin.

LittleGwyneth · 16/03/2022 15:52

I like spray because if I'm feeling a bit less than fresh it feels like more of a top-up and will freshen things up better.

Me too.

I periodically try till on or stick and end up clawing under my arms til I make myself bleed. The sensation of them is overwhelmingly horrible.

nattiee · 16/03/2022 15:53

I can't use roll on as it blocks my pores and causes me to get cysts in my armpits. They are so painful!

NeedAHoliday2021 · 16/03/2022 15:54

@userxx I now spray under my boobs when it’s hot - I’m DD and 40… only started in the last couple of years since they got more droopy Blush

Pyewhacket · 16/03/2022 15:55

I use men's Adidas Sport deoderant. It's the only stuff that works when I'm at work. I guess they may do roll-on or stick but not in our house.

Cleothecat75 · 16/03/2022 15:56

I’ve been using sprays for years, but recently bought a roll on for dd 11. She has ASD and can’t stand the sticky ness of it, so because we have no spare cash and I dislike waste, I’ve been using it. I am not a convert and don’t like it. If we weren’t broke, I’d chuck it in the bin, but I’m using to save cash. I can’t wait to go back to my sprays.

Cubangal · 16/03/2022 15:58

Because they work

1forAll74 · 16/03/2022 15:58

Have you tried a roll on one on one arm pit,, and a spray on one on the other arm pit. to tell the effectivness of either...This is if you have the time to do such boring experiments ! I use both types, and don't have a problem with either.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 16/03/2022 15:59

I don’t really see it as pollution in my home as I like the smell after choosing one I like. It’s nothing like Lynx Africa that grabs you by the back of the throat.

Benjispruce5 · 16/03/2022 16:02

I’ve always used a roll on as they last ages. Just switched to Fussy after watching Dragons Den and it smells lovely and works just as well.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 16/03/2022 16:02

Ahhh, the heady combination of Lynx Africa and Impulse, as overused by teens everywhere for decades!
I used to know where my sister had been by the trail of impulse - swear she used 1/3 of a can each time. And my brother had EVERYTHING in Lynx Africa, so he was easy to track too.

LadyinRead · 16/03/2022 16:02

I agree completely OP! Spray deodorants should be banned, especially in gym changing rooms.Keep your fumes and repulsive scents to yourself, thank you very much!

Salt of the Earth stick is excellent and has no aroma whatsoever.

So what would I be able to use if they were banned?
SirenSays · 16/03/2022 16:04

My roll on is great but it literally says wait until it dries before dressing and it can take an hour to dry so I can only use it at night. During the day I use a spray

LadyinRead · 16/03/2022 16:05

Er, see the remainder of my message… i.e., Salt of the Earth!

toastfiend · 16/03/2022 16:06

I use roll ons and sprays, but roll-ons often give me nasty allergic reactions. I very rarely have that issue with sprays. I also find sprays to be more effective for me, smell less obviously "deodorant-y", feel more comfortable immediately after application and are less likely to leave white marks on my clothes.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 16/03/2022 16:06

@SirenSays - I found that it didn't matter how long I waited, they never properly dried, which is why I gave up using them.

AchillesPoirot · 16/03/2022 16:07

Er, I can’t use sticks on roll ons. See my previous posts.

I stretch myself until I bleed with them. The itch is overwhelming. (I’m most likely autistic and I have sensory issues)

AchillesPoirot · 16/03/2022 16:07

*scratch

ouch321 · 16/03/2022 16:10

@FoxyFoxyLoxy

Sprays are disgusting, my teenage children waft around in a cloud of Lynx or Impulse or whatever the cheap headache-inducing ones are called. Foul.

Roll ons aren't sticky, contain a tiny proportion of the packaging and don't damage clothes.

Impulse and Lynx are not anti perspirants. They are body sprays, I.e, a juvenile version of perfume and cologne.
Jedsnewstar · 16/03/2022 16:10

Roll ons are rubbish. Yabu

Chasingaftermidnight · 16/03/2022 16:12

All valid points but roll-ons really make me feel ill. The noise, the feel of them, the look of them and the fact that you’re rubbing the same bit of plastic in your pits every day.

The sticks are more tolerable but I’ve never found them very effective.
