Why do people insist on smoking in doorways!?

If you want to go into a shop or a pub why is it acceptable to get blasted in the face with second hand smoke?

You go to a CHILDREN’S play park where you'll find groups of parents smoking....
School gates....

I mean Really!!!!

Why isn't smoking banned in outdoor public places yet!?

It's crazy.

No normal person would think it socially acceptable to have extreme body odour or drop smelly fart bombs in the presence of other people but smokers seem to think it’s perfectly fine to have their vile and smelly ciggies polluting everyone else’s airspace. Smokers are gross.

Smokers are all the same are they?

Or you know, do you think there's a tiny chance they might all be individuals with individual ways of smoking, including not polluting everyone else's airspace?

MarthaFokker · 13/03/2022 01:02

I'm not even a smoker and yet I find the ignorance and hypocrisy from some on this thread astounding.

vodkaredbullgirl · 13/03/2022 01:04

I'm sure there will be another smoking thread in the next week or two.

See you all in a week or 2 Smile

Monty27 · 13/03/2022 01:04

@MarthaFokker I always used this argument at work when management patronised us smokers at work.
So ban sugar and shut the bar then!

ManateeFair · 13/03/2022 01:15

I’m not a smoker and I’m glad people can’t smoke in indoor venues any more but I’m not remotely bothered by people smoking outside.

Dishh · 13/03/2022 01:15

Were your management picking you up on the number of smoking breaks you might have taken versus the regular staff population? That would seem to be usual grief - at least when I worked in HR. It was nothing to do with smoking vs sugar or alcohol, etc., or the nature of the addiction itself - just the amount of time taken away from duties.

Beammeupscotty1 · 13/03/2022 01:28

Grow up, you breathe in worse from car fumes every day

Peoniesandpeaches · 13/03/2022 01:38

Given that nearly 1/3 of smoking households live below the poverty line some of the horrific ways people are describing smokers feels really crass.

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 13/03/2022 01:58

Because they want shelter but it's illegal to smoke indoors.

No, because they are selfish. That's it, no other reason

You're not going to die from that

You're not going to die from someone shooting up heroin but people tend to be against that happening in doorways.

If there was a total ban on smoking, there would be a HUGE tax loss which you, OP, and all the other moaners would have to cover.

Any loss in tax revenue would more than be made up from not having to treat the plethora of diseases and health conditions smokers get.

Given that nearly 1/3 of smoking households live below the poverty line some of the horrific ways people are describing smokers feels really crass.

The average smoker smokes around 10 cigarettes a day and the average price of a 20 pack is £11.99. So the average smoker spends over £2180 a year on cigarettes, which would go a long way to helping those who live below the poverty line.

KeepYaHeadUp · 13/03/2022 02:15

YANBU - it's disgusting and it should be banned in public places.

1forAll74 · 13/03/2022 02:38

I would smoke outside a pub, you have to do it in the wind and rain too., so its quite awful !!

sashh · 13/03/2022 02:41

@MrsTerryPratchett

We ARE forced to breathe it in?

For about ten seconds once a week. If that. I cannot fathom that it happens so much to you.

However I do think the use of multiple exclamation marks should be banned!!!

Unless you work in a hospital, when it is every day going to and leaving work, and walking to another department, and going to the canteen...
Monty27 · 13/03/2022 02:55

@dishh no I wasn't being pulled for smoke breaks it was an iip award exercise where smokers were being offered cessation support. A tick box exercise.
Nothing about obesity or drug addiction. Just smokers. As usual.

nokidshere · 13/03/2022 03:05

Unless you work in a hospital, when it is every day going to and leaving work, and walking to another department, and going to the canteen...

The vast majority of hospitals have had a 'no smoking on the premises (indoor or outdoor) for years already'. And those that didn't have now as of April 2020 when ALL trusts were required to ban smoking anywhere on the premises (indoor or outdoor)

mnnewbie111 · 13/03/2022 03:16

lol, chill

CJsGoldfish · 13/03/2022 03:23

Smokers will turn themselves inside out to justify what they do so this thread is no surprise.
Doesn't change the fact that it is a vile habit that makes them stink and the air around them stink. Doesn't change the selfishness of choosing to do something so harmful when a parent. There really is no justification for imposing on other people the way smokers do but, as seen in this and many other threads, it doesn't stop them trying. Even playing 'whataboutism' doesn't change the facts.
The people smoking in public places are simply not going to care what you think because that's who they are. In their minds, it is their right to impose their pointless, disgusting habit on you 🤷‍♀️

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/03/2022 03:33

You're not going to die from someone shooting up heroin but people tend to be against that happening in doorways.

Well I'd rather carry naloxone and try to save a life than be 'against' people. I've been around people shooting up opiates for 30 years. They have always been more at risk than me.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/03/2022 03:36

And just BTW a lot of the people defending smokers on here aren't smokers. I don't smoke. I just hate the 'baddies' nonsense.

And we all know how often smokers stick to the rules.
EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 13/03/2022 04:00

The ashtrays are on the walls outside the doors of the pubs I go to, might be why there's always people smoking there.

If I'm in a pub it's because I'm having a break from my children, I think more pubs should be childfree . I'd rather walk through a cloud of smoke on my way in any day of the week

Each to their own

Riseholme · 13/03/2022 04:37

I don’t smoke but I do drink presumably like most of pp’s.
Smokers are much less likely to harm others than drinkers.
Unless we are prepared to ban alcohol consumption then it’s hypocritical to pillory smokers.

bridgi70 · 13/03/2022 06:11

@vodkaredbullgirl

Think you need a Gin to calm down, or maybe a fag Grin
Think you need a smoke and let the adults talk this one out.

I am not surprised it’s hard for you to fathom things.
