Found a black hair grip …

Wingingthis · 11/03/2022 10:20

DH is at work, I’m in the middle of a deep clean. Whilst I was hoovering I found in the corner of the bedroom, kind of camouflaged into the carpet a black hair grip/Bobby pin whatever they’re called.
I’m blonde and have always been blonde, my kids are toddlers so do not use hair grips. No one else has been in our bedroom that would explain it.
I’ve also been away all week with the kids.

Aibu to be suspicious??? I’m also pregnant so know I don’t think rationally sometimes atm

Could it have been walked in on a shoe? Or caught in some clothing?
Used as a tool other than a hair clip such as instead of a paperclip by dh?
Could one of the toddlers have found it in the street and brought it in?

I had a hire car regurgitate a spare key onto the driver's seat once. It must have been bounced out of its crevice as I left the car. Fortunately nobody noticed.

But the fact that it's in the corner of the room really suggests that it's been there a while, not propelled there by wild sexual congress. Probably dislodged from the carpet and the skirting board gap.

Carryonmarion · 11/03/2022 11:41

If this is the only evidence YABU - could have come from a visitor
or previous resident. If this is part of a jigsaw of events, exchanges and other clues then we need to know more.

Zilla1 · 11/03/2022 11:43

@thecatsthecats Have you checked the Kirby customer complaints page to see if they have standards for grip retention during wild congress or whether there are limits beyond which it's the customer's responsibility?

BoldMove · 11/03/2022 11:45

Could the dc have found it somewhere, like the garden and brought it in. Its easy to think the worst and unless there's more to this for you to suspect then I wouldn't worry. A friend of mine found a receipt saying bunch flowers and bottle of wine that she hadn't seen. Turned out to be descriptions of the front of 2 cards which eventually came to light. She only had to look at the cost to realise but panicked until I pointed this out. Bobby pins can get stuck down the edges of the carpet and gradually work their way out.

TheSoapyFrog · 11/03/2022 11:49

I'm pretty sure they are associated with some sort of sorcery. I found one recently and I haven't used them in about 10-15 years. I've lived here for 3 years and put all the carpets and flooring down. My 7 year old sons certainly don't use them.
I'm guessing they're like hair bands where you put them down and they fall into a wormhole or something. I've bought 2 packs of 50 hairbands since I moved here and how many do I have left? 8.

oakleaffy · 11/03/2022 11:50

@Littlebutload

Is from someone who lived in the house before you?
This was my thought. I have found old hair grip previously under skirting board gap in the bedroom- definitely from a previous occupant.

Of course, if in middle of room, you are right to 🤔 Query it.

Thumpkin · 11/03/2022 11:52

Not enough info to know. When was the carpet laid and has anyone at all been into the room since it was put down? Builder, estate agent, landlord, relative etc etc?

TheReddestJohansson · 11/03/2022 11:52

You could walk into any house, any time and no matter who lives there you will find one of those somewhere.

Has something else happened to make you feel so suspicious?

TeeBee · 11/03/2022 11:53

Lord, I find t-shirts, pants, socks that don't appear to belong to any of the people in my house (all male except me), I certainly wouldn't jump to conclusions about a hairgrip.

AgnesNaismith · 11/03/2022 11:53

They can also come in on magnets - have often found one stuck to a front of bag fastening.

SafferUpNorth · 11/03/2022 11:53

Unless you have other reasons to be suspicious, I'd ignore. As others have said, these little buggers seem to appear/disappear at random! Could have been there from a previous occupant, carried in on the soles of shoes, whatever.

TheReddestJohansson · 11/03/2022 11:53

@LampLighter414

Sounds like it could have fallen out during a sexual encounter in the bedroom to me
Get a f**king life.
BloodyN0rah · 11/03/2022 11:53

Probably nothing unless you have any other reasons to be suspicious? Did he wash the sheets just before your return?
If you've got other reasons to doubt him then I'd put it back and find it again when he's there to see how he reacts

8! How did you manage to hang on to so many of them, please tell me your secrets. I can never find a single one when I need one - even though I know I've bought hundreds over the years
Flyinggeese1234 · 11/03/2022 11:57

@TheReddestJohansson it was so obviously tongue in cheek!

CarltonPeach · 11/03/2022 11:58

My idiot Ddog just has to bring something home from her walks… anything will do!! I find all manner of bizarre items in the house, her bed, her crate. Other peoples hair bobbles, combs, slides, pins, we’ve had the lot. Do you reason to suspect your DH?

Booboo24 · 11/03/2022 11:58

I wouldn't give this a second thought, I'm trying to find the owner of a medium black hoodie that's appeared in my washing! None of the kids know who it belongs to!! I domt live with my partner but its nit his either....Anyway, it's warm and cosy so I've claimed it for lounging around in over my pj's!!! Honestly strange things do appear from time to time, but a Bobby pin wouldn't alarm me at all

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/03/2022 11:59

Has something else happened to make you feel so suspicious?

Yes. You could walk into a monastery of completely bald monks and find one of these somewhere.

I had no idea till today I had such strong feelings on the ubiquity of hair grips.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 11/03/2022 11:59

Mine get everywhere and I don't even use them that often and I find them in the most random of places.

Pipsquiggle · 11/03/2022 12:00

Possible things to consider:

Have you ever cleaned that exact spot before?
Do you have a cleaner with dark hair?
Did the previous owner have dark hair?
Did the previous owner have DC with dark hair?
Did the previous owner have a cleaner with dark hair?

Regularsizedrudy · 11/03/2022 12:03

It’s probably mine

Spudlet · 11/03/2022 12:05

I had dozens of the bloody things at one stage, and have never thrown them away, and yet when I need one then only ones I can ever find are ones that have been opened too far and now no longer grip. I suspect they are the sacrificial lambs sent out by the kirby grip colony that has clearly set up home under the floorboards, like metallic borrowers.

I bet the bendy little bastards have had all the odd socks as well. To use as little beds. And the spare sellotape.

DancingBarefootOnIce · 11/03/2022 12:05

On its own it’s nothing. If you come across some other things or have a history then maybe then it will mean something.

Those things can be walked into the house etc.

SpeckledlyHen · 11/03/2022 12:06

I wouldn't jump to too many conclusions if I had lived in the house a long time and had not recently had the carpets replaced. I had my hair put up once, 11 years ago and house is pretty spotless but I find bloody hair grips all the time. I have no idea where they come from. It is most bizarre!
