I’ve so so many friends that have these now and really do feel I’m the odd one out
Friends all between 30-45 and look amazing! I’ve got to admit I’m very tempted but a bit nervous and also Ttc one last time, so unsure if it’s safe to do if Ttc???
and should I wait! I’m 40 early next year so was thinking about maybe then!
So how many have tried /or already do it? What’s your thoughts? Good?

@Jamoffmytoast

Blossomtoes That's scary!
Isn’t it just?
Itsnotover · 13/03/2022 20:24

And nobody has answered my question?

If you think that you look so much better than women who have Botox and fillers then why put them down?

Delatron · 13/03/2022 20:25

I think we’ll therefore have to agree to disagree @Againstmachine

I’m not on any crusade to normalise anything. I’ve had a bit of Botox starting in my mid 40s, about 4 times in 4 years. That’s it. And I think each to their own. No one ‘needs’ to do anything.

Itsnotover · 13/03/2022 20:31

Kylie Minogue and Sharon Osbourne are arguably examples of people who look better than they did in their younger years because of the good but subtle work they have had.

It’s none of your business who has Botox and why or who has fillers and why or who has other plastic surgery and why. Just like it’s none of your business if someone doesn’t dye their hair and wants it naturally gray.

It’s rude and bitchy to comment negatively on anyones looks or clothes, whether it’s because you don’t like them or you think they look old or you think they are unattractive.

Just do your own thing and let other people do theirs and stop being spiteful.

whumpthereitis · 13/03/2022 20:33

@Againstmachine

No good work is good on people who don't need it.

You seem to be on a crusade to normalise the abnormal.

Lol. No one ‘needs’ a lot of things, we still get them though. Life would be very spartan, and frankly dull, if we only did the things we needed to do.

Thankfully, your standards aren’t universal. You not liking it won’t stop anyone from getting work if they do. It also doesn’t change the fact that it is normalized. Maybe work on coping with the realities in front of you that you can’t change. rather than pointlessly berating other women for what they do with their own faces.

Octomingo · 13/03/2022 20:37

itsnotover now I think Osborne and Minogue have ruined their faces, as they don't look like themselves. It's like they get a younger, generic face. We only tend to see them on tv with very bright lights shining on their faces too.

Blossomtoes · 13/03/2022 20:37

Sharon Osborne’s work is anything but subtle. The before and after don’t look like the same person.

This isn’t about individual women’s choices about doing whatever they like to their faces. It’s about a society that makes women feel the need to obliterate every sign of age as if ageing is shameful. A society that’s made youth a deity at whose altar we feel obliged to worship.

It’s about women becoming invisible as they get older, all the derogatory terms applied to women all prefaced by “old”. Old bag, old trout.

Every woman in the public eye is pressurised to fight back the years and that trickles down to the rest of us. How many women would make the choice to have stuff injected into her face if society wasn’t telling her age is ugly?

Good job I never said any of your long diatribe, and was commenting ona woman who was advocating facelifts.

Women are free to do what they want , by same token women are free to take piss out of those that do.

Oh and the coping with realities is patronising as hell so do fuck off.

But yet it's not okay to take the piss out of people who don't and are visibly aging? Why?
Sjbythesea · 13/03/2022 20:45

I recently turned 46 and have had eye trough fillers and profhilo. I also had my eyebrows micro bladed which made the biggest difference.
Each to their own…must say the treatments have made me feel better about myself.

Or, you know, feel free to continue frothing. Far be it for me to pass comment on your hobbies.

Moonface123 · 13/03/2022 20:56

l am 53 and like the way l look. l have no desire to try and halt the natural aging process, it doesn't interest me. l am not ashamed or fearful of growing older, quite the opposite, and it is incredibly freeing, l am at total peace with the woman l have become, its a beautiful thing.

Notwithittoday · 13/03/2022 20:57

I live in an a small town where the mums are quite dressed down, not much makeup, joules outerwear… I know at least three have them late thirties have told me in passing they’ve had Botox so I suspect it’s a lot more. I think it’s quite common and looks fine usually. Fillers are more tricky and I don’t know as many delving into that area

Blossomtoes · 13/03/2022 21:03

How would you even do that?

The point being made is that on this thread its ok to laugh at women's faces and say they look ridiculous, grotesque, old, like porn stars, aliens and animals, provided the woman has had cosmetic treatments. Should a fraction of these insults be directed at any other women, the thread would probably have been reported.
Blossomtoes · 13/03/2022 21:18

You still haven’t answered my question @5128gap. How would you take the piss out of women who don’t have those treatments? And why haven’t you reported the thread if you think that’s the case?

Againstmachine · 13/03/2022 21:30

Stop it with personal comments. I've not mentioned anything about you.

I wouldn't take the piss out of them. Or out of any woman for her appearance. But it doesn't take much imagination to know how an older woman could be insulted. We hear it often enough after all. I haven't reported the thread because I prefer debate to censorship and to challenge things I find offensive rather than have them hidden from sight, but that's another discussion.

You are me! Except I'm 56. I'm honestly ok with the way I look. In fact after a good night's sleep I'm better than ok. Why would I want to close the age gap on my 24 year old daughter? It's her turn to enjoy the full glow and shine of youth. I don't want to be in some bizarre competition with her
CassieMc543 · 13/03/2022 21:49

I do find women/men more attractive who are natural and haven't had work done but if it makes you feel better go for it! I personally get a little filler in my top lip as it's really small naturally and makes my face look more in proportion. I go about a year/18 months inbetween appointments as it lasts a while on me an keeps them from going ducky. Also 0.5ml each time. I don't care if people notice or not as it makes me feel better. I'm 31.

PandoraP · 13/03/2022 21:50

No one here in their 50s are saying they are competing with 20 year olds or removing anyone else’s “glow and shine” of youth, are they? You are so dramatic 😂

hamstersarse · 13/03/2022 21:50

Anyone who thinks looks don’t matter is kidding themselves

I know lots of people with Botox and fillers - late 40s - and it’s just a nothing. Most people I wouldn’t know they’ve had jt done at first glance but they look good for their age, those that are more noticeable tend to want that look. Might not be to everyone’s taste but that’s none of my business frankly.

There is obviously something about the marketing, telling women they are past it when older etc. which is uncomfortable but such is the world in every way - imo there’s no need for the personal criticism. Women are also told they must shave, but rarely is there such personal comment about women doing that

We really are our own worst enemy sometimes, if Fiona down the road has had Botox….so what? Who cares. It’s not mandatory, do it if you want to, if not, quit the bitching

RachelGreep87 · 13/03/2022 21:54

Another important issue is ageism in the workplace.
A fresher looking face could be the difference between getting a job at 55 versus never working again.

Perhaps not relevant to the NHS/Civil Service job security gang but a very real concern in the private sector

I was thinking this. The idea of competing with my DD, or any other young woman, much less stealing their glow and shine, has never once crossed my mind when I have my drop of botox to look a bit less frowny. Grin
