SMOKERS

Why do people insist on smoking in doorways!?

If you want to go into a shop or a pub why is it acceptable to get blasted in the face with second hand smoke?

You go to a CHILDREN’S play park where you'll find groups of parents smoking....
School gates....

I mean Really!!!!

Why isn't smoking banned in outdoor public places yet!?

It's crazy.

@BottleBrushTree

Smokers are selfish and disgusting.
I would rather eat a packet of benson and hedges than spend time with judgmental people like yourself.
Blossomtoes · 13/03/2022 14:07

I’d also prefer designated smoking areas in pub gardens to allow non smokers etc to enjoy a drink and meal outside without it.

But only between April and September, eh? Because obviously smokers are welcome to be anywhere outside in December when it’s lashing down with rain.

Clarabe1 · 13/03/2022 14:09

By far the biggest cost to the NHS is obesity. I think we should shame fat people who eat McDonald’s. Weigh them and humiliate them if they try and buy a burger,
Alcohol costs the NHS millions and causes anti social behaviour and misery for many. People who get drunk are disgusting.
Actually I don’t think think any of those things but do you see how it works?

Hope everyone being so judgy is perfect?

Pedallleur · 13/03/2022 14:42

Dont mind the smoking oudoors but a lot of smokers throw the butt ends on the floor

Catmemes · 13/03/2022 15:16

Nah, of course you're not guaranteed to die as a result of smoking but it's a fact that most lung cancers are caused by smoking. As I've said, lung cancer killed my mum at 57yo several months ago, she'd not smoked for years either. I can assure you there was nothing easy about her illness or her death.

Catmemes · 13/03/2022 15:18

Oh, my point there was that having seen the results of smoking up close, I did obviously research lung cancer.

Momicrone · 13/03/2022 15:19

Clara be 1, over eating, over drinking, and any smoking, is bad for you, so yeah all as bad as each other

chaosrabbitland · 13/03/2022 15:23

@MangoSeason

You would love my Aussie state, OP

“Outdoor smoke-free public areas

No smoking:

at and within 5 metres of public transport waiting points such as bus stops, taxi ranks, and ferry terminals
at or within 10 metres of campsites and public facilities at national parks such as:
picnic tables
toilet blocks
barbecues
visitor information centres
roofed shelters
jetties, boat ramps and landing stages
at or within 10 metres of playing and viewing areas during organised under-18 sporting events
within 5 metres of non-residential building entrances
at outdoor pedestrian malls
at government precincts around certain state government buildings (including the land around prescribed buildings and adjacent footpaths and nature strips)
at or within 10 metres of public skate parks and children’s outdoor playground equipment
at patrolled beaches between the flags
at public swimming facilities
at prescribed outdoor swimming areas (e.g. artificial beaches and lagoons)
at major sports or events facilities.”

Plus we have smoker’s pens which are tiny fenced off smoking areas outside concert and sporting facilities.

hopefully the op will be joining you soon along with many of the others who share her judgemental views
Catmemes · 13/03/2022 15:26

I don't judge smokers for being addicted but I don't actually think the 'I'm gonna smoke even more just to spite people' type attitudes are very clever. I think people, especially those who have children, should probably try and take care of their bodies as much as they can, why increase any risk of dying prematurely 🙄

Obese people and alcoholics are not preventing people from breathing fresh air. Which is what the original post was about. Logical fallacy.

You can be a fat alcoholic who also drives and smokes.
BasiliskStare · 13/03/2022 15:50

There are inconsiderate people people all ways round. Dog walkers who do not pick up the poo ( I know another MN thing ) Smokers who smoke where it is obvious might annoy others , people who shout in the street when you are trying to get to sleep , people who park their cars over your driveway , those who sit on your steps because the pub garden chairs are full ( Have I missed one? )

I do get your point about the health issue but I also think those who are considerate enough to walk away away from a door way of cafe / office / outside eating area / playground etc entrance are actually being considerate & pretty much not causing you a health problem.

Essentially I think there are those who are considerate and those who are not & it takes many forms . Well just my opinion Grin

Sportslady44 · 13/03/2022 15:51

What looks horrible is when a shop worker goes put the front of the store for a smoke. They drag 9n it as quick as they can and then they go back inside the shop and breathe the smell all over the customers they are serving.

Don't they realise you can smell it.

Cyclists, you've forgotten cyclists!

MN loves to hate a cyclist!

Ratpatootie · 13/03/2022 17:02

It's at times when we see smokers doing this that I wish I had a handy, stinking, steaming pile of cow shit and put it next to them. I mean if you think your cigarettes smell is "nice" then I can have a smell I like. 😉

Non smoker here, but smokers were kicked outside to smoke in 2007.... leave them be if they're outside.

I dont get why people want to spend £12-£15 per packet of cigarettes rest makes them stink and reduce their health and life span 🤷‍♂️ but that's their choice to make

AlwaysLatte · 13/11/2022 19:00
