I’ve so so many friends that have these now and really do feel I’m the odd one out
Friends all between 30-45 and look amazing! I’ve got to admit I’m very tempted but a bit nervous and also Ttc one last time, so unsure if it’s safe to do if Ttc???
and should I wait! I’m 40 early next year so was thinking about maybe then!
So how many have tried /or already do it? What’s your thoughts? Good?

Slight Botox I’m fine with and fillers on deep lines fine, ok, that’s not too bad either and can enhance people’s looks. For me the absolute hilarity is the lip fillers. There are literally some women (and men too!) walking around looking like Donald Duck. It has to be a form of body dysmorphia because I’m certain they don’t see how ridiculous and frankly hideous they look.

What are the long term effects of these procedures? Imagine looking back on their pictures in ten years and think wtf was I thinking (just like I do when I see the over plucked brows and mahogany tans of my early 00’s pics)

ANYONE considering lip fillers, don’t do it to yourself you’ll look a mess. 🙊

BananaPlants · 13/03/2022 08:49

I didn’t think I knew many people who had it. But then I went and had it done, with a friend, who had been before, and there were loads of women there who live locally (in and out, it was busy!) and I was astonished because I never saw them as the “type” of women who would have Botox. Not ‘dolled up’ or shiny faced at all.

Then, once I’d had it, I told a few friends. It turned out they had all had it already! And I never would have noticed. Felt quite duped that this had been going on for so long and I just thought I looked rough in photos compared to the others Grin

Now I only notice if someone hasn’t had it done. I’ll just notice it while they are talking, not in a horrible way, just notice the obvious lines on forehead. No-one I know, who I didn’t tell, noticed. Not even my DM, and I don’t think my DH would have. I can’t even see it myself that much, until I look back at old photos and notice the deep lines between my eyebrows - I had no idea they were so obvious and that I looked a bit cross all the time.
**@Getyourarseofffthequattro* A good practitioner doesn't make it obvious.*

How do you explain the millionaires with awful fillers/plastic surgery? It’s so obvious and they look like a totally different person. The women (eg Instagram influencers, Kardashians or The Real Housewives) all end up with the same face. Their skin is so waxy and shiny. Their eyes and eyebrows look strange. They have swollen trout pouts. Their bums are never realistic.
As a pp said, they go overboard. It's really not comparable to having a ml of filler in your cheeks for example. Grin

NeverEndingFireworks · 13/03/2022 08:51

@Dembones292

And for those saying their family and friends can't tell. They can. They're just being polite about it.
This. My DDs friend - mid 20's - has clearly had lip fillers, (as has my hairdresser, who now has trout lips and looks like a cartoon character) Wouldn't dream of commenting. She hasn't got the full trout lip look, but she just doesn't look like herself anymore and her lips are now the first thing you notice.
Hasselhoffsheadband · 13/03/2022 08:53

If it's done well. It is undetectable.

I think this probably applies when you first start getting it done in your 30s/40s, but surely once you have been having it a long time and you are in your 50s/60s with a smooth face, it will start to become obvious?

In the long run I think you're better off looking after your skin, SPF, , don't smoke, maybe some tretinoin, than freezing your face.

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 13/03/2022 08:54

I do think lip filler is more noticeable, especially when you're young and already had full lips. I think it can look amazing on someone who has lost a little volume and has a tiny amount in to put it back.
There's a trend for massive lips, yes, but again that doesn't mean that's what you'll look like if you get it done, that's what they aimed for!

Againstmachine · 13/03/2022 08:55

And for those saying their family and friends can't tell. They can. They're just being polite about it.

There is also the problem is if no one can tell and you look the same, then what was the point.

MajorCarolDanvers · 13/03/2022 08:55

Late 40s muse and never considered this. Don't know anyone who has done it.

Certainly NOT normal where I live.

Cookerhood · 13/03/2022 08:56

I know one person who has had Botox & it just looks silly at over 60. I knew a carer with ridiculous trout lips which I couldn't stop looking at. And all those shiney faces & big lips on TV. Urgh.

I think there's a lot to be said for things that make you feel better, isn't there? You can do things, for you, that you notice, that make you feel better. I don't personally believe in making my self look better for anyone elses benefit! Blush

Botox is just one of a long line of things people, mainly women, have tried in the fight against ageing. I don't see much wrong with a bit of judicious Botox, I get it for frown lines as they make me look haggard and tired and unimpressed with you. There are topical treatments that cost more. It's v v subtle. Even DP had no idea.

