Why do people insist on smoking in doorways!?

If you want to go into a shop or a pub why is it acceptable to get blasted in the face with second hand smoke?

You go to a CHILDREN’S play park where you'll find groups of parents smoking....
School gates....

I mean Really!!!!

Why isn't smoking banned in outdoor public places yet!?

It's crazy.

It's such an antisocial thing to do now even though it's perfectly legal.
Banned inside so obviously go outside, but no because non smokers are outside.
It's not a bad thing that the rates of smoking are coming down but demonising a slight waft of second hand smoke is daft.

I don't know OP but it drives me mad.

There's a mum at DC's school who always smokes at pick up and drop off, even when there are literally hundreds of kids around, she hangs about smoking by the bottleneck into the school. Why? Why can't you smoke elsewhere?! Why where everyone has to walk through it?

I imagine she is either oblivious or doesn't GAF.

I mean, the smoking ban killed the big bingo halls and how many people would come in.

So many pubs have closed.

And so much is taken in tax off the sale of cigarettes. Who’s going to make up this shortfall in tax?

I don’t tend to find people being massively antisocial with fags. Plus we don’t know what stresses are going on in peoples lives. Plus in this day and age, if you say the wrong thing to the wrong person your likely going to get an earful of abuse or a beating.

Tell you what, rather than whinge behind a computer screen, you go and start approaching these smokers and let us know how you get on.

You're never going to get everyone in the world to be considerate to each other at all times.
Some things just have to be lived with. Space has to be shared and sometimes it's not pleasant.

The OP isn’t saying not to smoke at all. They’re saying not to smoke in places with heavy footfall like shop doorways or in places with children like playparks. It’s really not that much of an ask.

I hate smoking with a vengeance, but quit with the COVID excuse!!

If pubs etc don't want people sheltering on doorways to smoke, they need to put up signs and police if!

I know many smokers, actually the vast majority are now vapers, but all are/were as considerate as possible.
It's never enough though.
Smoke travels, it stinks, its outside as it now can't be inside, but other than you finding it gross, it won't cause you a problem.
For the first time in 30 years I'm almost smoke free and have always done my best to keep it away from others.

Today I had to go into a pub briefly.
(Don't drink out so it's rare)

On my way out

The landlady is standing literally back against the door - chuffing her head off - she gingerly stepped to the side as I walked by in very close proximity. Why is that fair?

There was a huge car park surrounding said pub, as well as a garden area with several beaches.

Why oh why are you standing against the entrance/exit?

A pub labelled family friendly and plenty of children going in with there families.

Are you one of those people who describe overweight people as 'stuffing their faces', 'troughing food', 'shovelling it in'?

Look, most people think smoking is a filthy addiction and it stinks (even most smokers), but the drama llama-ing over breathing in a tiny bit of secondhand smoke is ridiculous.

Not all smokers are inconsiderate but some are. Just like non smokers really.

How is this hard?

Smoking is a vile, death-causing, anti-social habit.

No-one should be proud to do it and certainly shouldn't do it anywhere where children may be.
