Apparently botox can help reduce symptoms of depression as well
So I read your post, and got quite interested in this claim - hey ho, off to Google I go.
(DISCLAIMER - I am not a scientist, but I am an industry SME and work in / contribute to academic research on a knowledge transfer basis regularly, so I do know quite a lot about how this shit works and in whose interests it works.)
So, first of all, I found this.
All well and good, you may think, until you start looking at a) the research sponsors and b) the methodology.
If you cannot be arsed to do the hard yards, fear not! For I have done it for you.
a) the research was sponsored by the Seton Healthcare Family, a completely random private Catholic hospital in Austin, Texas. I think that's a lot of money to spend on some random research, but hey, what do I know: my money is not invested in the US cosmetic healthcare industry.
b) this is the best bit - (if you're really interested, you can read the full data table, but tbh I wouldn't bother) - the outcome was based on whether or not participants (93% of whom were female, btw) felt better about themselves when looking in a mirror that they did 6 weeks prior. That's it.
As I say, I'm not a scientist, but if somebody would like to offer me some money to this kind of clinical trial, then I am 100% available.