What astonishes me more is the younger people messing about with their faces. Ridiculous fake spidery eyelashes and the OTT lip filler on otherwise normal and absolutely fine looking young women. The mind boggles on where they are going to go with it all. It is sad to think we live in a society where people feel so unhappy with their natural looks at such a young age when they are effectively in the prime of life.

drpet49 · 13/03/2022 08:58

Lip fillers look shit

Octomingo · 13/03/2022 08:58

Tends to be younger women with lip filler round here. They're often the ones with drag queen makeup too. The effect ends up being quite mask like and samey.

Want there something on telly about the fact it only actually knocks a couple of years off people's perceptions of your age?

Motherdare · 13/03/2022 08:59

But I guess it might be more prevalent in places where women doll themselves up all the time. E.g. on the tube in London, I can always see lots of women with elaborate full make-up. And lots of premature lines too, near the mouth and around the eyes (being in London ages people prematurely, I guess? I reckon stress and pollution play a part). I imagine Botox and fillers must be in fashion there too.

Love how you write about London like some mystical land full of dolled-up wrinkled stressed out people jabbing themselves with Botox on the tube 😂

Turningpurple · 13/03/2022 09:01

The point shouldn't really to have so much its immediately obvious you had it done.

LynetteScavo · 13/03/2022 09:02

I know two people who have Botox, and yes I can tell because they look better for it, so it's not true you can't tell (or why bother?). One of them once had lip filler, not done badly, but I don't think it was an improvement. I've never commented, so they might think I haven't noticed. One of them had a boob job, and I would never have noticed if she hadn't talked about it.

I know some young women who have had lip fillers. They probably would be better off saving their money tbh. I wouldn't say it's "normal" yet. If I had more money and wasn't such a scaredy-cat I would definitely have some Botox and fillers.

Siameasy · 13/03/2022 09:02

I work out and about with the public and I do notice a lot of duck lips going on plus quite a few school mums have had fillers and are looking very unnerving, alien-like.

Turningpurple · 13/03/2022 09:03

Don't know anyone who has done it.

How do people know that?

I like my unimpressed resting bitch face. Like Karren from The Apprentice. I travel alone a lot in some dicey countries- India, Thailand, Turkey. Used to get hassled in my younger days; these days the men take one look at my frown lines and leave me the fuck alone.
Gensola · 13/03/2022 09:03

I think Botox is a bit different to fillers though, I had Botox to smooth my frown lines - I didn’t want to look angry all the time as I had very deep hereditary vertical frown lines. I haven’t had anything else done and it also doesn’t look “unnatural” it just looks how my forehead used to look before the frown lines developed. I also don’t care if people notice - I prefer my forehead without two massive lines down the middle, and as it’s my head I’ll be the one making the choices! I don’t mind other wrinkles like crows feet as they look happy and nice, so I’ve left those 😁

JanisMoplin · 13/03/2022 09:04

Oh also I am angry all the time at the state of the world, so I am ok with my face reflecting that.

DedalusBloom · 13/03/2022 09:06

I have Botox and lip filler. My practitioner leaves some movement in my forehead but it helps massively with my resting bitch face.
My lips are naturally quite thin and wrinkly and I have just enough to fill them out to a "regular" shape. No stretched skin, duck lips or trout pout here.

I don't know anyone else that gets it, although I have my suspicions about a couple of my more "serene" looking friends. Grin

I'm in London, if that helps. There are certainly many many sights to be seen in and around the capital but I did properly LOL at it being down to stress and pollution!

WeaverofWords · 13/03/2022 09:07

I agree, and I hate it when people say “You can’t tell”. That’s a stupid argument. If someone can tell, they are hardly going to say to you, “Hey! Nice Botox!”, are they? And who are you to judge whether I can tell or not? Even if I can’t, it’s still presenting a fake self.

It’s a sad reflection of the world we live in. People putting all sorts of crap in, and on, and doing all kinds of weird shit to themselves, in the quest for “beauty”. It looks ugly.

Even the thought of it is hideous. Inject my body with what?! For what?! We should watch more what we put in our bodies.

Wtf, this planet?! It should be a privilege to grow old, not an embarrassment.

Againstmachine · 13/03/2022 09:07

Injecting toxins into your face unless for medical reasons isnt a good idea even if it makes you feel better.

doadeer · 13/03/2022 09:07

I think when you have it young (twenties) it's actually really aging. The women end up looking like they are in their thirties or forties. The women from the only way is Essex look a lot older than they are to me, same with paddy m wife.

There's a freshness to youth that you can't replicate. Even if you don't have a line, you can tell someone like cate blanchett isn't 28 but she is stunning.

Can't replicate youth.
