Why do people insist on smoking in doorways!?

If you want to go into a shop or a pub why is it acceptable to get blasted in the face with second hand smoke?

You go to a CHILDREN’S play park where you'll find groups of parents smoking....
School gates....

I mean Really!!!!

Why isn't smoking banned in outdoor public places yet!?

It's crazy.

Because they enjoy it. What function does drinking alcohol serve? Or eating chocolate? Or hundreds of other things people do for pleasure?

It's not smokers that are your problem, it's arseholes (and some non-smokers are arseholes too, shockingly).

I'm a relatively light smoker but absolutely would not smoke in or near a play park, or anywhere around children (I don't have my own). If I'm outside a pub and people are eating nearby I'll get up and walk away to smoke. I don't smoke in shop or supermarket doorways, I don't smoke walking down the street. Thankfully I don't have much cause to visit hospitals, but I wouldn't smoke right outside one.

I also don't smoke inside my own house because sometimes I have guests who don't smoke and I appreciate that it's grim for them.

I pay just as much tax as the next person (more, if you consider the tax for my cigarettes) but in my nearly 40 years so far as a childless, self-sufficient healthy adult have taken very little out of the system in return.

Why don’t you ask them about your decision to smoke instead?
err because i dont need to lol , i smoke and thats that , im sure they would prefer me to give up , but im not anywhere near wanting to , im sure they prefer it to seeing me having an eating addiction or an alcohol one , or being addicted to herioin or coke , but then then im getting the impression that a lot of posters on here label smokers on a parr with that

I've always loved pipe and cigar smoke. Pipe because my late FIL who we all adored smoked one. Cigars I just do for some reason. I can't recall the last time I saw someone smoke. They're about £12 a packet now aren't they?

Living rurally when I visit a city the car fumes bother me more than the odd whiff of a cigarette

Sorry. I smoke in the doorway if its raining or cold. But I never smoke in public during the day.

I agree OP. It’s grim and the smoke always gets sucked into the building of wherever they’re stood outside.

Seeing Young people smoking today just depresses me. Same with vaping. Gross habits.

People eating chocolate or drinking alcohol does not have the by product of toxic, dirty second hand fumes being blown into the air directly around people who choose not to smoke.

Yes, smoking in doorways is offensive because as soon as the door opens, the smoke comes into the premises and because anybody entering the premises is forced to walk through a tunnel of smoke.

I do blame the buildings owner (pub, hospital, shop etc) as they need to regulate what goes on immediately around their premises.

Besides - if smokers don't give a shit about their own health, their unlikely to give a shit about anybody else's.

Pressed post too soon. I had to bring my newborn twins from the special care unit to the car through the cloud of smoke. People are self absorbed and oblivious how their actions impact others.

Must have been a while ago, smoking has been banned on the majority of hospital sites for years now. And all hospitals had to implement a no smoking anywhere on the premises (indoor or out) in April 2020.
