Hate my new flooring which costs me £3.5k

I dont know what I want from this post . I chose the flooring from sample and now its laid in 70 percent of the floor. It looks fine at night with lights on but looks greenish tone in the morning. I am so upset with myself not making the right choice . it is LVT. Fitter is coming on Monday to finish the job. Still got £1700 flooring left in garage which can be returned.
I am thinking of just cut losses and return the rest of it then I thought I ll keep it for couple of years and then change it. I cant make a choice and on top of it have not discussed with hubby yet . please help me how can i make a decision as I am all over the place with my emotions.

Can't see a green tinge but anyway why was it so expensive? We paid about 500 for the whole house
Bloody hell you did well there I paid £165 Inc fitting just for my small porch
Mandyjack · 13/03/2022 20:33

@bigyellowTpot

It looks fine in your photos can't see any green tint but why has it cost £3.5k that seems ridiculously expensive unless you've got a massive house and have had it in every room. is it laminate or solid wood?
Isn't LVT a type of vinyl?
blueshoes · 13/03/2022 20:38

@Hmm1234

Doesn’t look green but definitely doesn’t look worth 3k more like £500

You paid £500 including fitting to have your whole house done with LVT?

Of course you didn't! Unless your entire house is a one bedroom bedsit (and even then I highly doubt it)

OP - the floor is lovely. it's your magnolia walls that are the issue. You need either white or a dark navy for the contrast.

Although I see that possibly the sample you picked isn't even what's been laid in which case straight on the phone tomorrow morning to complain!

roastedsaltedpeanut · 13/03/2022 20:52

Not a big fan of the floor but thats because I can no longer tolerate anything grey. I actively dislike grey nowadays.
Having said that, it’s not a huge issue. If you have a few thousand pounds spare by all means change it. Make yourself happy!

Otherwise there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Does this grey have cold/warm undertone? Dress the wall/furniture according to the tone and everything will fall into place. In my experience rugs, especially hand made ones, can do wonders to a room (handmade Persian rugs are the best because they retain their value. Home insurance will even replace it if damaged. Machine made rugs on the other hand are worthless.)
Have fund and good luck

Nasty!! Are you an expert on flooring - especially one that you can only see in a small photo???

I've had Amtico on my bathroom floor for around 17 years and it's fabulous. Looks every bit as good as the day it went down. I have ceramic tiles on the other bathroom floors and they are cold underfoot, whereas the Amtico isn't. Expensive but well worth it.

LouiseBelchersBunnyEars · 13/03/2022 20:53

@DonaPatrizia

It looks fine. Get over yourself, you’re not in Ukraine.
Oh here we go 🙄
millytint44 · 13/03/2022 21:05

high quality problem. Seriously.

freesoul12 · 13/03/2022 21:08

Thank you all for your lovely suggestions. I must admit I cried over this yesterday while I was having my morning tea and staring at newly laid greenish floor.
But I dont feel like that anymore but still disappointed. If I would not have posted here , I would be still feeling the same . I am glad I am part of mumsnet community.

I know World is dealing with big problems.

I recently bought this house and this is my World and I am trying to make it homely as much as I can . Kitchen /Diner flooring is important to me where I will be spending most of my time like we all do , if it was laid in bedrooms etc , I might not be that upset.

What I have decided so far , to return the rest of the flooring and put something else probably the same carpet as stairs in Hallway with big mat well. I don't like carpets in hallways but not sure what other choice I have as I dont want to have three or four different types of flooring.
Part of me also thinks , laid rest of the flooring as it is and cover it with rugs and green plants . As finding other sorts of flooring just to go with this flooring will be another wastage of money.

I can still save £1800 - £1900 including fitting if I return rest of the flooring.

Its tough decision which I have to made it by tomorrow as this situation will have an impact on fitter. He has taken up this job . He kindly agreed to give me a day to sort it out and wants to know for certain by tomorrow evening. I dont blame him at all . I have paid him so far for the fitting he has done.

Oh man, i bought a house for 400k which i bloody hate and wish i can move out of right now!
P.S. i like your flooring xx

TatianaBis · 13/03/2022 21:25

It’s only greenish in certain lights. The photos you’ve taken of it with the wall, it doesn’t look greenish at all. Does it really matter?

It seems to me more of a waste of money to not go through with it now and put down piecemeal flooring instead that’s not really appropriate - like carpet in a hall.

I put down travertine tiles in our hall about 20 years ago and - that was £3000 just for the hall. At first i was really worried it looked stripey (to do with the grain), but I got used to it very quickly.

Clarabe1 · 13/03/2022 21:31

I can’t see the greenish tinge? Probably the paint on the walls casting a hue?

Laniania · 13/03/2022 21:31

It looks fine. Get over yourself, you’re not in Ukraine.

Why bother coming on here to post that, why not find some random people to scream at in the street? Makes about as much sense.

ParisLondonTokyoSlough · 13/03/2022 21:36

I wouldn’t put carpet in the hallway- you’ll regret that decision

Sickoffamilydrama · 13/03/2022 21:45

It looks lovely, is stock with it and have the rest laid. We have piecemeal flooring and it really bugs me, 5 different types of flooring downstairs when there isn't even 5 rooms!

I love LVT I've had hard wood, laminate, carpet, tiles and even marble ( in my childhood home) and the best flooring for being hard wearing but also good if you dropped anything is LVT, we had it in our last house.

The washing machine leaked whilst we were away and once it has dried out you couldn't see anything you wouldn't get away with that with laminate or wood.

Unfortunately flooring is expensive and the difficulty is if you do try to cut costs you usually end up having to replace it earlier (learnt this from bitter experience).

Cerealnamechangerer · 13/03/2022 21:46

Id just get him to lay the rest of the floor and repaint the walls.

Tatapie · 13/03/2022 21:46

I would stick with what you've bought, use runners in hallway over the top. It will be fine in the long run I think.

I actually like the floor. It’s the wall colour for me. Once that’s white, the room will have a brighter fresher feel.
bluebell34567 · 13/03/2022 22:12

nice flooring. i would have the rest done, too.
you will get used to it.
i wouldnt create any more hassle about it.

Tigger1895 · 13/03/2022 22:22

Light is a massive issue. I have a counter top that I loved for 2 day until the sun hit it and then every cup mark became obvious. 3 years later I absolutely hate it. To change it I’d damage walls so I’m constantly cleaning it whilst cursing words that would have my mother washing my mouth out.

inappropriateraspberry · 14/03/2022 07:51

Don't forget putting your furniture back in on top will change the look. It won't be such a vast expanse and there will be contrasts against it.

lovescaca · 14/03/2022 08:04

I think it's lovely, but I had LVT and it all started to pop and crack after 2yrs. Just replaced it with normal laminate. Much prefer it now

OperationDog · 14/03/2022 08:16

Good quality LVT, professionally laid, does not pop and crack after twenty years, never mind two.

JMRichardson · 14/03/2022 08:34

I think it looks really nice. A green-ish tinge in a certain light will be accentuated if there is green elsewhere in the room - don't know if that's the case.

FantasticFebruary · 14/03/2022 08:35

@Fluffmum

I dunno what lvt is?
Well why not read the thread, it's been explained enough times.
