I’ve so so many friends that have these now and really do feel I’m the odd one out
Friends all between 30-45 and look amazing! I’ve got to admit I’m very tempted but a bit nervous and also Ttc one last time, so unsure if it’s safe to do if Ttc???
and should I wait! I’m 40 early next year so was thinking about maybe then!
So how many have tried /or already do it? What’s your thoughts? Good?

When I watched The Undoing I found it hard to believe Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman are only 6 years apart. Such a powerful illustration of the difference in the way men and women are seen. He looks every bit of his 60 years. She looks 35.

Delatron · 13/03/2022 19:23

I was worried about muscle atrophy with Botox which is why I didn’t start until 43 and I’ve only had it a few times. I have profilho and use devices but occasionally give in and have a small dose.

I follow a well known beauty journalist who posted about ‘preventative Botox’. Now I’m not convinced as I think other muscles is take over and the wrinkles need to go somewhere. However she quoted the ‘twin study’. One twin had Botox for 13 years starting as a preventative measure and the other didn’t. I have to be honest the Botox twin does look better (Google it). But it’s unclear what age she is. I do think at some point you need to move away from Botox and do other tweaks or a facelift.

Delatron · 13/03/2022 19:24

I don’t think Nicole Kidman looks 35. I’m a fan of subtle work but hers is not great and I do think she went too far.

Gridhopper · 13/03/2022 19:25

It’s interesting that many of the anti Botox/filler replies use the ‘you look/you will look weird/unattractive’ argument while simultaneously telling people they’re placing too much value on the way they look. Either it matters what (you think) someone looks like, or it doesn’t

Againstmachine · 13/03/2022 19:26

No you bloody dont stop posting this rubbish, trying to push people into this.

Noone needs a facelift, so do get lost with this.

mycatisannoying · 13/03/2022 19:27

Mumsnet is generally very down on these things.
I am 47 and have never had either done. My mum and sister get Botox and look fabulous. Very natural. As with anything, it depends on who you get to do it!
And I must admit that I am tempted.

Delatron · 13/03/2022 19:28

@Againstmachine you sound angry!

I mean if you want to go down that route. Of course not everyone needs to have a facelift.

I absolutely agree she went too far. I don't think it's a good idea to look 35 when you are 55. Especially not when you are an actress and need to show emotion. I can't watch Nicole any more. ( sure she is heartbroken about that:))
Delatron · 13/03/2022 19:30

Yes she definitely can’t emote @JanisMoplin and that’s not good when you’re an actress.

Kdubs1981 · 13/03/2022 19:31

I think generally speaking all these cosmetic procedures tend to age you. You older, but well preserved.

It does make me laugh how many women say "if it's done well you can't tell." Something to tell yourself, but rarely true

Wagsandclaws · 13/03/2022 19:32

@Delatron do you follow Alice Hart Davies? I think she's very good and very informative.

I did loads of research before having my surgery and wanted to see some good examples of the work my surgeon has done ( he does facelift and neck lifts about 4/5 times a week ) and there are loads of pics online of what he's done.

I saved for quite a while for my surgery and the more weight I lost the worse my neck became. I think it's worth going to a professional for any work Botox or otherwise. It worries me how many 'beauty therapists' are doing Botox Ect and I agree that the industry should be regulated.

I also don't necessarily subscribe to the 'wrinkles have to go somewhere' if you get Botox.

I have some wrinkles under my eyes that I suppose I could address with micro needling or profilo or something but I don't want to have a super smooth face at my age so I think I'll keep them Grin

It's about finding an aesthetics dr who does good work. If you are a walking advert for it they will want to do their very best for their client.

Kdubs1981 · 13/03/2022 19:33

@PinkNails1

So many people think they’ve had a subtle “tweakment” but I think they can be really obvious. So many women in their 20s and 30s have all sorts of fillers and it makes 30 year olds look like they’re 40 trying to look 25. Most have a shiny surprised face.

I don't know what age she looks but I think she looks bloody fantastic for 54!

I had my first Botox last month. I went to a reputable doctor with 25 years experience and there's still loads of movement it just doesn't wrinkle in the same way. I don't know if anyone has clocked but my cleaner hasn't - or secretly dislikes me and was having a dig - as she was saying how awful Sheridan Smith looks and she doesn't know how people can be vain enough to put poison in their face!

