When roll ons and sticks are more effective, more economical (all the product goes where it is meant to rather than half of it going into the air around you) less polluting and less irritating to the lungs? Seems like a no brainer to me.

OP posts:

I am a sweaty betty and have tried most.

Roll ons take too long to apply properly if you actually sweat, I only use them when I don't need to go anywhere for a while. You need to be completely dry before applying and the effective ones like Sure 72 hour and Mitchum take 20 mins plus to dry plus the hairdryer if I need to leave for work on time.

AchillesPoirot · 16/03/2022 15:29
That isn’t an antiperspirant though is it? It’s just a deodorant?
TheChronicalTales · 16/03/2022 15:30

I also find spray on easier to top up. I can go to the bathroom and have a quick spray mid day. If I do this with roll on I get jumper fluff and other things from my clothes stuck in my pits because the roll on makes me have wet armpits.

LagunaBubbles · 16/03/2022 15:30

Roll ons and sticks work fine for me

Good for you. Clearly you don't realise not everyone will be the same as you. They're rubbish.

FoxyFoxyLoxy · 16/03/2022 15:34

Sprays are disgusting, my teenage children waft around in a cloud of Lynx or Impulse or whatever the cheap headache-inducing ones are called. Foul.

Roll ons aren't sticky, contain a tiny proportion of the packaging and don't damage clothes.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 16/03/2022 15:34

Because I hate the feeling of them and I don't find they work very effectively. My underarms always feel damp and horrible if I've had to use a roll-on for whatever reason.

KnowingMeKnowingYouAhaaaa · 16/03/2022 15:35

I hate roll on, it makes me feel gross, its sticky and you have to touch your sweaty pit with it, yuck. We used to have to use them at school and I hated them, never bought them since.

Hawkins001 · 16/03/2022 15:35

I prefer spray as it's quicker and roll ons are icky with the sticky, as they are sticky

Simonjt · 16/03/2022 15:36

Hair, I don’t always shave my pits, hairy pits and wet roll on really isn’t a pleasant experience, it takes ages to dry as well.

Lesperance · 16/03/2022 15:36

@CounsellorTroi

When you say less polluting - what do you mean?

Roll-ons and sticks are in hard plastic cases. Those plastic cases should be recycled, but that doesn't mean they will be.

I meant less polluting of the air in your home.

Doesn't your bathroom have a fan then?
Qwill · 16/03/2022 15:36

Not great if you have hairy armpits though?

A580Hojas · 16/03/2022 15:37

I use a solid deodorant and when my current one has run out I'm going to buy one of those permanent cases where you buy refills that you replace in the case. So that I'm not throwing unnecessary plastic away.

FoxyFoxyLoxy · 16/03/2022 15:37

And urgh to treating an antiperspirant/deodorant like perfume and spraying it liberally all over you at work or whatever. And then perfume on top? And loads of fabric conditioner on your clothes too.

Bleugh. Canada has the right idea with the "scent-free" workplaces.

AchillesPoirot · 16/03/2022 15:37

I never shave anywhere.

Maybe that’s why I prefer sprays?

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 16/03/2022 15:39

@DetailMouse

I wonder if those complaining that roll ons take too long to dry have used one recently. As a teen, that was certainly true, but modern ones dry instantly.
Yup, not an issue at all.
Scianel · 16/03/2022 15:40

II really don't want to be inhaling a big spray of deodorant or anti-perspirant daily and the scented stuff gives me a headache.

I agree that the roll-on doens't feel great so I use a stick. I use it on my mostly hairy pits and it works fine.

I really wanted to get on with Pit-rok but I just stank of sweat. DH uses it though and it works really well for him. I might try it again though, apparently it takes a while for the pit flora to adjust.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 16/03/2022 15:41

Roll-ons are disgusting - never dry, always sticky, make a mess of clothes.
I moved from roll-on deodorant to spray back in the 1980s when I had to start buying my own - and then when dry sticks came out, I used those instead. I still do use dry sticks, although the range is far smaller, especially in Australia (thankfully Sure [branded as Rexona here] have finally got their act together and do a dry stick for women, but only one!)

I'd sooner go without deodorant than ever use a roll-on again.

Scianel · 16/03/2022 15:42

I'm so glad I don't work in an office any more. This used to make me murderous.
My least favourite was the period of time I sat next to hyena-laugh woman who was outside smoking when she wasn't hyena cackling into her phone. Then she'd come back and spray some awful perfume which would combine with the reek of her Mayfair. I had a permanent headache.
The day she was made redundant was a very happy one.

TeeBee · 16/03/2022 15:42

For me, I can buy one can of spray for the males in my house to share, rather than three different roll-ons.

deadlanguage · 16/03/2022 15:43

I periodically have hairy pits and roll on works fine

ShavingTheBadger · 16/03/2022 15:43

It dries quicker. Plus my local council allows aerosols in my bottles and cans recycling bin but doesn’t recycle plastic.

betwixtlives · 16/03/2022 15:46

Roll ons and sticks work fine for me

yes, FOR YOU 🤦🏽‍♀️

why can’t you understand that something that suits YOU doesn’t suit everyone?

Gonnagetgoing · 16/03/2022 15:47

I used to use one I think from Weleda until I didn't have to use one anymore.

Gonnagetgoing · 16/03/2022 15:48

I mean I used to use a spray one but not aerosol.

PinkGinBigGrin · 16/03/2022 15:49

Roll-ons and sticks don't stop me from sweating. In fact I have to use mens deodorant as even womens ones don't work as well on me!

I also hate the hygiene factor of roll-ons - you are rubbing that same bit under your armpits every day 🤢