I don't have my nails done, dye my hair or whiten my teeth. Botox is my only beauty treatment really. I do think I look less tired. I have very low brows and hooded eyes and it's lifted them a bit and I think I look fresher. And as long as it makes me feel better about myself I think that's the main thing. Plus it's a welcome afternoon out away from 3 kids.

I've had botox on my 11s since I was 36. I'm now 52. I have no issues with muscle atrophy. No weird wrinkling anywhere else either.
Kdubs1981 · 13/03/2022 19:37

@BananaPlants

I didn’t think I knew many people who had it. But then I went and had it done, with a friend, who had been before, and there were loads of women there who live locally (in and out, it was busy!) and I was astonished because I never saw them as the “type” of women who would have Botox. Not ‘dolled up’ or shiny faced at all.

Then, once I’d had it, I told a few friends. It turned out they had all had it already! And I never would have noticed. Felt quite duped that this had been going on for so long and I just thought I looked rough in photos compared to the others Grin

Now I only notice if someone hasn’t had it done. I’ll just notice it while they are talking, not in a horrible way, just notice the obvious lines on forehead. No-one I know, who I didn’t tell, noticed. Not even my DM, and I don’t think my DH would have. I can’t even see it myself that much, until I look back at old photos and notice the deep lines between my eyebrows - I had no idea they were so obvious and that I looked a bit cross all the time.

Gosh that last paragraph is bordering on delusional. You can't tell when people have had it done, but you can tell if they haven't.?! The answer is binary for a start! 🤣
PinkSyCo · 13/03/2022 19:39

There's a Ben Elton book that saw this coming. This other Eden? When a character meets an older woman without cosmetic surgery and can't believe how deformed she is.

With the amount of totally brainwashed women around I can see this becoming a reality in the not too distant future. It’s actually pretty scary and sad. And all the while the practitioners and cosmetic surgeons are laughing all the way to the bank.

Delatron · 13/03/2022 19:39

That’s good to know for those saying no muscle atrophy. My (very good doctor) basically says it’s a good thing if I can’t frown (I overuse these muscles). I can still raise forehead.

Yes @Wagsandclaws it’s Alice Hart-Davies who looks quite frankly amazing! And I do respect her opinion. I’m hoping the wrinkles don’t go elsewhere! They don’t seem to on her. Maybe it’s not a thing.

Againstmachine · 13/03/2022 19:39

I'm not angry you posted that people at some point may need to move on to a facelift.

You may want these tweaks fair enough but no way should we be normalising such rubbish is harmful to our children.

1FootInTheRave · 13/03/2022 19:40

I see an awful lot of women through work and imo, it has become very mainstream.

More so the lip fillers, almost always combined with fake eyelashes which are now definitely mainstream.

Delatron · 13/03/2022 19:43

I disagree that all these procedures age you. If that was the case every Hollywood actress would look older than their ages. And they don’t. Many look fab some have overdone it.

Kdubs1981 · 13/03/2022 19:44

@a12356777

Jesus so many judgemental women if you don’t like it don’t get it done. I’m not judging others for not having it. 32 is a perfect age to start - even younger is better as Botox is preventative it doesn’t cure wrinkles just makes them look better and smooths them out but there still there mildly. If you have no wrinkles at all and have Botox in your twenties it will completely prevent them.
It ludicrous to think that these decisions do not have an impact on women as a whole and the unrealistic expectations of beauty. Pressure to do these things lest we should be seen as "old" or undesirable. After all women are just there to be attractive, no?

It is naive to think that people make these choice in a vacuum, unaffected by society around them!

Itsnotover · 13/03/2022 19:45

The reason women are nasty about others who have Botox and fillers is jealousy. If you really thought they looked terrible, you wouldn’t need to be so bitchy.

If you’re happy to age normally and not change anything, good for you. Just stop being a bitch about other peoples choices.

PinkSyCo · 13/03/2022 19:47

So delusional. Confused

Itsnotover · 13/03/2022 19:48

@PinkSyCo

What gives you the right to bitch about how other people look?

Delatron · 13/03/2022 19:49

@Againstmachine yes people who are happy to have tweakments. Not the general public and what has it go to do with children?

My point was, Botox may only work for so long - for those having Botox, so you either stop or may have to move on to something else such as a facelift. If you are happy to age naturally that doesn’t apply to you.
